I know 2 people who had the VW 2 liter turbo fail because a timing chain tensioner failed, then the timing chain skipped, resulting in major engine damage.
My understanding is that VW's being reliable cars with "superior german engineering" is an absolute fallacy. You may as well buy a Ford or Chevy for that kind of reliability. The resale value is just as poor anyway.
@@palebeachbum I'm from germany and i tell you, never buy a car from VW. They are cheap made but overprized sold. But they got rank 1 on ervery magazine. It's insane! Get a Ford, or any other brand, but not this peace of stuff. VW owns over 10 original brands, like Audi or Skoda. All of them got rekket by the VW quality standarts.
So you buy a corolla hatch instead of vw golf r? Yeah? Lol, nah you can't replace or compare these two brands for any reason, I would buy a honda hatchback SE 1.5 Mt instead of tsi these are somewhat comparable both hatches similar power. Type r vs golf r also somewhat similar
@@mauriciomedina2629 I mean that's untrue, I think even the most hardcore brand enthusiast can admit Toyota Is at the top for reliability, they just don't really make anything exciting.
Truth is I haven’t encountered any comment saying, actually confessing, that the initial and main root of the subsequent faults occurring in the contemporary VWs, BMWs and great amount of all other brands, is actually the poor, poor, absolutely poor quality of materials they use. They long ago forgot to use the good old safety factor of 3 in order to drive your car 30 years peacefully. When this all change-well, when we all realize that we are living in and feeding a junk economy system. I hope I boiled down to the the main Issue why we all get crazily surprised upon the fact that a 50 k euros car has an engine light after the first year of production!
I think there's a big difference for vw cars between the US and Europe. VW cars sold in the US are unreliable whereas the ones sold in Europe are one of the most reliable cars you can find on the market
Actually that seems not such a bad idea. When there are this problems even after 1600 km, chances are there will be more or they will never be gone completely. A collegue had a VW Passat and as long as I knew the car, I drove with him to work every morning, there was either the controllight for the motor control on or worse. Because of the light he had it several times at the workshop and they never found any error. So he just didn't care about it anymore. The best or worse was, that on some day in winter, the parking brake seemed stuck. So he hit the gas and we barely made it to work the morning. Some other day, it was a saturday, the car got slower and he had to flood the engine. We made a stop at a tankstation and the car would move anymore, even the parking brake was not enabled. So we called the ADAC, german Automobile club, which towed the car to a workshop. I continued to work with bus then. The next day he said they couldn't find an issue. So it seems that your VW is not the only one with problems and I surely wouldn't buy a Volkswagen for myself after these experiences. German cars are not so good anymore as the have been, sadly. :-/
Fuck this sounds so much like my Passat. It drank 15(!!!) liters of oil this year and several of coolant, but they can't find any fault. Absolutely shit cars
1ch0 damn that’s bad dude, my father has owned 3 vw polos 2013 model year 2016 model year And a 2019 model year. They’ve been flawless except in the winter the 2016 and 2013 models used to leak in the windscreen. I hope your friend gets a new car or a refund or something.
William van Gils and you think a single example is enough to prove that? I have driven a golf R for 25000 kilometers and whipped the shit out of it and never had a single problem.
*Dieselgate 1st anniversary: all diesel car brands in Europe are even more polluting than Volkswagen - study* As Dieselgate turns one year old, a new study by Transport & Environment (T&E) reveals that Volkswagen is currently selling the least polluting (Euro 6) diesel vehicles. Nonetheless, the marque caught cheating in the US also has the most grossly polluting Euro 5 vehicles on the road, which were sold between 2011 and 2015. The better performance of Volkswagen Euro 6 cars has nothing to do with the Dieselgate, but with better technology choices made before the scandal burst. The report Dieselgate: Who? What? How? also found that not one single brand complies with the latest air pollution limits (‘Euro 6’) for diesel cars and vans in real-world driving T&E analysed emissions test data from around 230 diesel car models. Data were taken from the investigations conducted by the British, French and German governments, as well as a large public database. The carmakers’ ranking was built with on-road performance figures mostly measured in real world driving. The key findings per car brand are: Fiat and Suzuki diesel cars on average pollute 15 times more than the legal NOx limit; Renault-Nissan vehicles exceed the limit more than 14 times; General Motors’ brands Opel/Vauxhall pollute 10 times more while Volkswagen diesel cars pollute twice as much as the Euro 6 standard. Greg Archer, clean vehicles director at T&E, said: _“One year after the US caught Volkswagen cheating, all carmakers keep selling grossly polluting diesel cars with the connivance of European governments. The automotive industry has captured its regulators, and European countries must now stand up for their citizens and stop this scandalous cover up. Only a recall of all harmful diesel cars will clean up our air and restore credibility in Europe’s legal system.”_ *29 million 'dirty' diesel cars and vans driving on Europe's roads today* T&E’s calculations also show that today 29 million diesel cars and vans are driving on Europe’s roads that we classify as ‘dirty’, meaning that, for Euro 5 cars, they are at least 3 times over the relevant NOx limit. Only one in four diesel vehicles registered since 2011 achieve these modest thresholds. These vehicles were approved for sale by national type approval authorities, mainly in Germany, France, the UK, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The largest number of ‘dirty’ diesels is found on French roads (5.5 million), followed by Germany (5,3 million), the UK (4,3 million), Italy (3,1 million), Spain (1,9 million) and Belgium (1,4 million). _"The true scandal of Dieselgate in Europe is national regulators turning a blind eye to the glaring evidence of test cheating with the sole purpose of protecting their national carmakers or their own business. This is killing tens of thousands of people annually. We need a European watchdog to stop EU member states protecting their national champions and to ensure the single market for vehicles operates in the interests of all citizens,”_ Greg Archer said. Cheating on environmental regulation is not a victimless crime. This causes premature deaths. The World Health Organisation has described worsening air pollution levels as a “public health emergency”. Last year, the European Environment Agency said that NO2, mainly created by diesel engines in urban areas, is responsible for an estimated 72,000 premature deaths in Europe. The majority of NO2-related premature deaths occur in Italy (21,600); 14, 100 in the UK; Germany (10,400); 7,700 in France; Spain (5,900) and 2,300 in Belgium.
jariol little gremlins, I drive a Honda, no problems ever. According to Freedom of Information request story by a UK car magazine, for each recorded fault for a new Honda within the first year, there were 370 for VW. The data was adjusted for like for like sales. VW/Audi/Skoda had 180 per 1 against Ford. People mistakenly believe German made cars are reliable. BUT the most unreliable motors are Range Rovers.
kevnev007 Hmmm okay I am aware Japanese cars are generally more bullet proof. My wife's 02 Honda Oddesy had a major transmission issue which dealer quoted $5500 for repair after the car was 6 years old. But after contacting Honda they sent a brand new transmission and paid for all repairs. Even though it was out of warranty. But here's the thing. The car was boring. As is the case with most Japanese cars sold in the United States. There are few very few exceptions
so what super exciting non-Japanese minivan do you drive now lol the thrilling Dodge Caravan? the pulse pounding Chrysler Pacifica? the edge-of-your-seat Kia Sedona? hope you got extra wide all-season tires to put the power down to the ground :D
shoryukenpower Hey the van was good but replaced in 2012. My wife got a Fiat Abarth. Got it for under $21k no trade in out the door. Sold the Honda for $7200. Does that answer your question?
