I helped my brother replace the fuel pump in his 2003 Jaguar XJ8, X308 series. The hardest part of the job is getting the fuel lines disconnected. There are a few other parts that are hard as well, mainly things that can cause damage to the vehicle.
Pump: JLM20756 ($385+ Failed in 60 days).
Stepped hose: NND 6070AB ($85+)
This process should work on most XJ series vehicles that have the fuel tank behind the rear seat and the pump in the tank. Cars from 1998 - 2003 for sure.

Hi Robert, let me start by saying thank you for posting the video loaded with great and accurate info on how to go about changing a fuel pump on the xj8. I only wish I would of seen your video prior to the one I watched. Unfortunately the other persons video led me to do the same thing you said happened to you and I damaged both the feeder and return line under the tank. Frustrated and somewhat nervous about trying to figure out what went wrong fortunately I ran into your video and again want to thank you for doing a superb job both explaining the procedure and more importantly pointing out the problem areas. Every problem area you pointed out is exactly what I encountered but since you had done such a detailed video explaining how to avoid those issues I was able to safe a lot of time and frustration. Anyway just wanted to share that with you and again hands down the best video out there on doing this job. Keep up the great videos, much appreciated Sir.

@@RobertDIY Just ran a fuel pressure test, Rob.
The Schrader value and rail were on the driver's side. Turns out, the spray was a water/fuel mix. So, I looked at the filler cap unit. It had water in the compartment. And, the filler cap wasn't loose.
Thought back a couple of days when I was last at the gas station. (The day before a heavy rain.) Apparently, the attendant didn't tighten the cap and I park on a slight incline.
Long story short, water got into the fuel tank.

Ended up draining the tank and bleeding the Schrader. Only cost me $100 labor, a bottle of Seafoam and a a few gallons of premium.
Had I taken it to the shop, it would have cost me much more.
Thank you Robert! Very informative! I have a 2001 xjr x308 platform and we have two fuel pumps! Second pump starts the car and then the first pump takes over then second goes on standby until needed at higher rpms! Im dreading the day i have to change mine...
I feel you. Didn't know how that second pump operates. So, if the primary pump fails, does the second pump take over or are you dead in the fuel?
Robert DIY if either pump fails your done. Neither pump will take over. Design flaw lol. Pump two dies car will not start just crank. Pump one fails car will crank and kinda start but when pump one is supposed to take over it will starve the car. If pump two fails you can jump the leads in the relay and it will start the car and run below 3k rpm.

As I have told you, Robert, I have watched both your XJ8 fuel pump videos and you are fantastic at explaining. But I have taken your three warnings to heart and have decided NOT to tackle the fuel lines. I am going to open up an access panel from above, as Jaguar and British Leyland SHOULD HAVE DONE, and replace it from there. In doing so I will eliminate the dastardly problem removing the fuel lines as well as bypassing the risks of damaging the wiring harness connection on the passenger side. And as a final reason for doing so, should the new pump fail in 3,000 miles like your brother's did, I will have my "easy to open" trap door waiting for a 15 minute replacement!!!

@@RobertDIY I'll let you know the end result. By placing a wet towel on top of the gas tank along with a thin sheet of aluminum, I will be shielding the tank and hoses from the sparks which should give me a 99.9% elimination of explosion, maybe also have a fan running there in the trunk as well. It might take some time to cut the panel out but it will definitely eliminate the practically impossible disconnection of the fuel lines and the risk of damaging the connector on the passenger side. Quite honestly, I cannot believe Jaguar didn't implement the trap door idea in the manufacturing process.
I have2 fuel tanks robots and the second one is behind the seat I have the that went out is under the car does this sepreat from the bottom one and the electric power coeds going to wire harness have pull and release leaver so is there 2 fuel tanks because I was told there is and on mine on the under nether tank I think saw were the pump is inside the trunk under the stereo
And that is for my primary tank the other tank I heard from the owner that it has never had the fuel tanks used also your over heating problems might be if you unplug the fan ther is a fuse right there for the fans
Can you tell me about me having the 2 tanks and fuel pumps what does it have a fuel pump in tank behind the seat I have aces to the tank and I replaced the relay and fuse no fuel pressure like you said I looked for the fuel filter and it said it was under the driver side back tire it's not

I got mine from the dealer. They keep them stocked because so many people are breaking them from the other BAD VIDEO posted on TH-cam.
