Im looking to change the coolant for the same reason in my 16 superb with the same engine, did this method turn out ok to bleed the coolant correctly? I’ve heard they have a complex system of 2 or more circuits and water pumps? How much coolant drained out of the system also? Cheers, Lee.
@Lee Murtagh Sorry lad for the late reply 😔 Yes, I've heard and read that there's a proper way to bleed tbh with ya and in short yes, my method worked as the car is driving away fine. Can't tell ya how much coolant came out as lost count due to flushing etc. and had to flush many times to get it clean before pouring new coolant. The VW fella said it takes 6-7 litres and it nearly took more. Now a bit of advice or the lesson I learnt anyway and I hope will help people: Don't flush until you absolutely HAVE TO. I had ta because the coolant was gone all bad (probably a mix of different coolant types). And if you just want to change coolant per the service, you can just drain as much as possible in the first go as I showed and top up (~2-3l), job done, add more if goes low. No need to worry too much about bleeding and shit. If doing a full flush, drain as much as possible, add as much coolant as possible drive as much as possible and then flush 😁, will be expensive bit at least won't be adding water etc. Into the system.
A problem with this is that I cant buy G12 evo concentrate. If you flush with water, you need to use some concentrate to get the right dilution with the plain water in the engine block. Also VW dealer near me said my model Passat was "about 10 litres" but this is just a random guy from the workshop, not the manual.
Sorry for the late reply - I've heard people having trouble getting certain coolants but I would say go with whatever the latest they have available as that should be backwards compatible to some extent. And regarding the capacity, I would definitely go with the manual or try and get the dealer to properly check in their system. Best of luck 👍🏾
Thanks for the video. Just by adding the distilled water to the tank it will get down the the radiator without doing anything to make it go through the system ?
No problem 😁 Oh no, that's not correct at all. You're meant to use Distilled water for flushing because it's easier on the system as compared to tap water which is more corrosive once it gets hot. It won't help with getting the water/coolant down to the radiator. I hope that helps 👍🏾
Thanks, glad it helped! Coolant pressure when hot would be around 14psi ± a few.. Don't quote me on that as it's just something I researched. Out of curiosity, why you're looking for the coolant pressure?
Hello, do you mean you drain the whole coolant through those two hoses at the top? Arent we supposed to unplug a hose at the most bottom part of the radiator? I have been to the mechanic today and wanted to change from g13 to g12evo but he managed to drain only 2 litres from the most bottom part of the radiator. Then we ran the car for 2-3 min but nothing more came out. Please advise if you could. Thank you.
Hey, I do recall doing a lot of research on this at the time which I don't remember precisely so you might have to do some research as well. But I do know that coolant would stay in the system until the thermostat opens up or something to do with the AC. The official way which a mechanic should do this by using a coolant pressure filler of some sort...
I'm quite sure on VW of this year that you MUST use a special tool from VW to add the coolant by a vacuum device attached to the expansion tank..If you do not bleed it with a scan tool, you will get an engine code!!!
I do agree that the proper way would be with a pressurized coolant transfer tool but even with this method (not ideal), it still worked fine. I had introduced some air into the system that took a couple of careful runs and topups to clear out but no issues or codes were experienced.
@@russsterns2656 yeah it must be so. I do have a good obd2 scanner too which I should have played with more at the time. Does it activate the water pumps or something once you start the coolant bleed function? VW ... Yeah why like why? 😂

@faliray4889 Honestly, this wasn't my car but my buddies and I know from talking to him, it was pretty solid. I drove it and drove pretty well, unlike old diesels. I'm driving a 08 BMW E61 520D (2L TD) since last November and it has been pretty good so far other than a few minor bits that I tackled myself. Diesels won't beat the 5 Cylinder Turbos in drive and sound but great for long distance drives with good economy. Depends on your use case. Let us know how you go. 👍🏾👍🏾
Oh yeah the space is pretty good I must say for what they are. You can always do with a bit more but I'd easily say they're higher than the plastic ones you get. The only thing I have noticed is that you have to get someone to hold them down in place if you get a rear wheel drive car on them, as they can move over. That probably goes with all ramps...

I did keep getting low coolant warnings.. for a time after refitting... No leaks anywhere..inspite of the coolant being low.. new expansion tank on now.. and all seems ok.. never got any over heat on the gauge prior to work and after.. but I did pull the pipes on the bulk head side trying to flush.. after ..the return pipe would not seal at all.. have it sealed now after cutting it off and replaced with some elbow pipe... Tip if your messing around with those clips tie some fishing line on before you put them back.. they can go flying and be lost.... Skoda superb 2016
Boaring....talking talking kills the viewer dude
Agreed mate - I do realize this but sometimes explaining a bit does help a person doing a job for the 1st time. But again I do appreciate the feedback and I'm working on it 🙂 Some of the newer videos you'll notice I'm trying to do less talking 😅
@@noorshah96 ..less talk is less information… keep talking.

@@lukeodonnell721 Thanks, my Man - of course not, specially after looking at the spelling of boring 😁 But yeah, I do try and talk less in general 😂