I owned a Golf. Nothing but problems since brand new. Major electrical problems. My buddy owned a Passat, MAJOR problems. It seemed like his Passat was at the dealer every 2 weeks. Talked to a mechanic that used to work at a vw dealership. His advice was.... stay away from vw products. Major money pits.
I bought a 2015 GLI SEL and my blind spot monitoring and rear park sensors was doing the same thing. The technician connected to my car and found that they were not properly "turned on" from the factory. 10 minutes later they options to turn them on showed up in my MFD. It has been a great car thus far.
Dude buy a Japanese car, Toyota just announced that its gonna launch toyota connected strategy in its upcoming models which sidelined Google and Apple!

it makes sense as a non existant component will never fail more a design is complicated, more are the chances that there is a failure Ferdinand Porsche understood it with the developpement of the bug and later the 356 model... these models were legendary reliable
Nailed it! I was thinking of that while watching. Give me the basics and good handling and I'm alright. I saw the technology packed into the current 7 series and while amazing, I thought to myself "this is just too much". It's a lounge on wheels. If I was inclined to go this route I'd just import one of those Japanese luxo minivans.
I have 2015 Audi S1 (also with the 2.0 TFSI engine and 6 speed manual gearbox), zero issues whatsoever.... also because I order it with zero gadgets .... don't need it, don't want it, less hassles to be without it.
Mine is about 2 month old, 5000km + on it, still no problem, car is still stock and still a blast to drive, feel sorry for you, hopefully you wont have issue anymore, at least you have a good warranty on it. good luck
Notice how many comments are from people who have had either ZERO problems or hardly any. Why is that? Because they are great cars. I own two Golf R's...both highly modified and both have been completely reliable so far.
Have your owned VWs before? I like the new Golf 1.8 TSI and hopefully it will be more reliable than my 2012 Ford Focus with the awful powershift transmission.
That transmission in the Focus is the single biggest ball kick Ford has had in years. They should've never put that thing in the cars. I have an ST and its awesome.
Lane Morrow The 1-2 shift lurches and bucks all the time if you don't floor the throttle, let alone the clutch grinding and chatter (which Ford Canada doesn't think is a problem - "the transmission has a slight shudder") when ascending hills if you don't hit the throttle and have the transmission shift down. If all I did was highway driving, the PowerShift would be great! It's all the non-transmission problems that have failed with this car: horn failure (poor design that allowed water to pool and corrode the wiring!), tie rod breakage (a 2013 TSB makes reference to that), driver's door module failure, which caused the auto/up down on the driver's window to work intermittently, clutch pack replaced, and transmission control module failure. Ford Canada acknowledged the problems and offered compensation. Ford Canada even replaced a lot of the hardware in the rear Control Blade suspension because it was making noise. I'd sell this car if a) there wasn't negative equity with my loan and b) it's so much fun to drive, more composed and less kidney-rattling than my old Mazda3
+runforit420 They're good cars VWs but make sure to service em regularly at regular mileage intervals. Also try to avoid the DSG transmission and buy the manual. The DSG may be cool and all but have a much shorter lifespan compared to the regular manual. VWs are solid cars as long as you treat em right And comply with it's servicing intervals.
1001speedster that's completely fine. I service all my cars according to the maintenance schedules and I baby all my cars. I've heard a lot about VWs and pricey fluids for even conventional automatic transmission fluids. I'm fine using VW fluid, but not if the fluid flush is 5x the cost of a regular hydraulic auto trans flush for, let's say, a Cruze or the four speed automatic Toyota Corolla. Basically all I know about VW and servicing is that the rumour is that EVERY service according the log book is going to be more expensive than a comparable service for a North American or Japanese compact/small family car. One of my buddies has a Golf leased and he really likes it - it's much better than his Matrix.
I only will do leasing new cars myself. I don't want to buy a car anymore. After a few years, mostly after waranty is over, the shit with issues begins to start. I don't want to use a car that long. And leasing is not that expensive if you don't necessarily need a premium car..
Get on Yelp, search for auto broker and go based on recent reviews. Not that 'Yelp Sort' garbage. Did a credit check. We decided on what vehicle we wanted and yes we went to some random dealer to test drive it. Told the Broker what we wanted, down was $1000 which covered his fee, all of the Taxes, Title, License, etc. fees and the 1st months payment. Vehicle was delivered to my house from a local dealer, looked it over, sign the usual paperwork and that's it. I never even met the Broker I used. Just talked on the phone & via email. Be sure you know how many miles you drive per year. Don't lease 12K when you drive 15K. It's cheaper to pay up front. Only lease for 36 months. If you don't go over on miles you will be under warranty for the entire lease. When month 35 comes up and you don't have an extra vehicle lease again. I sold my previous lease '12 Pilot EX-L 2WD and sold it to Carmax and made about $2100. ONLY sell a vehicle to a dealer on a weekday. The dealer / Carmax / Autonation / Etc. must hear the manufacture say what the Payoff Amount is. Logging into the website isn't going to cut it. If you sell to a dealer no taxes are involved. If you sell private party someone has to pay the sales taxes on the Payoff Amount. Yes you also avoid the 3rd party vehicle inspection when selling to a dealer.
Vlican if your financially prepared for the unreliability then it doesn’t serve as an important issue. It’s nothing new that German cars cost a lot more to maintain.
Check your State's Lemon Law, many will force dealer to take the car back if problem persists or there are too many problems to fix in a certain amount of time.
Did they improve the gas burning issue? My 2013 burns about 1/4 of oil every 1000 miles. The VW Dealer said thats within tolerable limits. My 2010 BMW went a whole year without an oil change and still didn't point a quart of oil. I'm disappointed in the Germans Engineering.
All North American R's are built in Wolfsburg. Mine must've just had a bad batch of parts put into it. That or it's because it's an early build 2017...
that was a long time ago. assembly is in Wolfburg, yes. but today a lot of parts are built in ex soviet countries. Still high quality, but to much hi tech in todays cars.
honestly my man, this is part of owning a modren car, so much shit on them now that there are to be a few issues before 60k km's. this does seem early for 4 injectors but i am sure VW will get ya fixed up
Yeah, I've heard of that before but just wanted to make sure what you mean. Just one more question about that, how much of a price drop do you get when you do that for a new car?
Well depends on the car value, my Cadillac was worth 15k, but they gave me 13k. I bought 2015 audi a5 which is 40k car. That 13k was basically my down payment on the car. That brings the car price down too 27-28k I would owe on it. The interest only added another 2k on top of that.
Yeah, he got VW GOLF. It's not a CAR it's carriage. I heard this guy said "I bough such a nice car". Forget it. This car is piece of plastic. Over years of using it, he will have more and more and more problems. This is just beginning. I suggest to buy older car like 10-15years higher lever, like luxury car or sports car higher series (Not VW.. they all plastics) and put the rest money to fix Engineering problems which that car have. Then you will have reliable car with fixed issues. This is the best advise what mechanic can give you. While that GOLF is under Warranty, he is lucky. When warranty ends, to fix plastic car will costs huge amounts.
