I came back after 4+ years and I think a lot of players will be returning at some point. It is by far the most complete mmo space sim (not counting EVE online as it’s not really a cockpit sim) and still so much to discover. I came back because starfield made me realise what I missed in all other games and that only Elite is able to offer. I played a lot of other games but in terms of space exploration and economy nothing from the competitors currently comes close to what elite has to offer imo.
Agreed, i think Elite is the best space simulation game in the means of Exploration even today..we just needed some right additions to the game in the right direction...i hope it will happen.
@@hugforbug Yep, but in all honesty I don’t think FDev are going to be the once to pull back vet players and new players, I’m pretty sure content creators and the community are likely going to be the ones doing the heavy lifting in terms of making elite a more active game again.
I dont see that potential in Fdev either..the content creators created all the content they can create, so i dont expect much from them also..but the community is strong and they are just waiting for a new chapter in Elite, they will turn back to Elite when there is a reason to come back..
lol a space game you cant just land on planets and walk around this game has always been trash thanks for supporting unfinished games you are part of the downfall
@@SevenAcid Strange that I am walking on a planet then but anyways I just stated what I think of the game and why I like it I don’t need you to like it to enjoy the game though.
The first of those to leave Elite wasn't the players, it was FDev. For years they have chosen not to give it the resources that it needs to continue to grow which is why it is at its present state. In their latest financial report, they do say that it is one of FDev's "pillars" and that they will continue to support it. I do suspect that they will have to move to a new game engine. We can only wait and see how far they will go to make it better.
I also read that they will continue to support the game and I don't know whether to be happy or sad because if they think they support the game today and this is what they will continue, it means there is a bigger problem than we think. The solution process begins with realizing that there is a problem. If you think everything is fine, you cannot come up with a solution anyway.
@@hugforbugthey are just going to put it on life support without anymore updates in the future, that's the most likely outcome, since the ED business model is not generating income for FDev as a business.
The map is only 0.059% explored. This game just cant die yet. What we mostly need is more ships, somewhat easier missions atleast for beginners. More landable planets and more. This is a great game.
I agree, Elite is the best Space Simulation game..New ships, exobiology addition of fauna and some new exploration elements is the right path for Elite imo..
Just started two days ago after barely having touched the game.. didn't find the missions that difficult. What threw me off at the release of the game was all the keybinds.. managed it all in an hour this time and been doing missions ever since and I'm having a blast. Are you all saying it's too late for me to get into this game?
i discovered 6 totally new systems and there bodies today nice little payout from cartography for that little bundle and i only learnt how to scan a system 2 days ago after months of playing. so many systems...... so little time
@@underleft if you can't see / ignore / not interested in differences this does not mean they're absent. I like to investigate non-ecliptic orbits. This means it could be boom somewhere near hundred millions ago.
@underleft excalty lol..can u image someone explore 400 billion stars after 60 years later and realize there is nothing special about it? All those 60 years he would get a great job, make good money, good family, so many more than just explore...empty 400 billion stars...for what lol?
Elite is great and has amazing potential Doesn’t matter how old it is iv bin playing this for almost a decade now it’s getting there all it needs is attention and a bigger team
Its all about money, bigger team, bigger attention, time & resource..im %100 sure there will be an investment to Elite since its a legend and the brand is huge, so if you invest "1" you will get "2"..the only problem that "1" is more than 100M$ and 2-3 years of making if you want to make a good game..does Elite worth it? of course..
I just got it yesterday. Its 75% off till sept 26. Im enjoying it so far. Im learning the hard way but im learning how to play. Im starting to make some credits but theres always that one mission that looks simple but has a turn to it.
I just became an Elite Dangerous noob today! I always play Star Citizen but always was curious about this game. I'm actually enjoying myself learning, I think this game if given the proper chance it can be brought back to greatness! I hope Frontier will see how special this game is and would be a shame if they let it die. All that hard work can't be for nothing, C'mon Frontier, you can do it!
I just came back after a 2 years break, but on a fresh account. My feelings is that the main goal in Elite is to upgrade and get better ships, skills and discover the various activities the game has to offer. But once you complete these, there is not much left to do (for my personal experience). I don't think I will ever return to my first CMDR because I just can't progress anymore.
I also created a fresh account...trying to progress this account is out of the question for me, i cant to all that work all over again, just worked enough to get a asp explorer to go to the edge of the galaxy..07
This game is my home. I remember suffering from space madness just 10 jumps away from colonia, I remember making my first journey to Sagittarius A*, and I remember the first and only time I jumped into Beagle Point after months of constant jumping and frequent breaks. I’ll never give up on this game.
They killed it with Odyssey. I got into the game shortly before Odyssey came out. I thoroughly enjoyed it. But Odyssey made it clear they were going in a direction I didn't want to go in. Which meant resources weren't going to go towards fixing things I did want. So I quit playing shortly after Odyssey came out. Maybe someday someone will make a space sim that actually simulates space rather than Victorian era high seas or low-G fortnight.
* "But Odyssey made it clear they were going in a direction I didn't want to go in" , thats my main thought..Elite got into the wrong direction with Odyssey..huge amount of resources is spent to the onfoot gameplay which was a very risky choice..I dont say i was completly against it, they tried something but it didnt work..they should have stick with the working formula of Elite..the essence of Elite is Spaceships and Exploration..new ships, new places to visit, some changes with fun and exciting gameplay, some collectibles on the planets i mean a reason to land a random planet and a possibility to find some special things ; base building maybe, a new galaxy with a wormhole passage.. the community would have continued to play with such additions...we need some people on FD with a complete understanding of the Elite..that played Elite on C64, that played Elite II on Amiga..
Bingo. I love the game but I have not even touched odyssey. I really don’t care to play bunker looter simulator. If they were going to add space legs they should have gone the other way with it. I would rather ONLY be able to walk around inside of ships and nowhere else. Being able to board other player’s ships with hostile or entrepreneurial intent would be a much better gameplay loop than raid bunker #743. Such a waste.
Man I've been on this game since 2018 started out on Console migrated to PC... literally today 12th of September 2023 I bought my fleet carrier and I I am so proud of that all of the trade runs all of the hard work paid off this game is special and yeah it's old but there ain't many out there that hold a candle to it even though it doesn't get updated like others but as the name indicates its Elite over all others 07 Commanders.
