You can't revive your characters. There is one person who is supposed to die and that is the Sheriffs partner so you kill the zombie version of him. All other characters you have to keep alive yourself. You build them a tower inside your yard and then they will be safe and shoot zombies for you. You will have to start the game over if the old man from the tutorial dies as you have to protect him when he shows you the town.
