Uff the BU is insane. There's even a whole webtoon that REALLY goes deep into it. But it's a whole storyline that runs through their mvs that's a bit tragic but it's soooo good.
I'm new to BTS too, and I really agree with you about how their lyrics can be read and felt with several meanings. They really grew on me, and several songs from their beginnings climbed their way to my everyday life. I especially like Am I Wrong, Not Today and Bapsae. Oh and RM's album is a jewel, so I'd recommend to give it a try ^^
One of the things I love about BTS is all the layers. One could just feel the song, or interpret the lyrics that makes sense to you. And then there is the Bangtan Universe (BU). The first BTS era (2013-2014) is the School Trilogy (3 albums: 2 Cool 4 Skool, O R U L8?, Dark & Wild). The song, Run, is from the second era called The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, a.k.a. HYYH, (3 albums: HYYH part 1 and 2, Young Forever). This second era was the introduction of the BU. The BU continues through Map of the Soul: 7 album (released Feb. 2020). The BU is the BTS members in an alternative universe, where their characters are struggling to make their way in the world--including abuse, mental health, murder. To understand the storyline, one needs to watch the MVs (including Japanese versions), the short films, read the notes, and read the webtoon. and more. During Wings era it is helpful to read Damien by Hermann Hesse and become familiar with Jungian psychology/philosophy. The BU is not for everyone. You can still enjoy the videos, though you may notice a glass lantern keeps popping up in scenes, or that Suga enjoys fire a bit too much and Jimin needs to stay away from water, and what is up with J-Hope and Snickers candy bars?

You're right about the home cam video style, bc that's what they were going for. I won't go in detail. But in this storyline universe, this video is showing past and present of the characters. They're alone now and missing the old moments when they were all together and happy. That's why one's in hospital, one lives in a trailer, one is drowning 😂 etc
I would like to recommend “Let me Know” from this era, it’s my favorite BTS song, the live performance of it gives me such chills, it’s such a pretty song, with gorgeous vocals! It doesn’t have a music video because it’s a side track so i really recommend the live stage (it has english lyrics)!
I'm trying to think of other BTS songs that you haven't reacted to yet that you would like, in addition to ones already mentioned in the comments: I'm Fine (Suga's verse is fire!), Not Today, Agust D by Agust D (aka Suga), Daechwita by Agust D, Joke by RM, Dionysus, Arson by J-Hope, More by J-Hope all come to mind. Not all of these have music videos, but there are lyric videos.
You can take the meaning as you want. That's the good thing with music in general, you absorb and interpret it they way it helps you. They always have big production on their videos, but this particular era is especially amazing. Young Forever MV is gorgeous too and very simple. I also love the song, it's an anthem. Butter is a fluff piece on of the three English songs not written by them, so it doesn't represent what they do at all. And I don't really think they will do something like it again. They treasure their artistry too much. 🔥💜🤟
Actually I will respectfully disagree about their English song don’t represent them. While they didn’t write them (except for the rap part in Butter) the purpose for the songs represents them 100%. While they have always been about talking about their own stories but they also about uplifting. When they were given those song it was a time people needed to be uplifting, to have something to be happy about, and/or dance to. Also PTD actually had a lot of lines that have been similarly said over the years (Ed Sheeran did his research). Sometimes we don’t need to to tell “our” stories, sometimes we need to show other peoples stories. Sometimes doing something out of their norm is good. (It isn’t like BTS didn’t get to decided if they wanted the songs or not. BTS choose the songs because that is what they felt they needed and we needed) They talked about the English songs were their ways to cope with what was going on and to help others cope.
The BU is a crazy rabbit hole but so interesting. You don’t have to officially react to it, but if you’re curious, xCeleste has a video that does a great job of summarizing it so you don’t have to explore all of the various media. The MVs of the BU are worth reacting to tho!