Now would be a good time for FDev to develop and relaunch Elite Dangerous with a new games engine. I'd pay a £10 per month subscription (paid £120 annually) for a new Elite with improved graphics and immediate access to all paint jobs. I'd even raise that to £15 per month (paid £180 annually) if, in addition to the above perks, FDev included access to all ship kits too.
Engine isnt the problem. Its lack of new content. Atmospheric planets are reskinned sky on baren ones. Where are gas giants like they planed to do or earth like ones? They could have made SRV races not leave it to community. All kinds of stuff is there to be implemented but work being done is abysmally tiny.
Elite won't ever "die" in the traditional sense. I think what is most likely to happen is eventually FDEV will either kill it at some point, or release it into the wild and we'll get different versions depending on the server you're connected to. It's a shame though because even being 10 years old, it's still a unique experience and no other space sim can match the sound design (which is an odd thing to point out but it's huge for immersion).
Frontier just announced new ships coming and a new feature. I hope this brings back some of the community. I miss the high population days when contraband running was actually dangerous because players would hunt you. Hoping those days return.
I just started playing ED for the first time yesterday. The Horizons version. I have a Quest 2 and wanted to try it in VR. It's VERY COOL. There is a LOT to learn. I'm playing with an Xbox controller for now. I may get a HOTAS. It took me 10 minutes to land on the docking pad the first time I tried. Lame I know....but I'm slowly getting familiar with the controls. I'm not really sure what first steps I should take to make money. I don't want to get in over my head right away. I guess I will figure it all out in time.
Take your time, don't rush, the trip itself is the beauty of Elite..Exobiology is really amazing if you are a science lover, the variety is awesome..Core mining is really fun and profitable too..just try everyting litle bit and then you will know whats the best for you. Bon Voyage Commander.07
That is actually TTS..i thought about using my own voice for a very long time, tried a couple of times actually...the thing is i dont have an enthusiastic speaking style 😆, im kind of a slow speaker with lots of pauses..addition to that, English is not my Native Language, so..i still didnt find the courage to do that..😄
What this game need to come back from the disaster that was Odyssey is only a little bit of love from FDev (other than Thargoids story). The game has a solid foundation and graphics that are more than OK to go through another decade. A substantial update with QoL, new content/gameplay, new ships and more type of planets to land on (still dreaming) could bring back a lot of players. Gamers are looking for space game right now - FDev would be stupid to drop the ball on the amazing game that is ED.
The Odyssey caused such a big earthquake in Fdev..i assume there are lots of new faces that must understand what Elite is..then, they may make the right decisions and take initiative..
Used to play on PS4, had a great time with Elite, it's a fantastic space exploration game. Still miss it, maybe I'll dive back in for one last trip back to Colonia maybe?
If it gets to that point, I intend to be one of those "last thousand" players. I have near 3000 hours in Elite and remain very impressed by it. I've not participated in the Thargoid story (only a little in the very beginning) yet still find new things to do and learn. I appreciate your support for the game and wish there were an Elite supporter community (if there is please advise!) to offset some of the corrosive negativism that seems to prevail. I agree with your assessment of the economic realities attending the latter stages of a product life cycle. On the other hand, it would be great if FD could find some low cost ways to refresh aspects of the game that already have such a great foundation....exploration being one such. I've wondered if anti-pirate combat could be enhanced by providing a record of NPC pirates that have interdicted/destroyed a pilot and a means to track them down or at least for there to be future encounters with said pirate. A bit of a half-backed idea there. Glad for your support of the game. I wish voices loving the game were stronger and could be united to petition for more support from FD. THANKS
Well said, thanks for sharing your opinion, i agree with them all..actually its such a long subject that i will prepare a video for the Future of Elite , surely i will share the core communities opinions such as you.., thanks!O7
Answer to fdevs problem in supporting ED would be to open their source code for modders. Very cost effective and if they want they can have a mechanism in place where they have the power to approve or disapprove all the mod applications. This would imo breath new life into the game but even with this it will take a very long time to bring back a lot of players that left. One example is Star Wars Galaxies. That game is still running despite the game developer abandoning the game. The game community itself brought that game back. Same thing can happen to ED.
That makes a lot of sense. They should take a lesson (or two!) re Modding from what Bethesda allowed for Skyrim not to mention the only-just-released Starfield.
Modding must be considered seriously at the moment..it creates a lot of momentum for the games, which is really needed right now..there are lots of people willing to create value for ED and they deserve the chance..we saw what the community achieved in the past by using simple tools and how they fill the gaps..i really wish Fdev share this Enthusiasm..
Here is another theory... I heard a youtube 2 years ago say that the SJWs are in fdev and made their way to Elite. Maybe thats the reason why the game has been treated poorly because its impossible to put a social justice narrative in ED based on how its structure right now. It had a huge install base and maybe thats why ED is where it is today.
It's not 3000 per day. Steam charts tracks concurrent players not players per day. Assuming (maybe) an average play time of 1.5 hours per player and thats 48,000 players per day. On just Steam. You also then have to take into account that not everyone plays every day so the active player base is even wider than that.
I didnt know that, thanks for the info..i dont know the real number, the only fact is most of the Community is not happy with the state the game is in today and the numbers are declining..
The game released in 2014 but only came to Steam around 2016. A huge number of these players bought direct from Frontier and don't show on Steamdb. Then there's the Epic store, where a giveaway of the base game ended with 1 million extra copies out there. None of those people show on Steamdb either. The only thing Steamdb is useful for is comparing trends - long term averages, peaks, etc.
The best thing that could happen at this point is for Frontier to sell off the franchise to a smaller/up and coming development studio who can really focus on it. Frontier is a public quoted company and thus answers to its shareholders first, and they are not interested in Elite Dangerous compared with the other moneymaking IP, including the F1 management game. A smaller independent studio could focus on polishing the game and maybe releasing new ships etc as DLC as a way to generate revenue. You can sense from those awful podcasts that Frontier occasionally puts out that ED is receiving very little TLC at the moment. The biggest fear is that servers will be closed down at some stage and that would of course see the death of the game. There has also been talk of allowing ED to become open source, but I think that's prone to more issues than solutions. Frontier should sell it while it still has a decent amount of community support.