Have you had the ECU remapped? In the UK they have injector faults with poor remaps/chips on the ECU where it floods and causes them to leak, run lean/rich too low fuel rail pressure, too high fuel rail pressure, causing catastrophic bangs, rods through the block etc.. just a thought
Your service records show you are using 5th Ave VW in Calgary. I'm in Calgary too. I have a 2012 GTI. Bought it used one year ago. 5th Ave VW is the cheapest dealer for service in Calgary, so I would prefer to take my car there if I they do good a good job. What's your experience with the service/repairs from them? Do you feel they are doing everything correctly?
They're fantastic. I know them, and they know me very well. Most of the staff know me by first and last name already. Service is excellent and they are honest and good people who I trust. At first, I was upset because I was under the impression they were trying to blow it off as normal, but that was my first visit when they didn't repair anything, my second visit when my light came back on, they dug deep into it and found issues. However, my engine light is back on and I have a service appointment for Monday, the 24th.
I think you meant to reply to the original poster. Re-post your comment "Add a public comment..." box below the video for the original poster to get it.
@Brandon Friesen "... Most of the staff know me by first and last name already. " Of course they will know you by first and last name... you own a VW... you go there A LOT! And it's not even funny, it's sad.
Hmm, Golf is the best selling car in Europe. People like toilets over here bro! www.best-selling-cars.com/europe/2015-full-year-europe-20-best-selling-car-models/
2016 Golf R lapiz blue, 6900 miles DSG built 01/2016, Zero issues and I mean nothing. Friend's 2016 Golf R pearl white, 5600 miles DSG Lane assit, built 06/2016, again ZERO issues! F'ing sweet ass machines!
Had a Golf R (2016), and it was perfect. Not a single problem or issue. At just over 13k miles I got t-boned (pass side--back door) by a kid who was drunk (3 times over the legal limit) in a civic blowing through a red light. Both cars totaled, but I, in my VW, was able to open the door and get out, and call for police and ambulance. Kid had to be payed out of his 2014 Civic (which it looked like he put an additional fifteen or twenty grand into, so he could be one of the cool kids) and was Care-Flited away. ...and yes, he survived, so I'm sure he'll be doing it again to someone else before long. The point is, kids buy Hondas and try souping them up and in the end can't sell them. Adults buy Golf R's and probably never go street racing. They appreciate the refinement of a german built car. A few glitches that are taken care of under warranty are certainly annoying, and usually you can work some kind of compensation, but adults understand. PS. New Golf R arrives second week of November.
I've had beamers and audis (so VW), it's honestly about even in terms of reliability. BMW keeps having the camshaft sensor issues after years, or issues with brand new pars in general, which is annoying, but service was great. With Audi, it's more the assembly of 3rd party manufactured parts that is crap (when they have the reputation of best built quality...). On my current 17 Q7, i had to re-assemble the 2nd row seats myself. Yes, you read correctly, I was too annoyed to go to the service place for what was an obvious fix, so i removed the seats and oh surprise, none of the clip-on plastic parts where actually clipped. Some one is not doing his job with quality control. I got my mum a toyota, (european versions), it just never dies. It's boringly eventless. Nothing, not even a dashboard light is wrong after 7 years: simple mechanical solutions, less fancy, more reliable. German: fancy, more complex, less reliable, get them on a lease.
+TM C Ehm dude......you live in the States with AMERICAN car brands and dare to call GERMAN cars unreliable, REALLY?? Maybe you should look in the mirror once or twice because except from Italian cars American cars are thé worst cars you can buy when it comes to reliability. Here in Europe, German cars are among the best apart from Asian cars. And yes, Volkswagen does have soms technical issues with the last few series but up untill the Gulf 5 they where solid, but that doesn't make a entire brand unreliable all of the sudden. Maybe it's because of your crappy roads!
notformebeaky first of all, German and Austria and Denmark are not Nordics. I am talking from my own experience and from what I've seen at work. I also always listen to what technicians say. In Sweden it's banned to use VW Passat with DSG as a taxi, because of the issues. I know it sounds funny, but You can dig the newspapers for that. Electronics start bugging because of the moist. In Australia it is the same thing, but because of the sand and heat.
This is the first I've seen this I own a MK7 Golf R 2016 stage 1 almost stage 2 APR with AWE Tuning edition CB exhaust And not one issue I have had with my whip yet.. love the car and it's built like a tank .. considering its act built in Wolfsburg Germany that says a lot about the quality .. You may have just got a lemon man sorry to hear that but your warranty will cover it #Salute #GolfRLife
what code is your check light for, sometimes new cars have problems because of defects in the manufacturing process. Although the dealer or company should fix it if you can diagnose it yourself you can tell the techs what to replace instead of having them fool around wasting time.
Sorry to hear that my friend! As a former VW driver, I recommend you stay away from anything from Germany! They are good looking and driving shit boxes! I happily switched back to Honda!
Hey there, Other than the problem you mentioned in the video, any other problems crept up? I notice you had the wiper sensitivity set to highest, assuming you have the rain sensor in your car, does it work as it should be? I had a MK7 GTI, and the rain sensor just doesn't work as it should be and I can't get the dealer to replace it since there is no fault code. I know it doesn't work because I have another VW with rain sensor and it behave completely different from the Golf. At least it works.
I'd rather keep my BMW 335i with its unreliability any day, over driving a soulless washing machine on wheels that's made in Japan!! I wouldn't want to be caught dead in a Camry lol My 335i has been good to me since I got it anyway, no complains and it's very fast :)
im sorry, but i never knew that the lexus lfa, rcf, isf, gsf, toyota 86, honda nsx, mitsubishi evo, subaru wrx/sti, honda civic/type r etc were soulless washing machines on wheels... they must be one heck of a washing machine!
Let's analyse your list: 1- Toyota 86 is garbage, it's gutless and makes no torque (driven one, it's a joke)! 2- Lexus RCF was a failed attempt to beat the BMW M4. 3- Lexus ISF was a failed attempt to beat the E90 M3/Merc C63 AMG. 4- Lexus GSF was a failed attempt to compete with the M5/ E63 AMG. 5- Evo, WRX/STI are decent to drive but they have crappy interiors with low quality plastics AND THEY RATTLE OVER BUMPS like no tomorrow, not to mention the terrible steering feedback being AWD! 6- Never driven the new turbo Civic Type R, but the older ones don't make any torque until the redline! Also, they're all FWD, not my cup of tea. Lexus LFA, Honda NSX are the only two cars I'd drive out of the list you mentioned, but I can't afford neither. So a classy 335i Coupe with proper RWD and a 3.0L TwinTurbo engine tuned to stage 2+ (400hp) makes the best all rounder package, that no Jap car on the market is offering atm (at least at this price range).
+brandon friesen what code is your check light for, sometimes new cars have problems because of defects in the manufacturing process. Although the dealer or company should fix it if you can diagnose it yourself you can tell the techs what to replace instead of having them fool around wasting time.

Honda is the way to go, really. I've had mine now for 9 years and just a little prob. the previous one lasted 7, again with no problems. Amazing manufacturer.
hi. i have a 2015 golf r mk 7. issues i have that maybe be careful of( has driven 33000 km so far) leaking coolant reservoir: being replaced. hoping the coolant isnt getting into the engine... cant explain why needing to top up the coolant as its a closed system leaking fuel filter causing raw fuel smell in cabin on start ups. bad rattle inside on the front dash between 2000-4000 rpm. issue is it takes 3 weeks to get csr into dealer. often dealer needs for a few days. they dont offer a replacement car so you are left with no car for a few days
Keep all the records. Had a 2013 GTI and it was in the shop 5 times in 10 months. They couldn't fix the issue. The car would just die on highway in traffic anywhere. Super dangerous. They tried to give me the run around and say they're fixing the issue but near the end they admitted they couldn't. VW Canada stepped in and tried to give me maintenance vouchers but I denied all of it. They eventually bought the car back off me. If it keeps happening give the car back and get another one. I love VW's but some are lemons.
