Pretty accurate - dev officially lists Rimworld and Factorio among others as inspiration - super cool guy committed to the game, who's taking feedback on everything, and streams to the community too 🙌🙌
@@Orcling Almost certainly. I haven't tried it, but having played SoS (the mod) I know it to be quite clunky and a bit unstable. That is not to say it's bad, just that Rimworld wasn't meant to do those things, so they're incredibly difficult to shoehorn in there. They've done a great job. A game like this, that incorporates those mechanics into their design from the beginning, has a much better chance of creating a more solid and likely more fun experience.
My roommate plays this game so much. On his first playthrough, he kept getting hit with pods full of baddies, so he built a room specifically for pods to land in for containment until he could figure out what was inside. He forgot about the room for a while, and came back to find that it was full of dead cats. He hadn't added life support or HVAC for that room so they all suffocated on arrival. I still give him crap about it from time to time.
I'm pretty sure this game started out as the Save Our Ship mod for RimWorld. Good to see it's become its own thing. Especially since Save Our Ship crashed my game to desktop last time I played it. [EDIT] Turns out it wasn't the Save Our Ship guys. They just had a very similar idea. That, or they stole the idea. There's a lot of discourse happening in the replies.
When I had that event happen, my paranoia went into overdrive and I built a special containment zone that was attached to the back of my ship by a single thin strand of scaffolding, and rigged to blow with a frankly irresponsible amount of plastic explosives. Then it hatched into...a normal human? AI me knew that humans do not hatch from eggs and this is sus af, but I also knew I had to obey the First Law and not kill him since he was technically a human. So I expanded the containment zone to be a nice little apartment that had Amazon drone delivery of food and clothing. I specifically engineered it so that the human crew couldn't get there, only the drones with thrusters, because I wasn't sure what the deal was. I wasn't sure if he had some infectious disease, or was a space vampire, or The Thing, or what. Then about three or four in game days later he exploded into a swarm of aliens, and I just laughed and detonated the C42.
The narrative is always great. One of the few TH-camrs I will always like before even seeing the video because I know it's right up my alley. ambiguousamphibian and killianexperience are the staples of what I believe TH-cam should be at it's very essence, and I am grateful they exist despite the algorithm.
As a non-Floridian American, we all (including most Floridians I know as well) deeply wish that Florida was flying away from us at near-lightspeed. I actually really love the mix of Rimworld and space exploration, the dev really nailed a lot of what made Rimworld great. And the touch that you are explained as being a human uploaded into an AI to run the ship finally makes the colony management as an omniscient overseer genuinely make sense within the world of the game. It's brilliant, love it Would love to see more adventures and explorations from AA in the game, especially as mods and updates come out!
I would say this reminds me of Space haven with a rimworld aesthetics + the space mod + Save our ship. (DId save our ship also have the space colonies? I can't remember it's been awhile.) Early access is always a downer because I have no self control and need to play until my dopamine is maxed. Full version may be awhile but I'll be waiting for my adventures in space with SPACE RANDY DUMPING TNT INTO MY BATHROOMS. Thanks for checking this out so I can add it to my list.
CHALLENGE SUGGESTION. Donnu how to submit ideas for challenges, buuut; Sea Ice in rimworld, but solo only, and you have to leave the planet. So basically Orange going to space. That, or a any solo colonist, on any land, on Losing Is Fun, and you still have to escape. Any colonist forced upon you, you have to get rid of. Personally I'd prefer it if this turned into a series, like sea ice or desert, but if you wanna just do a 10 min vid that's fine too.
Its actually nice that Rimworld touches on space just enough to wet your apatite for more only for them to release a new game that focuses on that and eventually even more.
The classic RimWorld scenario starts with your ship breaking up in orbit and you getting to the escape pods, right? Well, this is what happened to the people who _didn't_ get to the escape pods.
Mr. Amphibian I now have run into two people irl that watch your content. This amazes me based on the sheer fact that your content comes up that often in conversation, and the fact that I'm a borderline social recluse. Clearly you are doing something right!

Burning steel plates is totally legit. That's why iron rusts, after all - rust has less energy than metallic iron. There's actually quite a decent amount of energy to be gained from this - iron/air batteries might very well be the near future of grid electricity storage, being ridiculously simple and cheap with no requirement for rare materials. Of course, you should get (extremely pure) iron ore out of the process.
New Idea for a Rimworld chalange, start with zero in a Mountain, and build a Rocket to colonize new planets. (Like your underground mountain challenge combined with save our ship 2, for longer and very hard challenge. Maybe instead of terraforming mod with the Vegitable Garden Garden tools mod?)
Hey AA! Been loving your content and so glad to see you collaborating with other creators. Just one quick piece of feedback regarding this video, the amount of sound effects for this seem a little over done. Rest of the editing is indeed great! But felt like the thunks and thonks were a tad bit higher than usual.
Yeah. Those rocks can be really destructive. I had one playthrough end when a micro meteor swarm started pelting my ship and a little over half of them kept hitting the exact same square of space so they carved my ship in half.
This game looks really cool, your colony is on a space ship so you're mobile! That was the thing i hated about Rimworld, there's no incentive to travel or move your base to a new area... Well, there is, you can move to a warmer climate or closer to other colonies, but moving is an INSANE process and if your colony is fairly well established, you'll have to deal with a wave of mental breaks as everyone goes "This colony sucks compared to what we're used to :( " lol, with this game your colony itself is mobile! That's fun!
So IT's Rimworld Save Our Ship (A Mod that allows you to play Rimworld on a ship) but as a game that doesn't require you to start as 3-5 dirty people in a cabin in a temperate forest raising cattle