@@hugforbug to be honest, Starfield is a bit of a letdown for me because there is basically no real flight model in that game. I do not see the point of have a ship builder for it if I cannot actually fly it. Im all about the ships man thats why I'm still playing ED with my massive collection of 34 ships with 90% fully engineered. I hope fdev either sells (which I believe will never happen), contracts a small gaming studio to work on it, or open up the game for full mod support which I believe would be the more likely scenario. We'll see... Even with Emperium, Spaceborne 2, X4 Foundations, Star Citizen available, ED space flight model imo is unmatched. It needs a major update so I can continue playing it and annoying my gf. :D
Starfield ship play doesnt exist..i dont bother to even play it..its not even comparable with ED..but when im inside of a ship in SF, i wonder if it would be thing that the ED community always wanted; ship interiors.. i must admit i enjoyed walking in my ship for a while but im sure i wont ever again after a month.
@@hugforbug Yes I want ship interiors for ED and I always wanted that but heres the thing, you can have it as it is now that we go into the blue circle to quickly enter the ship then when you are sitting in the cockpit you can hit a keybind or button on the keyboard to get out of your chair and walk around in your ship. Ship interiors can be basically setup but dont have to ahere to the module setup. I think it would work. Lots of things can be done with ED which is the pissoff we have over this game. The game is not the issue its obviously fdev. That has always been the problem with ED. Fdev does not deserve to be developer of their own game and the sad thing is they want to keep the game in the current state that its in.
Well.... Starfield really made me want to come back to playing E.D., seeing as that the space part of that game is tiny and not so satisfying. I'm going to have to relearn how to play this game and I sort of dread that part. I stopped in the middle of 2021 and i'm starting to miss it. I would gladly donate for projects like Elite, if it kept the development alive. I wish I could petition Elon Musk to continue updates:)
Thanks..not hiding that i use TTS actually, just wanted to check..english is not my native language so i dont really know how its recieved.." statistics " was obvious, it was a long day and i was tired to correct it..you work production so you know that sometimes its just to much and you just want the thing to finish no matter what..thanks!
@@hugforbug Yes. Sometimes it's just time to let something be "as it is". I understand using TTS if English isn't your native language and you want to reach a larger audience.
@@hugforbug a lot of work though. it would be the best option, as it would allow for a reset of issues in ED 1, and allow for more to be added easily on new software. but that would cost money, alot of money, money that frontier may not want to risk. we need to get ED 1 into a good enough place for them to consider making a second one, and even then they may decide to re focus on the game as it stands now and update it with the features they would add in a second game.
The issues with Elite are numerous and most have to do with the gameplay loop and were never fixed. To be honest Elite needed a narrower focus for what they wanted to do with the game. The end result was a game that had a lot of half assed PVE and PVP features and even way back when when FD released features like ship launched fighters they were so broken that half the time the game would just kick you out of the instance if you used it and netcode and P2P meant that there was a lot of instability to any multiplayer activity.
the team behind elite didn't catch the ball that was thrown at them. its so sad because with a budget and a dedicated team this game still have the chance to become the masterpiece it deserves to be. No other game have the same level of Dedicated players, that elite had.
Hi welcome to Elite, where you will grind to be allowed to grind, for then have access to a community grind mission, after you complete it you will read the result of the grind from the only newspaper company in the galaxy. Foreshadowing a future grind. But if you want to grind faster, you will have to grind some more. The grind is ENDLESS
What I would like to see, is in the background the game is rebuilt with a new engine, that allows for some of the stunning planetary enviroments we have seen in other games of late... Terran landables with varied flora and fauna and transfer the old galaxy map with the current tags and exploration over to the new version and Elite can be back on top again..
I truly loved Elite and think it's amazing but tbh I quit like a year before odyssey. Why? Because as a new player I was investing alot, building new ships and I wanted to play with the community. But getting hunted down by 2 tryhards and losing my ship forever after that hard work really made me play in single player and for me the game became dead and lifeless after that
I've bought Elite: Dangerous twice and never played it (once on Steam, once on Humble Bundle). It never let me log in, and every time I had the energy and motivation to play I couldn't actually load the game, and that frustration soon dampened the motivation. It's one of those shi**y things where you buy it on Steam, and then need to login via some third party site that doesn't seem to recognise that you own the game. Frontier: Elite 2 is one of my favourite games of all time.
Oldness wouldn't count in case of an Elite type game in my opinion. Whenever theres a new update people overloading the servers to see whats going on. If the updates were rich in depth and content, that player number would remain high still.
This is a rant, sorry but... I returned recently to the game, got some money to pay the carrier debt (which was Reason #1 why I regret coming back) and me and some friends went out to do some anti xeno, because when the whole invasion happened, we had so much fun protecting stations that we can land on without losing progress of the battle. (We are not great at anti xeno, so the ability to just land mid combat and repair/rearm made it allot more fun). #2 Of why we regret coming back was seeing... We cant do that anymore? we cant find a single station that has the defend event on it at all. I posted on Reddit about it and found out its like, super super rare now, and kinda only happens before players "win" the system ( i guess? ) but they havent fixed/updated the status labels on the stations, so stations "under attack" means theyve already been saved/destroyed and theres no way to fight thargoids there, until the week ends. #3 was the glaives. What the f#ck is the point of us spending hundreds of hours grinding guardian equipment just for FDev to be like "lol theyre all useless now sorry"? So now we have to like, underfit our ships with less powerful modules to fight a thargoid, get badly damaged, jump back to our carrier hope we dont get glaived and repeat over again until we hopefully get a goid kill or two on the easier varients of the goids. We gave up, realised its just not profitable as we were losing credits and not gaining any. Went back to some pretty chill mining that we all loved to do. Spent hours cracking geodes and harvesting those sweet sweet voipals. Just to find out we made around 20 mil per hour because we realised the highest buying prices for them is from carriers that we cant access. Whats the point in this game anymore? Bounty hunting is still lame, PVE is still lame, combat zones dont pay as much anymore as it used to and the AI are very funny in its behavior, mining is only worth doing if you do guide mining and abuse the duping with laser mining, anti xeno is just nerfed to all hell, the engineering is more grindy, the guardian stuff isnt worth jack now, Does FDEV hate us ?