Did you buy it or lease ? I have a '16 Gti on a lease, 2 months in and sunroof was leaking thru the rail (and it's been at the dealer now for 2 and a half weeks cause of a backorder) . I doubt I'll buy it, but seeing this makes me even more sad cause I wanted an R next...
It's a VW - an enthusiast's car - it's all par for the course as far as I have heard. If everything worked perfectly and you didn't have to think about anything, it would be boring, right? All this stuff you talk about adds to the charm and character of the car; part of it's personality as a finely tuned German car. As you say you love the car, it would be boring if it worked perfectly. :)
Getting far better in the last couple of years. See the long term GTI review in November Car and Driver. My 2016 has 3,500 Km and zero issues except I hate the clutch delay valve, will be gone when warranty expires
Its an idiotic thing that also BMW uses. Its ment to delay the engagement of the clutch if you drop the pedal, in order to protect the clutch. It also means its insanly difficult to drive the car smoothly, especially from first to second gear
WHAT A BUCH OF BITCH ASS CRY BABIES!!! MOST OF YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT CARS, ALL YOU KNOW IS WHAT YOU READ IN CAR&DRIVER LAST WEEK,AWWW SHUT DA FUCK UP!!! GET SUM REAL HUMAN FRIENDS(NEAR YOU) WITH VW'S & WORK IT OUT NOT GOOGLE IT&CALL IT A DAY!! WAKE UP BITCHES
IT'S IN CARS NOW DAYS FOR DUMB FUCKS THAT SHOULDN'T BE DRIVING A STICK,GO&GET A AUTOMATIC CAR STUPID!!! THE ONLY REASON IT'S THERE IS BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT BOUGHT A VW BUT SHOULD HAVE GOT A MIATA/MX-5 FOR YOU BITCH ASS FUCKERS!!
Just picked up my R yesterday bright blue I got the digital cockpit, it's amazing. Question for you,....today I used launch control in race mode I went through the gears 1,2,3,4...then I had to let off cuz I was doing 100mph but when I shifted into 2nd, and 3rd my front tires squealed , but the shift into 4th it didn't. Also the shifts were extremely hard, the car felt like it was leaping ahead with every shift. I was flabbergasted,...should my front tires be breaking traction with 4motion?
If they do "some mischievous programming so that you can make more and more trips to the dealer" then they will lose money on the car, because in the first 3-5 years they will be paying for every single hour VW technicians have to spend on it + any parts they replace, and it will quickly add up. Do enough of those trips to the dealer and the car is losing them money. I mean...this is some basic logic here.
The MK7 has tiny mirrors and huge B pillars on the 4 door. It actually does have a blind spot and you can bot eliminate it with the mirrors. I've almost sideswiped someone a couple times. They really need larger mirrors.
Did you purchase the vehicle outright or did you finance it? If they are saying they are going to replace the engine, with so little mileage on the clock, i would push for a replacement vehicle outright.
how much did u get your r for ? I m getting one in a few days . I don't want them to take advantage of me , just trying to gather some info from different golf r owner . thank u.
Volkswagen's cars were very good twenty years ago. I wouldn't touch one now. I have a problematic Passat which is very expensive to fix when it breaks. Which is frequently.
I feel your pain.. I had a ton of problems with my 2013 TDI.. first 3000km's was in the shop 4 times. Temp sensor 2 times. Coolant leak and check engine light for no reason. Then later down the road the big dieselgate. I decided to only buy used cars now and so far its been working out.
Only 70k on a 2012 Taurus SHO and already stretched timing chain, bad washer pump, 2 recalls, and faulty transmission. It's been in the shop 4 weeks in a row. I love my car and will keep it until it's paid off, but I will not buy another Ford after this.
I just don't understand why so many people keep on buying cars just for the badge instead of looking elsewhere to maybe a much more reliable companies with quite a lot to offer at a much better price. I.E. HONDA, MAZDA. Fantastic cars and believe me you won't be disappointed. I personally bought a Mazda 3 after having a VW before and I will never go back. Had it from 50,000 miles done 25.000 already without any faults. Is a 2.2 diesel engine at 150 bhp. Absolutely fantastic car, fully loaded, very economical and quite sporty as well. All services with dealer. Just a personal opinion.
Because nobody else offers anything remotely close to the Golf R. Discreet, practical, comfortable, good AWD, oh, and with only a software tune it'll make 357 horsepower. I bought a Mk6 GTI back in '12 and yes, it's been in the shop a few times. It's all been under warranty, even after my actual warranty expired. They gave me a loaner car for free each time. I will be trading the GTI for an R soon. But by all means, have 'fun' in your 150hp diesel. It won't die, but you might die of boredom!
I have a 2014 Passat which I bought used with 115K miles, POS. Within 10 minutes of leaving the dealer the oil sensor light came on. It’s been in the shop nearly every month for 5 months
same issues , had new spark plugs turned out they were the wrong ones , installed the old ones again, everything fine , 1 month later misfires when accelerating full throttle at bout 4000 rpm .... car keeps doing brrrrrrrrr out of exhaust and then i cant accelerate until i release the throttle fully or change gears..
That is a lemon. My mother had a VW Golf and it spent so much time in the shop she got them to give her a new one. I would never buy one. There is a guy with on youtube with a Porsche 911 991 that had nothing but electrical issues and he ended up getting a full refund. VAG cars either work well or not at all.
+Brandon Friesen Did you record it with your camera? I would surely do it, because of course the dealer will always say, come back when it ocucurs again. And bye bye.. That alone would fuck me up. ^^
"So far I am freakin loving this car" and it's been broken every other week....righhhhht. I would never buy a VW, ever...don't care how good the performance is. Everyone I know that has one has problems and say they would never have another one. I know there is some VW fan boys going to jump all over me for saying that but don't give a damn.
Wolf Predator, VW have exceptional quality from my experiences and anyone that I've ever talked to that has owned or driven a VW, they are capable of well over 100k miles and refuse to die. You can never ever put VW and unreliability together. Seriously! My uncle for example has had sooo many VW's all he drove very hard and all had well over 100k and lasted to almost 300k miles honestly!
Can you name one car that isn't capable of over 150,000kms these days?? Not really a benchmark is it. I just looked it up - even Kia are offering a 7yr warranty (unlimited kms) on their cars. Anyway, I drove the VW range (including the R) at a track day recently, completely overrated - we ended it wondering what all the hype has been about. Feels slow and heavy, AWD system performs pretty poorly when you turn off all the assists. I have seen a couple with a good tune and exhaust, but seriously, only 190kW stock. But moreover, it was boring to drive and uncomfortable.
The people you know that have a vw car are not a representative sample to draw any real predictive conclusions from (on average less than 20% of cars have reliability problems in the first 5 years, so if every one of your acquaintances have problems that only shows that it is not a good sample) . Also numbers show that reliability is more a factor of a specific model than of a specific brand.
