That adds up to her sharp quips and cynicism towards the Vtuber cycle. She knows that otaku people in Japan are usually obsessed, unhealth incels, and that her job its basically to pander for that crowd. Beyond the catchy and feel good songs we all know and love, lies one ugly picture. Recently Rushia did a stream in Nico Nico live shilling for one scam cellphone app. People got upset and called her a criminal, resulting on Rushia arguing at her chat, calling them scum. This is, before anything, the real face of otaku culture and streaming on Japan, and something Polka would probably make fun of. As example, she did a "TH-cam shorts" video where the setup its that one idol thinks she is going for one Vtuber audition, when its obviously a porn casting. Only Polka seems to poke fun at those taboo subjects that revolves around her job and the toxic culture around it. She even made a joke about sex toys on PolDen as "the way a Vtuber deals with life" . Its cynical, bitter, sharp and, of course, hilarious.

The Japanese use of the word "fetish" doesn't necessarily apply specifically to perversion, although it can. Flare defining a fetish as "a trait you really like" is accurate for how the word is used in Japan. Fubuki's infamous appreciation for glasses could be considered a fetish as well. Luna's assumption at fetishes are perverted, while not entirely inaccurate, doesn't technically apply to every fetish. So technically they're both right, Luna just had a bit of a misunderstanding lmao.

For the longest time, I thought the "sei"(性) in seiheki(性癖) meant sex, which would make seiheki = sexual preference, or kinks. I just looked up the definition for seiheki and the "sei"(性) actually came from kosei (個性), or personality. The word actually meant "innate (bad) habit" (translated from Japanese), which would be more like natural inclination to do or like certain things, or quirks (e.g. collecting things, speak loud, empathetic)
Just my "TIL" from why Luna had a misunderstanding.

@@msbkaioken136 The word the requester used in the question was "seiheki" (性癖), which is talking about traits you like or something you might consider a "charm point," etc. (The rambling explanation the requester gives before asking the question proper is actually quite comprehensive.)
However, that word can also be used colloquially to refer to one's sexual fetishes, which seems to be how Luna interpreted it...

By her own admission (at 2:40), Luna says she just saw the word "seiheki" in the question and picked it without reading the rest, so it sounds like she had prepared that answer in advance without realizing that the question was asking something else altogether, and decided to just roll with it.
As for the translation, it does feel wrong to use the word "fetish" as the translation of "seiheki," mostly because the meaning skews harder toward the sexual side in English (though they do try to explain it in the description of the video). However, I really don't want to cast aspersions in this regard, as it would take a far more creative writer than I to come up with a good translation for "seiheki" in this context which doesn't require the addition of TL notes.
@@amloessb thanks that's interesting I suppose but I have to say I don't think I really agree with your analogy if someone said that I would tell them they're being very annoyingly vague and they should have worded that better like they're absolutely ways of speaking in English to not leave things up for so much interpretation especially with your example the second interpretation would require a lot of assumption to be made my first thought would just be that the person is using the term fetish wrong and that they were referring to type which are two very different things

So the confusion was caused by a bit of a quirk in the Japanese language. When Luna asked "Luna-tan jishin no koto tte ii no?" she meant it to be interpreted as "is it also a fetish if it's about myself (instead of something about someone else)" but Flare interpreted it "is it okay if I reveal mine". In this context both are valid interpretations of what she said.