First of all thanks for sharing your ideas here, im very happy seeing there are still people cares for Elite, at least thinks it is worth discussing. Actually, i agree with you almost %100. #1 Thargoid Combat: Totally agree and i am also pissed of when i saw that the only thing that is fun is GONE?!? why?? WHY? #2 Stations: Totally agree: It was a reason for some people to gather and enjoy as a group ; removing this ruined the multiplayer gameplay. #3 Glaives: Totaly agree: Meaningless, irritating and not well designed Glaives.. not an addition, a distraction, just an irritating bump for the Thargoid story. Not well designed, not much thinking behind..almost like a bad bug that makes you to exit from game. The only part that i do not agree is Fdev side of the story. I think they dont hate us because i think they barely exist..the main mind behind the game is gone..there is almost no one left in Fdev taking care of Elite ( thats my opinion based on the things i read of course, i dont know whats going on within the company ). Elite is not being managed by the right people for a very loooong time. Im sure there are bunch of people trying their best and i dont blame them for this, but i think this is a company policy, they are just trying to protect and preserve whats left as much as they can from now on, i think they wont invest on Elite anymore, but i hope they do.. Thanks! o7
@@hugforbug Yeah you're right, I was just angry I don't think FDEV actually hates us. I hope more comes from Elite, or even a promise of a new Elite entirely, there's no game like Elite and it will be sad to see a game series die like this. (These star Citizen but Im barely making enough money to upgrade my PC to play it) Think you're a great channel and I'm keen to see more of your content. Fly safe o7
@@tgdelta2455 i think the only way out of this is a new Elite game which is unlikely to happen since David Braben is out of Fdev..lots of money and lots of time is needed, but i fear the main issue is not time and money here.. money will be found and time is there, but the question is ; does Fdev today have the vision and have the right people to create a new Elite game? im not sure..Thanks for the nice words of the channel! O7
@@hugforbug Braben wasn't better when he was still a CEO of FDev. It's HIS fault ED went the wrong way, his wrong decisions. At this point I really doubt he ever cared about ED whatsoever.
@@kempo79 I respect your opinion but i dont agree with it..he created Elite, he invented the whole thing..he was there when the Odyssey happened but i dont think its fair to blame Braben for all..he is the reason there is a game called elite
Game has zero serious content.. mindless level of grind .. poor player base.. let's face it.. it is time to shut down server. To be honest, it would be a waste of electricity to power the server for this game. Frontier devs had everything: the entire galaxy and a base of dedicated players, whom it turned out they had absolutely no respect for. I don't know what ruined them: greed, laziness, lack of ideas, or maybe, what no one wants to admit, lack of skills to develop this title. I hope no one will let them work on a project bigger than a Windows calculator.
Back when the game was new it had game play issues, game mechanics problems, balance tuning, those were never addressed. Everyone kind of got used to them and kept hoping that one day they'd be addressed. Now it's old and everyone is realizing those issues are never going away, so they let go and move on.
I think ED has come to an end. And only a new Elite title could breathe new life into the Franchise. This time with the atmospheric planets, the fauna and flora, interiors of ships, etc...
I am not gonna lie, I will come back to Elite on occasion as it was my very first space sim. . .that said, I cannot deny a little dissapointment at how the lore has progressed. TBF I am now headed to Colonia to resettle and get away from the Thargoids as I don't do xeno combat, but am an explorer and miner.
There should be more peripheral settlements like Colonia..my first visit was lots of fun and i want to visit rhere again. Elite is like a guitar for me, it sits on the couch for weeks and i dont play, but it sits there..
if it wasn't nerfed and turned into a grind fest, I would return for sure. I'm just happy I enjoyed the game while it was still fun. They started ruining it once they brought out the engineers and mining. The mining was good, but then the nerfs started. I was hoping it was just a once off thing, but after a few months of watching the patches. I knew it was time to stop playing. Haven't touched Elite since a few months after mining got introduced.
I am a miner too. The nerfs you mentioned certainly didn't make anything better..if the mitigations were to make the Elite economy more balanced, then it wasn't worth alienating miners from the game just for that.
unfortunately the game is old graphics, engine, simulation all the fans of this simulator have gone Star Citizens light years ahead of ED Odyssey. I too will soon move on to Star Citizens
For space exploration simulation, Star Citizen is a good alternative obviously..but also, SC is also a game with lots of issues waiting to be solved..thanks for shairng your opinion. O7
@@hugforbug for Space exploration... SC Is actually terrible choice as there quite literally is no real exploration like in Elite. For a Space enthusiat, it just doesn't work. If someone's preference is just being able to walk in ships or shoot stationary NPCs then sure. Btw it doesn't actually even look all that much better either, cryengine showing it's age as well.
Just came across your channel. Fully agree with you, I love this game, liked and subscribed. The exploration can be jaw dropping at times. Watching ring asteroids slowly drift be as I watch from the surface of a moon close to the rings, finding a great active field of volcanic vents and fumaroles, or watching CMEs at close range dance into space (your background vids have some real banger examples of those 👍). In those moments, I'm reminded of that line from Bladerunner, "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe."
First of all, thanks for the support. As you can see from my videos, im into the cinematic of the space more than anything, im very happy that you liked them. Blade Runner is a masterpiece imo. 07
1:54 I completely disagree, that is fd’s fault, leaving their game to drift. There are much older games, even 20 years old, that keep making ton of money, because the devs actually care for them, keep improving them, adding relevant features and communicating with the players, all things that fd has never done
Interestingly, I've just started again.... played since BBC micro days, was a backer, stopped when Odyssey launched like many people. I play in VR, and Oddy was bo%%ocks - appalling code, glitchy, frame drops, just truly awful. And FPS - meh - if I wanted FPS I'd play an FPS game. HOWEVER, having just reinstalled, the last updates do actually make it playable again in VR, the graphics seem to be fairly sorted, there is actually no need to go and do the FVS thing and I'm really enjoying just playing Elite the way I used to again. I may get involved in the thargoid thing - that looks fun - but I'm still optimistic that Fdev sort their sh&t out!
At the launch of Odyssey, the game was technically so bad that no one could focus on the actual content. This happened to lots of games, Bethesda experienced the same thing with Fallout 76 and received a lot of criticism. Fdev has been dealing with these problems for a very long time and for now I can say that the game is technically stable. Now we have another problem, which is that Fdev was very badly affected by this failure of Odyssey and, in a sense, shelved the game. I think Thargoid add-ons are not good enough and much better needs to be done. Fdev is a company capable of doing this, but they are also going through a difficult period and I do not expect them to make very bold and big decisions for a while..o7
They nerfed auto farming yesterday. At this point, I wasn't even stacking missions for it. I would just leave my BH at a low res, and check on it throughout the day at work... now, after about 20 mins, you aggro sys auth somehow. Frontier killed half the playerbase with that move.