Hey. I am a GTI owner and have had my 2011 since 2012. Had this issue a couple of times requiring new injectors as they become full of carbon and cause this rough running condition. About a $1000 job lasting about 2 years before it happens again. VW admitted this was a problem with older year GTIs especially
Yes, older cars are better built, we get it. But stop pretending your ownership of an old Toyota gives you some sort of licence to be snobby about it, because it just doesn't - you basically drive an arthritic old dishwasher. I guarantee you something will start to go wrong with it very soon at that age.
Unless you're driving a fully loaded LE, then you don't have side airbags or ABS, and my definitely don't have ESC. Arguably 3 of the biggest safety innovations in the last 20 years. You can't buy a car without ABS now, for good reason. I pray that your car reaches many more miles and you'll never need any of them.
but your 98 corolla doesn't tell you if there is someone behind you. How can you put up with all the looking at mirrors all the time? It's probably manual shifter too! :)
I have my Car for over one year (lease) and it still rocks. Put in economy and it just floats so nice. Put in Race mode and the car just go faster then an race prepped BMW M3 -02. He was so surprised, the little blue Golf was so fast. So I'm very happy with this car. Cheers
In the U.K. And Europe we are protected by consumer rights. So if my R had problem after problem I'd be able to return it for a full refund. Of course, I've had zero problems with my R and think the car is epic after 6months ownership. The only regret I have is not going for the sunroof, DCC and reverse camera
I'd say reverse camera is needed for reversing in complete darkness as the reverse lights suck on the EDM R. You can hardly see anything when light conditions are poor. I have to rely on my rear brake lights for better lighting in darkness
you are not protected by ANY rights whatsoever. As a proof, i can offer you all the VW buyers that received NO compensation over fraudulent behavior on behalf of VW.
George GL either you're lying or your examples don't know the law. See www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-buyers-guide/cbg_legalrights.html you get 30 days protection
These cars have shitty reliability. Sounds like you got a lemon. I would take your car back and demand another one. This thing is going to cost you a fortune once you start paying for repairs yourself. Ask me how I know.
Odin Odinmann I've owned a few VW's (Jetta GL, Golf) and they drove real nice when they worked. They did require repeated expensive repairs. Of course, the old beetles were bulletproof.
I actually agree with this. Not all new cars come defected, but with just a few kilometers and receiving technical issues, it's not a good sign. Possibly a lemon, but who would want to take that chance? It being that new, you can definitely trade it in for another, perhaps with equal or a little more miles on it, just for the sake of mental peace. Thank god I've had my VW CC up until now, with 62K miles on it and I haven't had a single issue with it. Running good as when I got it.
Bigice Some people buy new cars just to avoid the repairs of a used car. However they pay ~10k more. That's what I don´t get. Whats your opinion on :buying a good used car instead and then if your really don´t have time to do the wear parts replacements that stacked from the previous owner when they become due, you either just do them all in advance right when buying Or buy a shitty Reserve car for 1k as backup Orr just live with that you might need a cap one day.. ? I´ve only been driving for one year now. My experience so far is this: The previous owner neglected maintenance at the end before selling. So i had to do the Belts, Tires, Oil, the Brake caples and oil had to be redone one front thing at the axle and one pulley. All in all I paid ~3000-3200€ for a car that since I bought it hasn't failed me once, is 17 years old with when i bought 145tkm and now 157tkm.. okay also the PDC sensor system has a problem and I have not found a quality replacement part yet but thats not a 100% necessary thing for the car to work fine .. How does that compare to new? .. I think pretty good but I never owned a new one. My neigbours VW Gold is kinda new I think apart from tyres which are way cheaper, everything is near same costs. My car does 7,6l / 100 though on plus 30km trips and in city 9-11 depending on temperature and traffic. Only real advantages a new car has might just be that it has a modern Radio haha.. Safety of my old car must be either on par or better than the Small cheap new cars too. Has 6 Air bags and ASC. I get why people buy new cars but I never understand when they argue financial reasons for it.
I just bought a new 2016 Corsa OPC, even though i was looking at used cars, that were roughly the same price (2009 BMW 335i, 2010 Audi S3 etc..), and let me tell you why i chose to buy a new car for the same amount. -Sporty cars are more likely to be driven hard, so you have a bigger chance of getting a "roughed up" vehicle from the first owner. -If you buy a new car, you don't have to pay for anything that goes wrong, since it is in warranty, heck, you even get free insurance and a set of tyres, with most new cars. -Regarding safety.. NCAP road safety institute demands more from the car makers by the year, so while your car has 6 airbags and ABS, my 2016 car has 10x airbags and about 7 electronic stability and traction systems.. I guess i could go further, but i think i have expressed my opinion enough :)
Gašper Prijon Yeah i see you point with the warranty and all.. But if you bought a say 2003 BMW you´d have a bigger car for a fraction of the cost. .. ok so the warranty is actually quite convenient, how long is that usually? If you really wanted to save money though, you´d still be better of with an old car. I do believe that modern small cars like that Opel have come a long way in terms of safety, but its size limits the crash safety already so probably a 10-15 year older but much bigger car would be roughly the same in an accident.. Actually my car has 6 airbags, Abs and ASC.. Asc is electronic stability and it works extremely well.
I agree with the fact, that you spend way less money, when buying a used car, over a new one, if it is a regular car. However when you want to buy a sports car, you think twice, if you don't know the owner and exact history of a car. My car has a 2 year warranty on everything(except for the expendable parts, such as brakes, tires etc..), and a 5 year warranty on just the drivetrain, engine and transmission. About the old big car vs. small new car, i can only partially agree. I have seen some NCAP videos with 90's vans crashing with modern regular sized cars and the van took it better on the outside, but the injuries of the passengers were actually far worse, because it is not so much about the crushing zone of the car anymore, but about how the safety systems inside the car work..
Listen carefully. Before you buy a car. You research about the car. From what i know vw has reliability issues. Thats from owners from the net forums and also govt stats or recalls etc.. dont get me wrong i want a jeep grand cherokee too but after reading horrible issues with the car i dont dare buy one. Now the problem is you got people buying jeeps then later complain saying i have problems with the car. It gets repetitive. In this case a vw. Reliability issues start in production. I worked for toyota. What happens is you got new employees not experienced enough installing and connecting car parts and wiring in the assembly line. For example a new guy hired working for vw for 1 week only installs the wiring of lcd screens. He forgets or connects it wrong This then gets passed through q.a and handed down to you buyers. I would see it happen at toyota.
You lucky as VW fixed your issue. If this happened in another car and it can it may not have been fixed fast if at all. This video should be called VW warrranty works. Sometimes if a car has an issue it is apparent from the start because someone screwed up at the factory rather than a reliability issue. I know people with Fords etc who havent ever got their issues fixed and need to take it to government authorities to get resolution. I drive a VW Golf I broke my seat and my suspension and VW repaired it like new. The suspemsion was caused by the Bridstone Potenza as they are rock hard and the seat well a combination of weakness on the sparts wings and the wau I got in and out But VW fixed it no problem did a new wheel alignment and oil change free. I now run Continental 5P tyres which are more softer on bumps and get in the cra in a different manner not to sit on the wings. I love VW
While I understand you cashed out lot of money for Golf R, what would you then say for Lambo's and Ferrari's that set themselves on fire in the middle of the road while driving normally? Point I am making is, final price paid for the car is NOT a guarantee that your car is perfect. Usually people who step up from cheaper cars into more expensive cars expect that... that is not the case at all... What every buyer should do the research on is RELIABILITY! Consumer Reports is one resource, or if you like doing stuff on your own, go onto the Autotrader.com or Cars.com and start search specific models... as you search models and different years, trims and options you will notice where pricing is... for example, BEST to hold value among all LUX cars is Lexus... no brainer, Lexus / Toyota came in 1st and 2nd on the top list of most reliable cars by Consumer Report in 2016... For more updated list I have not checked lately but I would not be surprised if that was still the case.
