To be honest I think it’s South Carolina. I Think if they can win this weekend, they move up to 12. And if the committee wants the best 12 or 11 teams rn, Carolina is definitely one of them. They should get in over Bama because bama might have the worst 2 losses of a contender of all time.
The thing about this year’s rankings is that we keep saying “oh they shouldn’t be ranked that high” which I totally understand for a lot of teams but the competition is so much closer this year than it has been years prior. We are expecting the gap between the top 5 and the teams ranked 10-15 to be much larger but honestly we have seen just about every team in the top 25 have huge wins and then terrible losses. When so many teams have had such bad losses, they kinda cancel out and less rank dropping happens
A real crazy scenario would be what you described with Colorado being ousted by Tulane but in addition UNLV wins out and upsets Boise convincingly in the championship. UNLV currently at #22 has a good chance of getting the nod
It’s dumb that for a few teams here making it to the conference championship and losing is a worse thing than not making it. Not at all how that should work
I mean if it’s consistent(and it always has) it makes sense. It has always been said by the committee it’s better to lose early than late. If you make were if you make conference championship it’s a automatic bid that’s already 10 teams out of 12, it’s already the 5 highest conference champs are in with top 4 getting byes

At their best Ole Miss is a top 5 team. Problem is they’ve screwed themselves out of a playoff spot by losing 3 games they should have won which is hilarious because they went all in this year
Boise state is nearly undefeated, only lost to the number one team again, which they comfortably would have one because everyone man Ashton, except for two lucky kick and punt returns for scores, and Ashton could continue, dragging his team to raise to the national championship. Some thing that Travis Hunter failed to do, and could not do because if you watch the film of Ashton he is clearly the best.

That’s a common misconception caused by the media, the power 4 conferences are the best and will usually win. HOWEVER, the rules state the 5 highest ranked conference champions, no bias for a power four conference, just any conference champion
Lets not get it twisted the original setting was 6 champs and 6 at large, so obviously the focus is for all "power champs to make it". Monetarily this obviously the way they would want it to go. And I think if the 12 team existed historically this would be in the rules, since historically your "power champs" would consistently be out of the playoffs (if basic logic was applied). The reason the CFP is coy about this, is because you cant technically use the words "power 4 champ" vs "G5 champion" as these teams all exist within the same league and using these terms gives credence to very significant lawsuits in 2002-2004 and 2009-2012 - which btw were federal lawsuits in congress against the league for felony corruption, fraud and anti-trust - so not fking around type stuff......
