- "Sonic Had a Rough Transition to 3D" "Sonic 06 ruined the franchise" we've all heard it before, but where did the intense and unending anger of Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) come from? Well I delved deep into old TH-cam to attempt to find an answer to this age old mystery.

I’m 26 and the first sonic 06 review I remember was from “game dude”. I didn’t really know anything about sonic back then and I thought 06 just looked like SA1 but better graphics.
Really happy to see this finally come to fruition. It's really solid and I'm looking forward to a certain sequence toward the end :P Nice job using the one dude's picture as a reaction before he comes up.
Are we really at the point where Sonic fans are livid that the internet at large is calling a broken, unfinished game bad
I almost wonder if the "06 reviews are bad" subculture is because we're at a point in the nostalgia cycle where people are sincerely trying to say "ACKshually 06 is good because the writing makes up for clipping through the floor"
That aside that outro music is glorious, I'd definitely watch him
I mean, there were always people around who said that 06 had potential despite its flaws, including myself. This isn't some recent thing and it's not exclusive to Sonic. If the internet has taught me anything, it's that no matter how bad something is, it will always have defenders or a cult following, like the DCEU.
There are always those fanboys who are more obsessed with the idea of something rather than the thing itself. And Sonic 06 despite its flaws, vaguely resembles the Adventure Era that made Sonic as popular as he is today. And given SEGA's track record of churning out mediocrity throughout the 2010's, I guess many fans are willing to except anything made with even a fraction of thought put into it. Even if it's a broken shell of itself.
Devs of Sonic Mania made Penny's Big Breakaway, and you can easily fall through the floor in that game as well, yet classic Sonic fans are still calling it amazing, so it's not a nostalgia thing. If you like everything else about the game a few bugs won't ruin it for you, or Fallout New Vegas wouldn't be a classic.

not just that, it was possessed by the tails doll, which went on to haunt him a couple other times since.
We have reached the point where reviews of a game are analysied
So crazy how Sonic Heroes was once seen as *The* Mistake of the franchise and that everyone had full hope for Sonic 06 to fix Sonic's image. Hoo boy, did they eat their words. Hurts too, as Sonic Heroes was and still is one of my favourite games.

I really feel like the rise of ironic review channels like Game Grumps were the culprits of this, with reviews from SomeCallMeJohnny and ESPECIALLY The Completionist's review helped push it further.
Jirard's original Sonic 06 review was riddled with all of the evil counterparts and destroy the game tropes and quickly became one of his most successful videos before the original reviews were taken down.

If Sonic 06 just had like a year more of development, it could have been great. The proof of this is with Project 06 (or whatever it’s called)

Not discrediting P-06 or anything but the game was made from the ground up in unreal engine with much better code that's way easier to patch bugs, original Sonic 06 wishes it had something similar the game was a mess from start I doubt 1 year would make a difference

It just hilarious to think that know more people really enjoyed this game. Especially thinking that no ALL people look at reviews and just play and have fun in Sonic 06 in XBOX 360 era without pretending to be big haters...
Because those people are not online talking about Sonic anymore. Back in 2006 most mainstream gamers discussed new Sonic games.
In 2024, Sonic games are not talked about outside the internet Sonic community. The Sonic media/movies surpasses and carries the franchise.
This filters out most gamers and leaves people that like Sonic 06. Just like the niche group of gamers that like Bubsy games on the internet

If only the reviewers of Sonic 06 that originally hated Sonic Heroes knew of both 06 and later games. If i had a time machine and copies of Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric and Sonic Forces as well as thousands of newer consoles so they can appreciate the older games especially Sonic Heroes.

Those Reviewers are not for snowflakes, the woke, or whatever buzzword the LGBT goes by. That was pre modern censorship era.
The problem with Sonic 06 is that its just a terrible sign of corporate greed. Sega rushed the game because they knew it would sell well. Instead of patching the game they just released paid DLC for hard mode. Taking further advantage lf customers.
Few companies that pulled a stunt like this get a pass. And Sega certainly does not get a pass either. They also rushed out Sonic 1 Genesis for GBA the same year to take further advantage of customers.
Sega is a terrible company run by terrible, greedy people. But Sega has been like this since the 1990s and Saturn days. There is no reason to shill for Sonic 06 and Sega's greedy selfish will to take advantage of their own loyal customers is terrible.
Sega just rushed out a low budget Sonic Mania port for mobile. Just to completely abuse customers. Sonic 06 deserved the negative reaction: and Sega in general for their disgusting anti-consumer practices

As long as you know what you're getting into, it can be some dumb fun despite all of the issues
It’s an okay game. Most of the worst bugs are something you won’t find unless you actively go looking for them. The story is also one of the best in the series.

Cyberpunk 2077 was nowhere as bad as Sonic 06. Yet that game was hit with numerous lawsuits just for its poor quality and incomplete nature.
In Sonic 06's case, less people looked forward to the game than Cyberpunk. Else Sega would of also been sued for the state of the GBA Sonic 1 port.
But CDPR actually tried to patch Cyberpunk and they even improved the game. Sega won't patch their buggy, poorly programmed rushed games unless hit with a lawsuit. And thats what should of happened to Sega in 2006.
06 and Genesis did not brick consoles. Have you seen C2077 on a PS4 at launch? Things you're saying are simply not true.
Sonic 06 was always defended by hardcore Sonic fanboys. That was terrible and insulting look at the Sonic community back in 2006. But most people buying videogames are not part of some niche Sonic internet community.