I enjoy the game, considering that I'm playing it on a console whose version the developers abandoned Without updating us to at least version 4.0...Shame on them. But Elite version of Horizons is still great, and Console players are still breathing life into it as best they can. Hope is not lost yet. о7, cmdr's.
Eh, they could do another expansion. Starfield is not a replacement, if anything it'll just make more desire for a more pragmatic space experience. The ED title might be old, but the engine and the stuff they've added on to it isn't.
I feel like elite dangerous needs to add some new ax weapons that use the materials from the titans. A way to kill the titans permanently and to add 1 last ship to send the game off.
I’ve been on this game for 18mo now. It has been infectious. As infections go, there are ups and downs, but the infection stays. I didn’t play the “Odyssey” iteration for the 1st 12 months, Until it was optimized, and I have never been a FPS type gamer. But this game got me into that! I should add that I would never play this if it didn’t have VR. The immersion of space flight (real space/hyper-cruise) is exhilarating. And I know that there are so many other things in this virtual world that I can do… but I just have not done them yet. I hope that the big “feature overhaul” is the power play. But don’t ever make engineering easier. The “grind” creates investment. Might not be fun. But if it was easy, everyone would do it. The game is 40 yrs old almost. It ain’t goin nowhere. Good.
A simulation game must have challenges and should not be easy. At the same time the " Grind " should be at the just right amount so the players are not annoyed..07
I'll probably be one of the 1000 players remaining. I've pretty much played every day for the last 9 years and I intend to continue until they shut the servers..
It really is a shame they dropped xbox just as next gen was about to be released .but i stil enjoy the xbox version every now and again with my trusty thrustmaster .it remains THE spaceflight game .
ED offers the best spaceflight simulation.I never understood the reason they took decision not to support the consoles anymore, i hope it comes back.. 07
havent played since horizon release. since I feel that Starfield is dogshit its got me thinking about ED again. no clue we got space legs now holy moly
I love elite dangerous special in my Xbox but idk It doesn't feel the same without the galnet or the objectives and event updates, although we don't have legs I think that thargoid invasion event could have left us with space battles or things like that
My take is that Odyssey was an extremely bad DLC in matter of technical execution. Most games dont get rid of a bad release - and Odyssey was not ready when it was released. Everything good in this DLC was overshadowed by a great amount of bugs, extreme bad performance fps wise and heavy stuttering on hardware who did run ED fine even in VR. Instead on working on additional features after EDO, FD was forced to invest 1 year of further work and release many updates - to get decent performance (still not so good as ED and not good enough to get VR on EDO) and get rid of some major bugs (and introduce new ones). The Thargoid story is not bad... but as not all players want to follow that story - many are avoiding it, so FD should have invested some dev time and updates on a view new Ships and something for Explorers.
Odyssey's failure is more about the technical failure that ruined the other aspects, thats for sure, but i also think the main idea about the expansion ; the space legs ; was not the right direction for Elite. I dont blame anyone who designed it, i actually supported the space legs and i was very excited about it but after playing a little while, i understood that this expansion had to be about ships, places, discovery and exploration. I totally agree that a whole year is wasted just to fix it and put the Elite back in track but i respectfully not agree with your opinion about Thargoid stuff, i actually think its bad. Execution is bad first of all, timings are bad, modules are confusing etc etc...now the future path for Elite is very clear ; exploration and discovery, i hope we will see that in 2024..07
I am playing Starfield at the moment, first, it was great to walk around my ship, but it gets boring very quickly..Ship interiors is an addition i would really like but that will just save the day imo..thanks fornsharing your opinion.07
the recent community event otherwise known as the imperial "gold rush". proved beyond any doubt there are still thousands of players, who want something that is NOT Thargoid related. Being a zoologist is all well and good but this is supposed to be about space ... how about they give us some shiney new ships after all the thargoids have had about 6 must be our turn... o7 cmdr
The game still isn’t bad but odyssey was such a fucking waste of time and resources and the games’ potential is now stagnating and I’m worried FDev will let a game with massive potential and a passionate playerbase just die. Why is the spacesim genre such a clusterfuck? The only game that’s knocked it out of the park is NMS, but it’s just not meaty enough in terms of hardcore sim mechanics for me. Hell it’s barely a space sim but the nature of its genre and gameplay land it a mention in comparison to SC and ED. Another thing is I think this game’s art style is basically perfect and timeless. It’s not needlessly complex and taxing, but it’s pretty much flawless for what it is supposed to be and I am still frequently in awe of it. This game could go on with this exact same graphics fidelity for another decade easily.
Fair enough.. the only way to understand the situation is having all the data from all the platforms which i dont think is possible. I believe the Steam data tells something and cannot be ignored. Thanks for sharing your opinion though. 07
Leaving dangerous elite on consoles also made many players obviously stop playing and although it is not as big as on PC, many people put money in and played on consoles if they couldn't afford a good PC.
I am definetly using TTS, and there is so much critism about me using TTS, i am on the verge of using my own voice or stop creating content 😆 English is not my native language, i created this channel on English just to reach a wider audiance. But im beginning to see that TTS is not sustainable any more..when my dust particle" channel upgraded to " a very very small channel " the majority of the comments are about TTS.. i will use my own voice and talk spontaneous actually since i am ..ing tired of writing text 😄, and it will be a very fun thing to watch myself speaking with my absolute disasterous grammer. 😁😁. Thanks 07 👋
Many people are starting to recognise Elite Dangerous now because of starfields LIE about 1000 planets while delivering 4 in comparison extremely small landing spots per planet only. This would have been the chance for Elite Dangerous to take off. To win a big followership. If they had VR support still they would have been even more interesting for people and would have potential for the future, since the metaquest 3 and metaquest 3 lite should be bringing VR to people for good. Even me, who has an almost fully tuned anaconda and a beluga liner and more ships only from playing the game without tipps and tricks how to maximise money in insane ways, i stopped playing for now, since i do not have VR support for the new season. I would have played it FOR INSANE AMOUNTS OF TIME if they had just simple 3D- VR support for odyssee. But nope. We´re done. It´s over now. Go back to flat. And of course it is hard to go back to flat once you started playing in VR. All they need to do is just enable a three dimensional view. That would be enough alrady. No need to support the aiming with guns using vr controlllers and stuff. This is secondary. Many people play VR games using vorpx without any controller tracking support and they love to do so. WHY? Why did they give up on progress and VR? Can´t understand this. At all.
