Bae studied Japanese so she could become a voice actress. I studied Japanese so I could watch JP Vtuber streams. *We are not the same.* Also welcome back 🎉
Bae's Japanese is REALLY good. Like, honestly, her spoken Japanese has virtually native-level flow and pronunciation. I've been a Japanese-to-English translator for over 10 years, but actual workplace interactions have been almost strictly English that whole time, so my spoken Japanese is at a noticeably lower level than Bae's -- I can't form complex sentences nearly that quickly or smoothly, and make frequent grammar errors or get tongue-tied fairly often whenever I attempt to speak at that speed. So definitely mad respect to Bae! She makes even language "pros" like me look bad, imspiring us to do better. ;)
Putting 11 years, even if it was casually for the first 5, is an impressive amount of dedication. I hope now as Hololive member she has a fighting chance of voicing something in Japanese for a game or anime in the future.
welcome back! edit: watched it again and I just want to say how inspirational and relatable bae's story is. A lot of people start something "out of boredom" or "as a joke", but since there is a little bit of interest in there that led to them trying it in the first place, they would continue doing it until they didn't notice that a lot of time has already passed and that they actually like doing what they are doing. Then they would start setting a goal to reach out of enjoyment. Then after some time again, they would see how their original goal is just another means for another goal they would discover after the initial one. Then another one, and another as long as they don't get "satisfied" and still has that tiny bit of interest similar to what they had at the start.
