I don't think the gramps is shifted to early, the beetle is actually the car that's shifted early, you can hear the engine of the beetle through first gear, I think marty short-shifted to reduce wheelspin while moog didn't have to short shift because the gramps is 4 wheel drive so he's got a lot more grip off the line.
Your drag strip is WAAAY cooler than any of my local runs :/ I really love the concrete blocks + grass stadium seating setup...very aesthetically pleasing and looks comfy AF

I would've loved to know the times they both pulled. We know Super Gramps can do an 11 with Marty behind the wheel, but what about Moog? For some reason I feel like the difference could just be in the shifts. That, or I'm just trying to rationalize a Beetle chomping a turbo EZ36 wielding Liberty.
+AnthonyH Gramps the 10 second car was a gutted older generation Liberty(lighter car overall, plus it was gutted on top of that). This chassis is heavier to start with, plus full interior. The build changed when they lost the original Gramps.
For a true comparison, you have to switch drivers and do a run since since all these losses to the Beetle make it too easy to call Moog's racing skill into question. Only Moog also winning can solidify the results that it's the car and not the driver that's better.
Moog is the more experienced driver considering he has supergramps so I would say he drove daisy as good as they could, and Marty was still shifting exactly on the shift light every time in gramps. It wouldn't have made a difference who was driving which car.

I see what you did there MCM. When the song kicked in and said "reflections of smoke and fire", you can see Super Gramps is gray like smoke, and Miss Daisy could be the fire. And they reflected a bit on the strip.

lol oh right :D It doesn't burn any oil pretty much at all, which is surprising after 152k miles! Fuel economy isn't actually as horrific as you'd expect *if* you can resist putting your foot down. I've seen 25mpg fairly often but usually it's around 15-20mpg. I've seen 6 on track! :o

+SilverrrGaming - an engine swap again? They just did that. What needs to be done now, is to blow the fucker up. Then see what broke, strengthen it, and rebuild it. Then add more boost. Keep in mind that they are in uncharted territory with the new engine, and nobody knows how much boost it can take, before something goes wrong. As far as I remember, the engine is stock inside.

That is an awesome Beetle. My first car was a 71 Super Beetle and I would love to do something like that. You could have a lot of fun scaring mustangs and camaros with that.
I think the main thing that we learned from this is that Marty can shift a 35 year old Beetle better than Moog can shift a 10 year old Subaru. Seriously, those gear changes took eons, no idea what the power range is but it sounded like he was short shifting too.

+AnthonyH supergramps did 11s without any interior... now it has full interior and is much heavier... don't think it will still do 11s.

The bug ran 12s at low boost and around 100kw of power taken out because the clutch wasn't holding.So look for 11 or faster once set up right
