When he was traded from the Braves, my Braves group was all about praising him as a good team mate and that stuff...at the time we all said that the only reason that Kansas was trading for him was to be a presence at the bench. And certainly he was!

People can get off the "he didn't even play in the series" horseshit. So what! He was a captain and a leader in the dugout and everyone on that team will tell you he was as important as anyone else. I wish we were bringing him back fro 2016 but I understand his decision to go play in Japan. This was a great speech and it makes smile, laugh, and even have a tear of pride swell up for my hometown and our team.

There were a lot of people who contributed to the Royals victorius World Series run and not in the public eye. Johnny Gomes is a member of our team and I am proud of him.
I remember hearing this at the parade. I looked around after he said " we wooped their*****!" an almost cried when I heard WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

Luke Hixon He was a character in the clubhouse that we needed. Sometimes Yost brings in players just to be morale raisers and charismatic, like he did with Raúl Ibañez.
He still had no business speaking at the parade. Guys like Moustakas, Hosmer, Perez, Gordon, Cain and Davis actually did something to earn "mic time".
Luke Hixon Did you not here Salvy chanting his name to speak? He obviously was loved throughout the team to say a few words. He was a clubhouse guy, a veteran on their staff and he was someone to round them up. Also, they mobbed him at the end. If that doesn't show how important he was to the team's success, REGARDLESS of what he did or didn't do on the field, then you have NO idea what the value of a team player is to a team.
