While arguably Transmetropolitan is considered Ellis' better known work, Planetary is nothing less than his magnum opus. I've lost count of how many times I've re-read that series. Thank you for giving a much-deserved spotlight and analysis.
I would add that one of Ellis' shorter works, Frankenstein's Womb, touches on many of the same themes through a Christmas Carol-style narrative involving Mary Shelley meeting her most famous creation.

Johnathon Haney Thanks! I'm surprised at how little Planetary has been discussed by TH-cam channels that cover comics, there is so much to unpack in it. Transmetropolitan is definitely the comic connected the most to Ellis, but I think he says even more with Planetary. I'm planning on eventually doing a Transmet video, but I've never read Frankenstein's Womb. I'm definitely going to now!

Warren Ellis really is one of those legends from the Vertigo legacy. Him, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Brian Azzarello, their work influences so much, It's so awesome to think about. Transmetropolitan is still probably my favorite work of cyberpunk after Blade Runner.

Ellis' best work, gorgeously fulfilled by the artwork of Cassady. Small item of note: while Bond was a part of the homage instilled in the character of spy John Stone, he is far more so one of Nick Fury than of Bond - hence the look of both character and the art panels depicting him which, in turn, pay tribute to artist Jim Steranko ala Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD.

If you have never read Planetary, get a hold of it and read Planetary!
It is one of the best series ever, simply because on the surface it is an homage to every type of media and highlights of entertainment in the 20th century. It's also a great take on the content/core ideas of comic books.
But then on a deeper level it is so much more, and kind of about reality itself -- both how we perceive it and actual -- which know one will ever truly know. It elegantly touches on all kinds of ideas from the multi-verse to .
Even the very pages that you flip through as a reader are discussed in the comic.
Go read it! or Re-read it again!