Low quality bits? Lol What are you smoking. Ask any reviewer and they will say the interior is a class above. Its Audi level interior and infotainment system.
last jetta I bought new had major transmission issues 50 miles past the power train warranty... bastards are junk. the water pump kept dieing out. damn VWs use a plastic impeller... WTF!! Coming from a automotive engineering background with mostly tier 1s and tier 2s. I can tell you first hand, Gerrmans are the only ones that I know that over engineer everything and then use cheap quality material to make. but it looks pretty. LOL
trustgtr33 saids the guy who owns a japo nissan in which the brand has the worst reliability of all Japanese brands and is worst compared to vw according consumer report..........how ironic..........
my 88 mk 2 gti was bombproof, 05 gti looked good until interior switches started to melt and become sticky make the interior look hideous, hpfp cam lobe needs to be replaced every 20k km else screw whole darn engine, dsg issues, 2011 mk6 gti, heavy oil consumption due to poorly made piston rings, meccatronic issues, lousy support..darn and you want to listen to reviewers and read shit crap consumer report..yeah nissan been crappy lately but not the gtr..
I use to work for a vw garage, always makes me laugh when people mention reliability and German quality, what a load of sh##.
How it is that all VW haters use to work for 'VW garage' before?
@@spirokaci just like Louis rossman repairs Apple products. We know best.
this is why i buy Toyota now. took me 3 VWs to learn this...one of these brand new...i'm done with check engine machines.
All cars come with their issues probably will run into more with a Toyota.
@@Dirtxbc peace of mind is way bigger than a puny golf r or any kind of VW
@@mauriciomedina2629 mentally challenged blabbers
@@mauriciomedina2629 I mean that's untrue, I think even the most hardcore brand enthusiast can admit Toyota Is at the top for reliability, they just don't really make anything exciting.
People that praise German build quality have never owned a German made car built in recent years. After 2 BMWs I am sticking with the Japanese.
These cars are made in Mexico. It’s not German build quality whatsoever
That is because bmw is shit. VW isn't.
I hope I boiled down to the the main
Issue why we all get crazily surprised upon the fact that a 50 k euros car has an engine light after the first year of production!
Try buying a Nissan and that will destroy the stereotype that all Japanese cars are reliable
Consumer reports ranks vw as the most problematic cars ever.
I agree.
Hahahaha you think vw is problematic? Seriously? Have you ever tried owning a used BMW or audi. 🤣
You just fix it. Nbd that's it just fix the damn thing problem solved no need to make a 4 minute video just do it, not a big deal.
I think there's a big difference for vw cars between the US and Europe. VW cars sold in the US are unreliable whereas the ones sold in Europe are one of the most reliable cars you can find on the market
Agree I work on these cars because they break
@@Dirtxbc Audi is a VW
sell it before that warranty ends !
I got rid of my R because the engine rattled like a tractor's in the morning and it drank oil.
VW eats oil like a fat pig when it’s in Idle
1ch0 damn that’s bad dude, my father has owned 3 vw polos
2013 model year
2016 model year
And a 2019 model year.
They’ve been flawless except in the winter the 2016 and 2013 models used to leak in the windscreen.
I hope your friend gets a new car or a refund or something.
VW was plagued with electrical issues from as long I can remember, seems like nothin has changed.
William van Gils and you think a single example is enough to prove that? I have driven a golf R for 25000 kilometers and whipped the shit out of it and never had a single problem.
*Dieselgate 1st anniversary: all diesel car brands in Europe are even more polluting than Volkswagen - study*
As Dieselgate turns one year old, a new study by Transport & Environment (T&E) reveals that Volkswagen is currently selling the least polluting (Euro 6) diesel vehicles. What? How? also found that not one single brand complies with the latest air pollution limits (‘Euro 6’) for diesel cars and vans in real-world driving
T&E analysed emissions test data from around 230 diesel car models.
Only a recall of all harmful diesel cars will clean up our air and restore credibility in Europe’s legal system.”_
*29 million 'dirty' diesel cars and vans driving on Europe's roads today*
T&E’s calculations also show that today 29 million diesel cars and vans are driving on Europe’s roads that we classify as ‘dirty’, meaning that, for Euro 5 cars, they are at least 3 times over the relevant NOx limit.
I've had 5 VWs they always have these little gremlins. Golf R pretty pricey but still a VW maybe don't feed it after 10pm
hahaha
jariol little gremlins, I drive a Honda, no problems ever.
There are few very few exceptions
so what super exciting non-Japanese minivan do you drive now lol

shoryukenpower Hey the van was good but replaced in 2012.
I have no problems with blind spot monitor sensor on my Golf mk II 1987 GTD. :)
The more modern cars become, the more I desire old school ones. It's all electronic components' fault.

the most reliable gadget in existance is the one you don't have.....
I remember this every time I shop for a car ....
How can a non existent gadget be reliable? Makes zero sense.
it makes sense as a non existant component will never fail
more a design is complicated, more are the chances that there is a failure
Ferdinand Porsche understood it with the developpement of the bug and later the 356 model... these models were legendary reliable
I have 2015 Audi S1 (also with the 2.0 TFSI engine and 6 speed manual gearbox), zero issues whatsoever.... also because I order it with zero gadgets .... don't need it, don't want it, less hassles to be without it.
zero gadgets on an audi S1? haha
Man, you've bought a 2017 car in 2016, and you're complaining that it's not finished yet? Jeez!
One of my buddies has a Golf leased and he really likes it - it's much better than his Matrix.
love the R, but VW hasn't sold me on their reliability... i'll never own these cars, probably lease
I only will do leasing new cars myself. I don't want to buy a car anymore. After a few years, mostly after waranty is over, the shit with issues begins to start. I don't want to use a car that long. And leasing is not that expensive if you don't necessarily need a premium car..
I agree, be sure to know how many miles you drive per year. It's cheaper to pay for the extra miles during the lease. Use a Broker as well.
Could you explain how to use a broker ? I am considering my 1st lease...but the fee's at each end of the lease seem a bit hard to swallow...
3:32 VW owners in a nutshell
Yep. Or from another perspective: Everybody get's what he/she deserves. If you like eating shit, you'll surely find someone who will feed it to ya.
every new car has its problems, even from the most reliable brands. I am speaking from experience as i work in the industry.
Sorry but that's rubbish.
Shut up meg. take you german car lies somewhere else
That sucks dude! I have a 2016 GTI and it has been fantastic! Hopefully it is smoother from here.
Wonder what the repair costs would be outside of warranty given the number of problems found when brand new.
