Hi Eileen! Thanks for your comment! Yes, I remember you, of course, but that's nice that you gave me some clues, just in case. I kept the shot with your tag in one of the shot when we mess up with the ink, hoping you would be happy to see it. ;)
That was really nice to meet you in Chicago! I am happy you will be in Porto too. I will as well so I am looking forward to meeting you again! 😝

One of my favorite urban sketchers and one I love to follow. Here's a link to more of his work on Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/chngkiahkiean/

Hi there, I'm a huge fan of KK's work. Could you please tell me what he uses for the rub he applies with his brush after the initial line work has been done? Thank you :)

Hi @SonnyB did you find your answer yet?

Hi @darmakiel, I didn't im afraid. I've tried soaking ink into a sponge and using a dry brush to apply it but it doesn't quite achieve the same range of intensity as KK's.

Thanks for replying! Do you know what type of wood he uses? Or perhaps you could recommend something? I'm just using some random wood found in the park but it's not very soft.

      Hey, no worries!
In this video around 2:15 I think he says water jasmine is the type of wood he uses. I use anything around really and experiment. Twigs from outside, the end of old paint brushes, i've uses various wooden clay tools as well.
Also these 2 videos you can see how his sticks are prepared:

      th-cam.com/video/v-bEXhnR36g/w-d-xo.html
I also found this link quite helpful:
      www.parkablogs.com/content/art-tools-of-chng-kiah-kiean
He only mentions different types of wood (soft or hard) but you can see what paints and inks he uses, his prefered colour palette etc
      Hope these help

Very nice filming - I love the B&W that reinforce the teacher's work. and your camera angles and transitions are really nice. could you elaborate on what is in the bottle that each one filled with Chinese ink? is it gaze? and for the other box is it a sponge and why? thank you and see you in Porto!

Hi! Thanks for your interest! The ink KK is using is the brand Saintograph but you can do that with any kind or China ink / India ink. 😊
