Great series Tim. And of course we are not just sticking around to see Skylar - promise and those are not crossed fingers ( honest!)

Guranteed inclusion of a disgruntled spaniel from now on.

Tim, Hope you had a happier experience than I did at Ardfern. As a total newbie, more than one staff member there went out of their way to make me feel small when I dropped in for a night on my delivery trip with a paid skipper on board.

tbh we have had pretty decent experiences there, from the staff. There is a lot of rich people going through that place on a regular basis, everyone we have met has been lovely but I can imagine there is potential for some snobbery at times from various sides. TBH I am not a big fan of marinas in general, love the area but don't want to spend a moment longer than neccessary on a pontoon.

@joandtim My thoughts exactly! The previous elderly owners of my boat almost exclusively anchored and I intend to do the same as far as possible.

Nice video. You might want to consider the way you have rigged your reefing lines. It is desirable to get the sail as flat as possible (up wind point of sail) and you cannot do that with the current set up. Just google it for info. Good luck.

Yeah we know its not set up right now, but was quite far into the season before we realise. I have it set up like the previous owner in the video or at least I think I do. When I eventually realise it and set it up properly, line goes from the end of the boom up to the sail then down to the boom I realised that the reefing lines aren't long enough so still can't fully set it up right. I am not sure if I still have it wrong or if the previous owner had it wrong and made the lines to fit but either way I think some new reefing lines are in my future. Cheers for the tip though

Must admit I was considering stopping the video half way through,, reason, was beginning to think it was more like an influencer s makeup video because the lens pointing at your face for most of it. Is it about sailing or vanity?
    Also it's Ardfern, not Ardvern!
Thirdly you need to raise that boom at the mast fitting so it sits higher even when the mainsheet is hauled in tight, or some day it is going to take your head off.

Mean spirited and totally without merit

Its about telling the story of my first solo trip on hat trick which does necessitate me telling the story. If the video was just endless shots of scenery it would probably get pretty boring and people would complain that I wasn't giving enough context as to what is going on. That being said when editing these videos I need to strike a balance between the talking (telling the story) and the scenery elements, clearly I missed the mark for you on this one but these are my personal memories of my trip. I make these videos more for my benefit than yours as when I am stuck for months of the year working in order to be able to afford to do this, editing and watching these lets me reminisce on my sailing adventures and are a record for the future when I completely lose my mind. We have never recieved a penny from anywhere, not youtube, sponsors, viewers. We have put thousands of hours of work into these videos, thousands of pounds into equipment and yet we give them to you freely, I think you should probably forgive us a little vanity, particularly given these videos are about us, so vanity is kind of baked in.
I make no bones about my lack of ability to pronounce place names, particularly as everything I say is off the cuff and unscripted so I don't have any mechanism for checking my pronunciations on the fly. If you stick around for the next video you are going to lose you mind over me trying to pronounce the Sound of Luing 😂
Finally on the boom, I agree its in a bad place, one of the thing I miss from salty, whose boom was completely out of the way. Unfortunately though the goose neck on the etap30 is in a fixed position and so can't be raised and if it was the main wouldn't fit properly as it already goes all the way to the top of mast. Yes its a pain but you need to direct your concerns to the designers at etap, who, given its been about 40 years since they designed this are probably mostly dead by now.