Poor decision making and lack of resource..i think this is the reason..actually Fdev have the resource, but they are using for their new games imo.. There are lots of people wants VR back, i think Fdev should realise that. Im sure they are reading these comments since i am big and famous channel 😂 About Starfield, i totally agree that " 1000 " planets marketing is not the case but Elite has millions (if not billions) and at the end of the day its a planet generation code..the variety should be evaluated through real variety not the count. 07
@@underleft There are no planets. There are 4 zones of 7x7km around your individual landing spot. Which are far away from each other. And when you add a fifth one, one of them gets deleted. Including all you discovered.
@@hugforbug Yeah... i remember David saying that vr was the right decision for ED. And now its basically gone. Let us hope, that input from fans will change something, yes. Yes it depends on variety to a certain degree. But in space planets can be very similar, too. So i thnk starfield has enough variety for 1000 planets to make sense. Daggerfall is basically the same everywhere. And people love it for its size
Is Elite Dangerous dead? Well it depends on what you mean by that. If you mean in effect about new content and improved graphics for the consoles, then yes. However, as I have come to accept the fact that there will be no new updates or content to the original versions of the consoles also leaves a template of what the game was originally supposed to be. And I am purposefully glad that the consoles were spared the train wreck that was Odyssey. The Horizons version of the game itself is still playable and players are still able to engage in many things like exploring the galaxy as it is on the console versions. But that also leaves the game in a state of permanent limbo as FDev needs to decide what to do with the game in question. Because you now have two versions of the game. The REAL Elite Dangerous on the consoles and a fake wannabe off shoot on the Windows PC platform. As a veteran of the Elite Dangerous console versions, I am happy to continue playing the Horizons version as it is in its current state. It still has a lot of potential for creating new story lines and continuing the Horizons story.
There may be a bounce back from Starfield. I doubt that many people are really satisfied with a space game with such limited control of your spaceship. That being said, the game we all want would have the spaceships of Elite, the rich characters of Cyberpunk, and Starfield's galaxy of missions. How about Elite Universe.
Had FDEV been smarter, they would have been working on an *Elite II* for years now, complete with updated graphics and game play. And yes, something close to a Star Citizen level of game, just without all the soul crushing bugs. However, Elite will continue, it is what it is and by this time those 1000 or 3000 daily players will go about their PvP or exploration, PvE wars and whatnot business... but new ships and entire new narrative... probably not:( I would think though, they'd need to at least continue on with the Thargoid stuff to some "conclusion", maybe, or maybe not. As long as the game is making something, enough to justify at least a maintenance crew of staff, it will live on. BUY ARX!!!
"it's getting harder to create content for it" That right there is why the doomtubers keep pushing their 'Elite is dead' message. It's dead to them because they want to make weekly videos about new stuff. It's not dead to long-term players because the activities we enjoy are still there. The various storylines keep progressing, both in Galnet and with voiced logs, in-game locations and CGs. We get new modules, new weapons, new enemies ... but not fast enough for content creators to make a buck off it all. Hence why a lot of content creators went to cover Star Cit, because there's a ton of news they can talk about, albeit not much to show for it gameplay wise. So I amuse myself by watching Star Citizen content creators getting increasingly agitated about that title ... while I play Elite Dangerous.
About Thargoids, Space Legs and Fleet Carriers... yeah... that was a shit investment. Could have made the game good, but nah... they listened to the carebear explorers and now the game is dead and the devs are broke.
its the lazy grinds man they never cared to address the plain simple fact that its ever too boring to rinse and repeat in a game that should remain immersive but your forced to break that immersion with THE GRINDS!
Community kills Elite, and its "dead" will be their responsible, for most part. Elite have many similarities with SOULS games, they are both required to learn how to play, both challenging in their own way. You can`t casual jump in to SOULS game, like its hard to start to play Elite. Heck, in both games you will gnaw with teeth main storyline. But SOULS game has great community, that helps newcomers to learn the game, and show whats good about it. In Elite we have only hate. Gust search a video about Elite in youtube, 7 / 10 video will be about how bad Elite is. What can I say, when Odyssey comes out, YT-bers was saying its bad because there is now new ships. OMG, you got new dimension in a game, Elite from space sim, change its genre to Action, and you want new ships??? Its like, imagine you playing Need for speed, and with next update in become GTA... And I want you to remember, when Odyssey come out, players create a petition in forum, that devs need to ad ability to sit on a chairs. They literary thought that it was game-braking, that they cant. Yes, Elite has issues, but its not grind, or inability to sit on a chair. Every gameplay part of Eiite is solid, like flying, space battles, mining, exploration, on foor - shooting, stealth, trading, etc. Problem is there is little to do with that. Like where is all random events, and encounters. Imagine while you mining you can find freighter frozen in a asteroid, that you can release with charges and get extra minerals, or just logs with some random story. Devs need to ad more logs, and random missions that will lead you to just interesting story, Yes you will do the same gameplay staff as usual, but now there will be purpose behind it.
Community of Elite is like a "mother" to the game, loves it deeply but treats it very harsh since she wants her child to be the best..actually they are ( also me ) father more than a mother ; because mothers can be easily impressed but for fathers nothing is enough and he is never satisfied..so, the community will never satisfy anything less than legendary since we are talking about Elite franchise..the biggest space sim ever made and has the deepest roots..it is a very long subject and i will make a video for it but the community has a love&hate relationship with elite, i think that is not only abou the game and the gamer ; its bigger than that, its the new " human " that loves very hard but hates in a minute, without patience and consumes everyhing very shortly and gets bored..at 1992, i was looking on a blue screen of Elite II, trading goods with only text and felt like a real space pirate..a verymlong subject... o7
@@hugforbuganalogy is good thing, but its not working with this situation. Because community judge game not for what it is. But for isnt. Odyssey launch show that. Obsidian ant had stream, called Elite in retrospective, where he with another 2 popular ED streamers talks about ED from 2014 - 2022. Can you gues how many good thing they say about ED in 3 hrs stream. NONE. For 3 hrs of retrospective of ED they didnt say any good about it. Imagine been new player who want to try ED, and you Google it, and you see only hate. Will you try it? How often you try a game if first 2 - 3 video reviews talking bad about it? I bet you never try that king of games
FDev even ADDED the ability to sit on chairs in a later update, and (a) nobody uses this feature and (b) people went on to demand some other useless item. You can't please them all, not even worth trying.
