  • Why is top Chinese talent leaving the United States? In a discussion moderated by Yangyang Cheng, David Zweig discusses U.S.-China scientific collaboration and rivalry, focusing on the outflow of top Chinese talent from the United States. His new book, The War for Chinese Talent in America: The Politics of Technology and Knowledge in Sino-U.S. Relations, examines China’s strategies to combat brain drain and U.S. efforts to restrict technology transfer to China.

Chinese laborers built US railways in most abhorrent conditions. Yet instead of being grateful, Americans specifically discriminate d against them, excluded them.

The collective West has lost their ability even to build good railways. 😁

Easier to blame foreigners than to fix real problems, it's a universal truth.
Tbh even china used to do that with mao, luckily they realised that doesn't make you any richer, and reformed themselves.
Not sure we'll see that with the west

That's a sign of West losing its talents, and slow down in its technology advancement.

    This is an important topic.
Need to find a way to teach the American public that immigrants are not something we should be scaring away but welcoming. The ability of US universities to bring in the best students from around the world is so important.
Countries like Japan struggle so much with aging populations.

When adversary is weaponizing humankind in a great number of creative ways, as consequence of opposite value system, the commonality is sliming down to thread thin and extinguishing.
The only way out is addressing the source of differences.

Why to draw one thousand talents from overseas becomes “War of talents to USA”? Before this Chinese policy of attracting talents, millions of student still study in USA, once war of talent raises, almost million of them migrated elsewhere. Who lost the most?

In Trade War, US is worry about how to protect its own market, while China is worry about how to venture into new markets.
In Brain War, US is worry about how to kick Chinese talents out of US, while China is trying to gether as many talents in China as possible, even from Global South.
In long run, we will see the difference.

US has leading edge in fundamental and scientific research at this moment, no doubt, but China is catching up fast. Arguably second in the world in terms of research papers and thesis published.
But no one discussed how to turn these technology advancement into "Commercial Products"? Silicon valley once was the center of converting Technology into Trade profits. But is it still the same case?

    • @merrick6484
      @merrick6484 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

The Speed of coverting "Technology" into "Commercialised Products" multipy by "Global Markets" = National Trading Power.
During this process, the supply chain has been established, overal employment increased, exports increased and Foreign Reserved Accumulated.
In the whole profits conversion process, one can argue that Business in China can do it more efficiently with less risk of failures.

From the past 2 decades, besides certain companies specialised in App Developments in Silicon Valley, most US companies will go to China to set up production lines (Supply Chains) for optimal Efficiency / Costs ratio.
Apple and Tesla are perfect examples.