Check your State's Lemon Law, many will force dealer to take the car back if problem persists or there are too many problems to fix in a certain amount of time.
Canada has no lemon law.
Lol, and Canada's government is better than the us....ok
What else would You expect from VW?!?
I have 31,000 on my 2015 DSG and not one problem!
Where was your R built? Mine was in built in Wolfsburg, which gives me great confidence. I've had no problems whatsoever, and just love the car.
All North American R's are built in Wolfsburg. Mine must've just had a bad batch of parts put into it. That or it's because it's an early build 2017...
you dope,it doesnt matter where its built, there is always issues in all cars, bad part human error,do you believe the germans are perfect, wake up
However VW's Golfs for example are built mostly on the robotic MQB platform, which really leaves as small room as possible for human error...
Based on history the quality of workmanship that comes out of Germany is superior, if not better, then most countries. I think that speaks for itself.
that was a long time ago. assembly is in Wolfburg, yes. but today a lot of parts are built in ex soviet countries. Still high quality, but to much hi tech in todays cars.
honestly my man, this is part of owning a modren car, so much shit on them now that there are to be a few issues before 60k km's. this does seem early for 4 injectors but i am sure VW will get ya fixed up
Kevin Rogers that's very early.. my cadillac cts injectors went out at 120,000 miles once I got it replaced I traded the car in
Cornelius King what do you mean by "traded the car in"? I'm just curious.
Yes i got another car lol. When you go to a car dealership you trade your old car in for a new car..lol
That really sucks. You got a new car with so many problems.
Blame the Germans!! They are Masters of Over Engineered Money Pits. 😂😂😂
I have a VW GTI MK7 and its also not perfect.
got a mk 7 gt the electronic handbrake does a lot of problems
love the car but vw is bullshit
not even helping me
JET997u I have driven lots of cars, and VW cars are the ones which have broken down all the time
Have you had the ECU remapped?
Of course they will know you by first and last name... you own a VW... you go there A LOT!
And it's not even funny, it's sad.
Frank White I go there for sales and parts too so no, it's a good thing they know me. Ups the customer experience.
Hmm, Golf is the best selling car in Europe. People like toilets over here bro! www.best-selling-cars.com/europe/2015-full-year-europe-20-best-selling-car-models/
28000 km on my Golf. No issues. Amazing car.
But will it reach 200,000 without falling apart
2016 Golf R lapiz blue, 6900 miles DSG built 01/2016, Zero issues and I mean nothing.
Friend's 2016 Golf R pearl white, 5600 miles DSG Lane assit, built 06/2016, again ZERO issues! F'ing sweet ass machines!
Did u break in the engine first before u step hard on it?
as a german and VW/AUDI owner for over 2 decades i can say taht i´m so happy that i switched to KIA/Hyundai a few years ago !!
Jajajaja 😂
Ewww Kia 🤢🤢
kubanskiloewe enjoy
Would you rather have the issues out of warranty? Thanks for the video.
Have you changed oil after changing new injectors? Because if fuel was leaking to cylinders, it could have reached car engine oil.
The problem is that you got a VW
My GTI is fine.
My Tiguan is Fine
You`re so funny - I already owned five different VW Golf models in my past (Series I - V ) , and I`ve never been disappointed
German: fancy, more complex, less reliable, get them on a lease.
malakius you have the problem
WTF were you expecting ??? It's a German CAR!!!
You two are idiots.
+notformebeaky Exactly. And good point about the fuel, i totally forgot that one.
notformebeaky it depends on the climate. German cars are terribly unreliable in moist and cold climate.
notformebeaky first of all, German and Austria and Denmark are not Nordics.
Even Audi ?
@@Anonymous-mu5bl Audi is even more complicated than VW. You will need to deal with more electronic problems compare to its cheaper cousin.
@@avsarrr I have an Audi A3 Quattro 2020 s line so far so good love it so far the Quattro in snow a amazing and it’s under warranty for 4 years
Hey there, Other than the problem you mentioned in the video, any other problems crept up? I notice you had the wiper sensitivity set to highest, assuming you have the rain sensor in your car, does it work as it should be?
I had a MK7 GTI, and the rain sensor just doesn't work as it should be and I can't get the dealer to replace it since there is no fault code. I know it doesn't work because I have another VW with rain sensor and it behave completely different from the Golf. At least it works.
get a japanese or even american car. they are more reliable than this germans cars.
complete bullshit.
I'd rather keep my BMW 335i with its unreliability any day, over driving a soulless washing machine on wheels that's made in Japan!!
I wouldn't want to be caught dead in a Camry lol
My 335i has been good to me since I got it anyway, no complains and it's very fast :)
im sorry, but i never knew that the lexus lfa, rcf, isf, gsf, toyota 86, honda nsx, mitsubishi evo, subaru wrx/sti, honda civic/type r etc were soulless washing machines on wheels... they must be one heck of a washing machine!
the best washing machine on wheels known to man
Let's analyse your list:
1- Toyota 86 is garbage, it's gutless and makes no torque (driven one, it's a joke)!
I am picking my 7R up tomorrow.
@brandonfriesen
what code is your check light for, sometimes new cars have problems because of defects in the manufacturing process. Although the dealer or company should fix it if you can diagnose it yourself you can tell the techs what to replace instead of having them fool around wasting time.
Honda is the way to go, really.
I've had mine now for 9 years and just a little prob. the previous one lasted 7, again with no problems.
Amazing manufacturer.
Ricer? omg!
Ricer because he drove a honda? You look like the ricer here.
i have a honda motorcycle...but honda cars are straight up boring. unfortunately. because as you said, they're very reliable...just not fun/exciting.
hi. i have a 2015 golf r mk 7. issues i have that maybe be careful of( has driven 33000 km so far)
leaking coolant reservoir: being replaced. hoping the coolant isnt getting into the engine... cant explain why needing to top up the coolant as its a closed system
leaking fuel filter causing raw fuel smell in cabin on start ups.
bad rattle inside on the front dash between 2000-4000 rpm.
issue is it takes 3 weeks to get csr into dealer. often dealer needs for a few days. they dont offer a replacement car so you are left with no car for a few days
TassieLorenzo When you’re paying good money for a car, you expect it to be reliable at least for the first few years
Why didn't you choose the DSG-version? :-( Greetings from Brunswick near WOB.
Sorry to hear. That's annoying. But VW is not great for reliability. High quality, but poor reliability.
Getting far better in the last couple of years. See the long term GTI review in November Car and Driver. My 2016 has 3,500 Km and zero issues except I hate the clutch delay valve, will be gone when warranty expires
What's the clutch delay valve?
Problem happens to any car brands or makes.
yeah especially brands under vag group
Neal Archer..hmm.. but Tesla S just scored pretty low on reliability score in the US? As far as I remember no. 25 out of 29?
Not true I'm afraid
elementalshift How about Toyota killer?
not lexus
People with VWs always know a good mechanic. People with Japanese cars take them to the nearest quick lube place. There is a reason for this.
It's a Lemon Car - Probably Volkswagen did some mischievous programming so that you can make more and more trips to the dealer.
VW is paying for all of those repairs under warranty, so it makes no sense - they made themselves spend more money?
Seriously? I mean, are you seriously that stupid?
Geer - Car companies gain from naive people like you. The more un-knowledgeable you are the more they like you.