@@Sighman Yeap! There is a top Elite streamer, Yamix, or whatever. Hi sad that most disappointing thin in Odyssey was inability to sit in bar. And you know how many times he uses it after it was implemented? Yeap ZERO times 🤣. The most important part of the Odyssey that crucial to his gameplay ( by his own words) , he do not use it. As one classic said "the game is fine, the community is F@€£D" 🤣
Ppl playing starfield and star citizen are already tiring out. They'll come back they always come back. Even ppl I know who left after the many glitches of odessy when it first hit. Have come back n love the game again. By next year you'll see traffic double I bet my anaconda and federal corvette on it. Lmfao...
They keep putting lipstick on the pig that E:D has become. It will continue it's march towards maintenance mode. If they put $$ and devs into the game instead of new paint and the freakin' Thargoid war...and fix the absolute travesty that Odyssey came out as, I and I'm sure the multi tens of thousands of players they lost will make their way back. Problem is Frontier can't/won't see that. Sad.
Fair enough, i see your concern..But the real problem is; i am a human that uses AI voice, and you know this for %100..in a very near future, when AI starts to create content on youtube, you will complain why every AI is on youtube creating content with AI voice..and after a while, AI will create such magnificent content that no one will be able to tell if the content creator is human or AI.
The Hunt, the Formidine Rift mystery... etc. Those were great times. ED needs story-tellers.
@@Akelfir no, its not too late. Ita just that devs dont update the game so much anymore. And it ruins the game bc we dont get new ships etc

Elite is great and has amazing potential
Doesn’t matter how old it is iv bin playing this for almost a decade now it’s getting there all it needs is attention and a bigger team
The best period for Elite is the first 1000 hours 😄. 07
If they put VR back in the game I would play it forever.
They have NOT removed VR, still the best VR Spacesim imo.

@@hugforbug Haha also got Asp a day ago.

Ironically, since Odyssey launched almost all new content has been Horizons-based.
I feel similarly
i just beginn a week ago and i love it! :D
Lots of things to do for you! Great.07
Man I've been on this game since 2018 started out on Console migrated to PC... literally today 12th of September 2023 I bought my fleet carrier and I I am so proud of that all of the trade runs all of the hard work paid off this game is special and yeah it's old but there ain't many out there that hold a candle to it even though it doesn't get updated like others but as the name indicates its Elite over all others 07 Commanders.
07, fleet carrier is fun but dont you think that it must be improved?
@@hugforbug Great. Thanks for the suggestions.
I still play the game. I just wish I had more time. BTW if this is your real voice, it’s awesome, I would like this voice more in your videos.

I played this game almost every day until they stopped supporting VR. Properly developed, ED could have been the greatest VR showcase.
Sure, why not?🙂
If it gets to that point, I intend to be one of those "last thousand" players.
It's sad that now, when the game has a lot of content and technology behind it, it's in its worst time...
I hope it will get better..
@@underleft so what do you think the average play time is per day or per week per player is then?
I don’t think they will ever sell it but they should or contract a smaller studio to work on it. They are spiteful so I believe they will never sell.
Thats also the solution in my mind..lots of challenges along the way but it may turn out to be better than today
Its like riding a bike, u wont forget 😆 ..5 4 3 2 1 ENGAGE ! Elon wont be interested imo, he has other toys to mess with. 07
is a amazing idea
Literally on the fence about coming back to the game. Still undecided but appreciate your passion and honesty.
been there :). Thanks for the feedback, just a quick question : Did you realised that my voice is TTS?
@@hugforbugYes. I work in video/audio production and nobody pronounces “statistics” like that.
😄 exactly..thanks! 07
In order to get the new features requested from the community...Elite Dangerous 2 should be created
That would be awesome..07
@@hugforbug a lot of work though. it would be the best option, as it would allow for a reset of issues in ED 1, and allow for more to be added easily on new software. but that would cost money, alot of money, money that frontier may not want to risk. we need to get ED 1 into a good enough place for them to consider making a second one, and even then they may decide to re focus on the game as it stands now and update it with the features they would add in a second game.
They don’t need to imo just add some basic structures to capture and war over space in groups pinch a few ideas from Eve Online
I was playing Xbox. They cancelled development so I quit. I loved elite. I was crushed when it ended
That was a decision that i never understood..
Just returned the game today, kind of sad to see the game in this state.
dont give up the hope ;). 07
Elite dangerous on X1SX. And it is jus as good as the day I started playing. Been back on it since I got new system and I can’t get enough 😅
Best vr expirence you can have. Im still grinding for engineers
The worst part is the colonia engineers..but you know what, i remember that journey positively..for me,it was pure grind at that time :). 07
😄
I want 2 thinks:
1. A good VR when you walk
2. Walk inside the ship, tje rooms, garage, etc
I'm playing right now baby wooooooo love this game
What I would like to see, is in the background the game is rebuilt with a new engine, that allows for some of the stunning planetary enviroments we have seen in other games of late... Terran landables with varied flora and fauna and transfer the old galaxy map with the current tags and exploration over to the new version and Elite can be back on top again..
if they dont like elite....let them be citizens.
I wish it where for me elite dangerous still has better fps and performance and star citizen you pay real money for ships you can’t really earn them
ED may be dead but I'm not buying scam citizen
@@zat-1-fury In Star Citizen, you can earn 99 percent of the ships in-game with in-game currency. Not sure where you got your info from.
I used to love this game, sad to see it turn the way it did. Stop hopefully they will turn it around but for now there’s other games to play.
Unfortunetly, thats the case from my pov also. 07
I truly loved Elite and think it's amazing but tbh I quit like a year before odyssey. Why? Because as a new player I was investing alot, building new ships and I wanted to play with the community. But getting hunted down by 2 tryhards and losing my ship forever after that hard work really made me play in single player and for me the game became dead and lifeless after that
So you died once and quit? Great story bro!
The potential is there, that's for sure..the community just needs a spark
Bounty hunting is still lame,
PVE is still lame,
combat zones dont pay as much anymore as it used to and the AI are very funny in its behavior,
mining is only worth doing if you do guide mining and abuse the duping with laser mining,
anti xeno is just nerfed to all hell,
the engineering is more grindy,
the guardian stuff isnt worth jack now,
Does FDEV hate us ?
