Straight talk from an Aussie. I had mine from June 98, through July 22. One piston started to seize, sold the whole bike for parts. Now on a 2005 R1. I love it.
Absolutely gorgeous bike mate! I've had 5 R1's since 1998 including this model but the blue one which unfortunately I had an accident on after a couple of years, my fault not the bike! Wish I'd still got it now! I've had the 4xv 2 5jj's, the first fuel injection 02 R1 and the 04 under seat exhaust model and I still rate the carb R1's as the best hands down. I've ridden loads of other bikes Suzuki kawasaki and still rate the 98 R1 the best, lovely bike, smooth power, instant response in any gear and in your case with the red and white one, an ideal pension fund! Look after her she's a beauty and keep that exup valve lubricated! All the best from the UK!
Keith D . Hi , yes I’ve also had two 5JJs also but nothing later than 2001 . I read that the injection 02 was as good as the carb models but to me the last carb R1s (5JJs ) were perfection for fuelling, absolutely faultless through the whole rev range . 98 R1s are in my opinion going to be one of the most sought after "classic bikes" for the next 20 years . The first of its kind , very distinctive (especially in Red/white , cult following and despite being 20 years old they still out handle most riders . Glad it brought back some fond memories for you (apart from crashing it ) 😭
@@runesika Hi mate, yes totally agree about the 5jj's fuelling, the last 2001 I had from my best friend and kept it for 8 years, I tried other bikes but nothing came close to the feeling of the 5jj but alas, I've now sold it back to him!😣 oh well, at least I still get to ride it occasionally and keep on top of the servicing for him. Take care, ride safe and enjoy that beautiful bike. I know you will!!
@@Hondavtrsp2 Hi , The only real advantage of the 1998 over the 2001 is the fact it’s the seminal R1 and will always be more sought-after than a later model , the 5JJ is a smoother more refined bike but only you can answer what is important to you . 👍
Richard Pearson ) What was the maddest sports bike back in 1998 is now a really good compromise between outright power and comfort compared with today’s 200 BHP sport bikes. It’s lightness and nimble handling genuinely surprised me after the H2 , definitely a motorcycle legend and one of the greatest, if not the greatest series of a one model machine.
@@runesika mine was registered in February 1998 with the registration starting R138 they are a fantastic bike thanks for getting back and stay safe 🇬🇧👍🏻
Jason Reyes . I think the 98 R1 in Red/White is going to be one of the most sought after bikes for the next ten + years , it will be the next LC 250 /350 . What’s not to like ? It was the fastest, lightest and most powerful bike of its time and its like an LC it’s instantly recognisable . My advice is if you can find an original UK , not stolen recovered or Cat C and under 10,000 miles BUY IT ! Good luck 😉

She beautiful.. lovely bike
What would you expect to pay for that bike in todays market
Being first registered in the U.K. in red /white with very low mileage around £9,500-£10,500
How much you want for it?
Try asking me when I’m over 50 , lost my hair and struggle to move it . Shit !
@@runesika Haha!! You know i was joking. Seems impossible to come across one of these.

@@runesika Awesome bike man. Appreciate this video. Enjoy!!
it could do with a clean?
I feel I must apologise for it’s disgraceful presentation, I’ll open a fresh pack of microfibre cloths immediately and start again .
@@runesika hehe no i meant you saying it needed a clean was funny as it looks spotless 8) .. enjoyed the video 8)
Jason Hall I just had another listen, I think I said "it’s super clean " it’s my carrot cruncher accent .
