Also, it does hit the c4-a6 diagonal which is not the most useful because most moves will focus on the kingside. on Bd3, that bishop is mainly functioning as a pawn. if it were me playing, I would've considered Be2 or g3 Bg2- this allows the potential at some point to go on the kingside and prepare for black's light-side bishop to go Bg4 and pin the knight. With the bishop on e2, that pin lacks sting. Finally, consider how MC played in this game. That bishop was almost completely worthless on d3 and didn't even really participate in the defense until much too late. disclaimer - I am around 2150-2300 on lichess depending on how focused I am on my games/well-rested.

Playing 10 good moves isn't hard. 20-30 is another story. I think it's really hard even for someone like Magnus to checkmate someone that has a basic understanding of chess in only 10 moves.

What is there to NOT like about Magnus? Very cool guy, willing to play anybody was almost unheard of just a few short years ago. I noticed Nakamura has been doing the same for a while now.
It's great when you're world champion and have no reason to be humble - you are the best there is, and still you have a sense of humour and can be humble. He lets the game do his talking for him and is nice socially. I know there have been times when he's been a bit snappy with the press, but no-one gets hurt. The press are used to it and sometimes provoke it.
Now i want to appreciate the oppponent's cleverness.... he knew that magnus would accept his challenge and he also knew that he would certainly get defeated.....not a new thing for magnus though... lmao
So humble playing 1500 player and deeply analysing the position and being so serious about it, egoless people like Magnus always rise to the top because ego blocks one from becoming truly skillful.

I know more about Jiu Jitsu than Chess but the one similarity I can see with it is that the true greats win with patience, accuracy and comfortability. Meaning, they are not anxious waiting in temporarily stalled positions, as well as the ability to move quickly without mistakes. I'm pretty novice at chess but Magnus reminds me of a guy called Roger Gracie who was a jiujitsu champion and was famous for his patient, slow build style and strong fundamental game. He is considered the best competitive jiu jitsu player ever, and it was all due to calm patience, fundamentals and accuracy.

From what I could tell, from earlier on he said he was looking to capitalize on the king side from very early in the game.he didn’t want to give up the outpost he has on f4 just for a trade when he can easily line the queen on g7 on that open file, which will give him a lot of time to execute his ideas in the game. It just shows how far ahead he is, he’s thinking about the end of the game basically after the opening sequence. He has studied all the lines and remembers them. It’s not easy
Chess isn't about following rules, it's about winning (well and having fun). And it makes sense, that knight is strong as hell in that position, whilst the bishop is doing nothing
Don't get too hung up on the "value" of pieces. A well-placed bishop can be worth more than a rook and there are plenty of locked positions where a knight is more valuable than a bishop. In fact a knight is sometimes more useful in the endgame than a bishop since your opponent may be able to put his pawns on the other coloured squares. That having been said, two bishops in the endgame is certainly very strong.
He only took that username, because he knew Magnus wouldn‘t be able to resist the temptation of accepting the challenge, very smartly done indeed.