(These star Citizen but Im barely making enough money to upgrade my PC to play it)
Think you're a great channel and I'm keen to see more of your content.
I agree that they have everything..Elite community is the best community ever..not even debatable..supportive, creative, active etc..
Back when the game was new it had game play issues, game mechanics problems, balance tuning, those were never addressed. Everyone kind of got used to them and kept hoping that one day they'd be addressed. Now it's old and everyone is realizing those issues are never going away, so they let go and move on.
My sentiments exactly
It's not dead, but it's in #maintenancemode
I think ED has come to an end. And only a new Elite title could breathe new life into the Franchise. This time with the atmospheric planets, the fauna and flora, interiors of ships, etc...
Long time ago..
@@hugforbug sounds about right lol. . .you play M&K, HOTAS, or HOSAS?(If you don't mind me asking that is)
I play M&K, i never experienced the others, but i plan to play Microsoft Flight Sim also, so i may end up getting a proper device for that..you?
@@hugforbug mostly HOSAS, but I am currently saving up to get a lot more peripherals
Greetings commanders! Is it still possible to wing together on Xbox?
I really dont know the situation for the consoles..
if it wasn't nerfed and turned into a grind fest, I would return for sure.
I still love Elite and play it on my Console even without the SpaceLegs Addon what is deleayed for me 😅
Space Legs didnt add much, so you are not missing anything :).07
Glad they coming out with something now.
Hope was right also!
i wish in some way thy would open it up to modding, the devs gave up but im sure the community would love it as hard as that would be to accomplish.
I won't lose hope if it becomes playable offline.
I play SF at the moment, i love it but it is completely different..If Fdev will add new things to the game, it must be about simulation not RPG imo
I am robbing CMDRs almost every day and i wont ever stopp because someone on the interwebs tells me i cant find anyone anymore.
This game has enormous potential. I hope they get to unlock it.
Such a long break, i think its time! 😄
I'm thinking on playing again on xbox I'm hoping it's still has other ppl playing
I hope they do, i really dont know the situation on consoles..07
Execution is bad first of all, timings are bad, modules are confusing etc etc...now the future path for Elite is very clear ; exploration and discovery, i hope we will see that in 2024..07
All this time and they still haven't added ship interiors
I am playing Starfield at the moment, first, it was great to walk around my ship, but it gets boring very quickly..Ship interiors is an addition i would really like but that will just save the day imo..thanks fornsharing your opinion.07
We have fleet carrier interiors and they were boring (ish) after the first week.
Exactly..i dont think ship interiors will make a difference..
the recent community event otherwise known as the imperial "gold rush". proved beyond any doubt there are still thousands of players, who want something that is NOT Thargoid related. Being a zoologist is all well and good but this is supposed to be about space ... how about they give us some shiney new ships after all the thargoids have had about 6 must be our turn... o7 cmdr
Exploration and Discovery is the future of Elite imo..thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Came back to Elite recently. Nothing comes close.
The grind is too much, i have over 900 hours on this game. And i just can't keep up with the grind
900? Nice..i have 1300 hours, close..i was considering myself as an "Elite" veteran, recently a cmmdr told me he has 12.000....12.000!!! 😶
This game could go on with this exact same graphics fidelity for another decade easily.
so much resource wasted on odyssey..i wonder if the Horizons team and Odyssey team are the same..07
I don’t agree about the Steam stats. All backers and many of its keenest players downloaded in 2014 from Frontier before it became available on Steam.
Fair enough.. the only way to understand the situation is having all the data from all the platforms which i dont think is possible. I believe the Steam data tells something and cannot be ignored. Thanks for sharing your opinion though. 07
From my point of view it's a waste of time. Developers completely ignoring player community.
Leaving dangerous elite on consoles also made many players obviously stop playing and although it is not as big as on PC, many people put money in and played on consoles if they couldn't afford a good PC.
Elite needs a proper developer. It's obvious Fdev has given up and moved on to focus on other products. Also are you using some text to speech?
I am definetly using TTS, and there is so much critism about me using TTS, i am on the verge of using my own voice or stop creating content 😆
English is not my native language, i created this channel on English just to reach a wider audiance.
Im sure they are reading these comments since i am big and famous channel 😂
About Starfield, i totally agree that " 1000 " planets marketing is not the case but Elite has millions (if not billions) and at the end of the day its a planet generation code..the variety should be evaluated through real variety not the count.
Its $5.99 on PlayStation right now
It worries me when a game price is that low..
"Fdev needs to decide what to do with the game" totally agree with that..thanks for sharing your opinion. 07
That combo only needs Star Citizen and then it will cost around 1 Billion $.. that would be the first game to be priced about thousand bucks :)
nah, got no plans to go back to Elite, it died a long time ago for me. Once burned, never forgotten.
@@underleft With spaceships, space travel, and other planets to explore.
Why would a new player invest their time and money when they know the game is already in maintenance mode.
BUY ARX!!!
"it's getting harder to create content for it"
That right there is why the doomtubers keep pushing their 'Elite is dead' message.
Lmfao...
There is one thing for sure, the Community will come back if there is a good reason...
@@hugforbug ground bug war is coming...
Com'on apes you wanna live forever!
- Sergent Rico - Starship Troopers
SC? ...Star Citizen breaks its player count and funding records Every year.
They keep putting lipstick on the pig that E:D has become. It will continue it's march towards maintenance mode.
If they put $$ and devs into the game instead of new paint and the freakin' Thargoid war...and fix the absolute travesty that Odyssey
came out as, I and I'm sure the multi tens of thousands of players they lost will make their way back.
Problem is Frontier can't/won't see that. Sad.
I think players will come back when there is a " real " reason..07
when the implement VR on foot i will be back. Lack of VR made me quit the game
I never experienced VR..which device do you use?
@@hugforbug i played on a CV 1 in 2016. It's impossible to return to flatscreen after VR.
Do you experince headache or dizyness after using VR?
@@hugforbug no, never, and i can play like 10 hours in VR
Thanks! 07
Your TTS needs a bit of tweaking
It gets worse when tweaked 😟
AI tools are comming it will speed everything up
Game is georgeous
Why does everyone use AI voices now? It's honestly makes me sad for some reason.
Bruh it deas believe me its done
I still have hope...o7