Search for Lemon cars in TH-cam. And watch the documentary. End of discussion. And keep your logic to yourself.
I dont have an R. Its 1.4TSi 2013 and havent had a single problem since i bought it.
You probably got a Mexican unit. There may be a burrito in the manifold
I thought Golf Rs were still made in Germany?
Hahahhahahahahahha
😂😂
Burritos don't exist in Mexico
Fucking racist!
That's a huge bummer. Had issues with my new Mini 2 weeks after I got it (recall, then the service guys messed up the thermostat)
Set your side mirrors correctly and you won't need the blind spot monitoring. Sorry about your car though.
i have a 2016 passat and love it, WHAT HE SAID!!!!!! back up cameras blind spot cameras park assist......... blah blah, who needs that crap?????
I have a passive blind spot system, blind spot mirrors... lol!
Blindspots in most cars are jokes, if you do any over the shoulder check you can see everything.
The MK7 has tiny mirrors and huge B pillars on the 4 door. It actually does have a blind spot and you can bot eliminate it with the mirrors. I've almost sideswiped someone a couple times. They really need larger mirrors.
CWK1998 and rear end the car in front of you if it brakes while your checking. Always use blindspot mirrors.
Did you purchase the vehicle outright or did you finance it? If they are saying they are going to replace the engine, with so little mileage on the clock, i would push for a replacement vehicle outright.
it's modern German car dude! they have no reliability.
how much did u get your r for ? I m getting one in a few days . I don't want them to take advantage of me , just trying to gather some info from different golf r owner . thank u.
You bought a VW. Were you really surprised? I mean... really?
nca124 my friend drove past a brand new Golf the other day that had caught fire
vw makes some of the best cars dude vw makes bmw and audi and many more!
MRsjovealek Your Opinion dude vw makes fantastic cars
Not a sensor problem think's there's something wrong with the engine etc.?
Volkswagen's cars were very good twenty years ago. I wouldn't touch one now. I have a problematic Passat which is very expensive to fix when it breaks. Which is frequently.
Are you from the UK ?
I feel your pain.. I had a ton of problems with my 2013 TDI.. first 3000km's was in the shop 4 times. Temp sensor 2 times. Coolant leak and check engine light for no reason. Then later down the road the big dieselgate. I decided to only buy used cars now and so far its been working out.
golf R. all built in germany. i have had 2 of these. great car!
is this a wide spread issue?
Ford ST or Ford RS!! Only way to go folks. Power .. technology & reliability!
Ford and reliability? I like the Focus RS but the interior and reliability probably are the best on ford.
Only 70k on a 2012 Taurus SHO and already stretched timing chain, bad washer pump, 2 recalls, and faulty transmission. It's been in the shop 4 weeks in a row. I love my car and will keep it until it's paid off, but I will not buy another Ford after this.
David Klimmek Fords are reliable here in the Uk, the fiesta and focus are the top sellers here, surely they must be doing something right
uhh big problems.
Who made the injectors?
It won't die, but you might die of boredom!
the car still on warranty , right ?
It reminds me of the troubles I had, change the dealer or get a BMW or a Benz
Explain how BMW engine's ''self destruct''
Irv. GI. This is what I did. I sold my vw and bought a bmw and it is sooo good
Vadim Don what bmw you got
Had a VW 2012 TDI - 53,000 miles now - no issues. Buying a 2017 R in a few weeks. Took it for a test drive - just amazing.
1st time I have ever heard problems with a Golf R new and old.
Probably a one off!
I have a 2014 Passat which I bought used with 115K miles, POS. Within 10 minutes of leaving the dealer the oil sensor light came on. It’s been in the shop nearly every month for 5 months
I just wonder how VW are doing their quality testing, it's like the consumers are doing the testing for them however VW are nice vehicle to drive.
same issues , had new spark plugs turned out they were the wrong ones , installed the old ones again, everything fine , 1 month later misfires when accelerating full throttle at bout 4000 rpm .... car keeps doing brrrrrrrrr out of exhaust and then i cant accelerate until i release the throttle fully or change gears..
Steve McGill Every VW I have owned has had issues. My 2017 golf has never worked properly, the fuel flap keeps opening, suspension creaks
+Brandon Friesen
Did you record it with your camera?
Right on queue
Can you name one car that isn't capable of over 150,000kms these days?? Not really a benchmark is it. I just looked it up - even Kia are offering a 7yr warranty (unlimited kms) on their cars. Anyway, I drove the VW range (including the R) at a track day recently, completely overrated - we ended it wondering what all the hype has been about. Feels slow and heavy, AWD system performs pretty poorly when you turn off all the assists. I have seen a couple with a good tune and exhaust, but seriously, only 190kW stock. But moreover, it was boring to drive and uncomfortable.
haha that is fcked up hahaha
Hmmm.... I'll stick with my 98 Corolla that has 200,000 plus miles on it and has not got wrong in 18 years and is still going strong.
Mark Sölveland yeah, but you drive a 98 corolla. lol
Yes, older cars are better built, we get it. But stop pretending your ownership of an old Toyota gives you some sort of licence to be snobby about it, because it just doesn't - you basically drive an arthritic old dishwasher. I guarantee you something will start to go wrong with it very soon at that age.
Lol I thought my comment would have got more abuse than that
Unless you're driving a fully loaded LE, then you don't have side airbags or ABS, and my definitely don't have ESC.
I have my Car for over
one year (lease) and it still rocks.
Maybe they know the problem vehicles out of the factory and shipping those overseas.
you are not protected by ANY rights whatsoever. As a proof, i can offer you all the VW buyers that received NO compensation over fraudulent behavior on behalf of VW.
George GL either you're lying or your examples don't know the law. See www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-buyers-guide/cbg_legalrights.html you get 30 days protection
Ive got a 2012 gli MT with no mechanical issues at 130,000 miles. I hope it stays like that...
I hope
These cars have shitty reliability. Sounds like you got a lemon. I would take your car back and demand another one. This thing is going to cost you a fortune once you start paying for repairs yourself. Ask me how I know.
How you know?
Odin Odinmann he knows a guy who knows a guy
Odin Odinmann I've owned a few VW's (Jetta GL, Golf) and they drove real nice when they worked. They did require repeated expensive repairs. Of course, the old beetles were bulletproof.
There is no way they are just going to give you another one.
Why do you need blind spot monitoring?
proof that new cars wont save you any trouble compared to old ones
exactly. been saying this for years. having both new and old simultaneously.
I am German, and i'd never buy a VW. Its about morals... i'd rather get a Ford, or hell, even a Fiat.
SuperGeronimo999 Ford Europe is a German car I think ?
Tom Jardine no lol
SuperGeronimo999 not like those are better options.....
I heard the 2017 model will be built in Mexico, is this true?
expensive and nice to look at but low quality bits inside..
American Jettas are made cheaply for the US market. The Mk7 Golf lineup is anything but "cheap" feeling inside.
my 88 mk 2 gti was bombproof, 05 gti looked good until interior switches started to melt and become sticky make the interior look hideous, hpfp cam lobe needs to be replaced every 20k km else screw whole darn engine, dsg issues, 2011 mk6 gti, heavy oil consumption due to poorly made piston rings, meccatronic issues, lousy support..darn and you want to listen to reviewers and read shit crap consumer report..yeah nissan been crappy lately but not the gtr..
atleast its covered under warranty right
