The song that introduced In Flames to me, I will never forget this! Even if I am not a huge fan of theirs I must admit that this album, Whoracle, is a great one!
I don't disagree with the fact that the sound has been mixed a bit post-production, but I'll say one thing: I've seen them play live 4 times, and their sound live is impeccable-you can record without remixing and it'll still be album-quality. It takes knowledge and skill to do that, not many bands do.
I honestly haven't liked anything they've put out after Clayman, but this is my favorite In Flames song. My old band almost got to open for them for 1 show in San Francisco a long time ago, but Killswitch Engaged ended up NOT dropping out of the tour. That would have been bad ass opening for In Flames and Dark Tranquillity.
All you guys just take this into consideration: you have NO idea what it's like to be artists...don't put on the white wig, don't say they "died" at ANY point. They are putting out records, some people like the earlier stuff, some people really like their newer stuff...at the end of the day, they're in flames, and IN FLAMES WE TRUST! Forever and ever....we're listening to them...they aren't listening to us...
@krelna For the intro, Bjorn plays the first lead part, jesper plays the short part right after it. It is obviously hard for you, because you don't know that. Ok, look at 0:21. Thats jesper playing his lead part. You hear him play it at the end as well, but it shows him playing the rhythm instead. Its not Bjorn playing it because you can hear the guitar sound change after his lead part! It was edited in before they released the DVD. Listen to other live versions of Jotun and work it out.
Bjorn is playing the lead before 3:19, then you hear jesper play the lead after, but the video shows jesper playing the rhythm. Bjorn definitely wasn't playing the lead either because you could hear the guitar sound change after he finished his lead at 3:19. Shenanigans, it was probably edited in after the show.
@DerNuLz If you listen to other live shows, its jespers part. And thats not a pickup change. Checkout Jespers solo for food for the gods at this show, it should be somewhere on youtube. Jespers solo doesn't match up with what is shown.
if people dont like their new stuff oh well..i love all their material!!!! best band ever IMO! and to be fair..in flames was established as a project 4 Jesper to try out the material he couldnt play in ceremonial oath as they werent open to change..where as IF was from the word go!
I love In Flames, but honestly...songs from the older albums, should be performed the right way. Which is in lows. This is one of my fave in flames song, and it was epic, but Anders has ruined it here by doing his new style of highs, and not his lows.
@xReinhartx He did them just fine in F(r)iend on the Used and Abused DVD, which I have. And, he should be able to...the fact that he can't shows he is only a mediocre vocalist by talent.
i think they died for real after come clarity. At least SOME of their stuff after clayman as good. Have you heard their new album? it's like emo shit man!
The best moshpit I have ver been into was in an In flames concert. I love them. Although its true that their best music is in their older albums, I still enjoy the new ones. Whoracle 4 ever. In flames we trust.
I'm going to guess that the reason Anders changed his lyrical style is because he's older and not as angsty as he was in his younger days and his voice probably can't handle a constant growl. Even if you use the "right" techniques, growling and screaming kills your voice - just more slowly than if you're doing it wrong. He's been in the business at least 12 years, and they toured a SHIT ton... so his voice probably isnt what it used to be. IF's still badass.
The way people talk about In Flames selling out generally makes me sick as hell! The day you can go up there and perform like they do, the day you have a band and every thing do, the day your into the whole music thing, you can talk about what selling out is. if you think you can write a song, just near as good as their new stuff, go ahead: enlighten me. In Flames are musical gods, and in the musical gods In Flames we trust! Keeping it metal in denmark! \m/
regardless, you won't ever see them play this again, just saw them on april 30, 2008. The oldest songs they played were graveland and only for the weak. however, the show was still really amazing. anders has a much better voice than it sounds like on youtube. and as a matter of fact, when they played graveland the bass was really overpowering and i couldn't even tell that thats what they were playing until like 1/2 way through
Almost every live recording has been working in the studio a bit. Sorry to break it to you but most bands do that to clean up the sound, take out the audience, perhaps add a track, etc. I mean some songs from this DVD sound like some parts were added in the studio... HOWEVER USED AND ABUSED IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST LIVE DVDS EVER!
yes they are changing. funeral sorrow death man- stop cutting your wrists and enjoy their new shit, its just different. they dont want to be bored and play the same stuff over and over, they explore. and as for the mtv bash. yes they have popularity, becuase they are fucking talented. sorry if Other people like it too. no one here on TH-cam was their first groupie, get over it.
...? They're not Gods nor anything close. They made good albums (2 of them actually JR and Whoracle) and started playing mainstream music. I bet they can't go drink a coffee or get a donut at a local place in Sweden without getting tons of people annoying them to get a picture or an autograpth, sad as fk...
i think reroute to remain and soundtrack to your escape do have other good songs too like free fall, cloud connected, reroute to remain, my sweet shadow, borders and shading (but i don't like the video to this song, it has nothing to do with music), Dial 595 escape these ain't the only ones and this is my opinion, don't wanna force someone to like them
@higefather Grammys and guides from allmusic are worthless within the world of metal. Whoracle and Jester Race are undeniably their best two albums, and Colony and Clayman are undeniably their 3rd and 4th best. Then it's a fair gap between those and the following albums.
no doubt come on in flames is right. what the fuck happened to these guys . saw em live didnt even play anthing off whoracle, or colony so who gives a fuck!?! other guitarist with the beard should fuckin turn up his guitar, the best riff at the very end off the song was silent as fuck
In Flames playing death metal? I thought that era had passed!?! :) they should be forced to watch themselves in a mirror as they perform so that they can see how much better they are when they play the material from 1993-2001. Now that would really be the mirror's truth!
wrong. nothing will ever beat the genious, legendary, insane, amazing, sound that in flames had on the first 4,5 albums. nothing else gives me the feeling listening to them that their old shit does. the new shit is listenable, and tolerable i guess, but nothing like the old shit.
YA! I'm going to the gigantour too, Quebec city on 28 april! I'm going mostly for Children of Bodom i'm a fucking big fan.. Also for in flames.. I don't like megadeth so much but it's gonna be kick ass so i can't miss it! Job for a Cowboy and High on fire are not so bad too =)
Bad guitar tone, simplified arrangements and way less melodicism? Yeah, that's garbage. Dark Tranquility on the other hand, managed to maintain their credibility and produce quality melodic death metal. In Flames crashed and burned.
Naw dude, they still play plenty of their old stuff. Why the hell wouldn't they? They just don't wanna go back to their roots when it comes to recording music, not playing live. Seeing them Tuesday, can't fucking wait!
Are you serious?... My god. I think I'm going to die at their show. That's such a disappointment. I love old In Flames. Their new stuff is okay, but... you'd think Anders could try to pull for a few more of them.
Kremtlol, you dont know what the hell you're talking about. In Flames was one of the bands to pioneer melodic death metal along with bands like Dark Tranquility. I wouldnt say creating your own genre is "going mainstream" >_>
It can only be a live because it's not the same as the album version, and moreover it has the sound of a live. The reason the sound is good is that they have money and they can afford good instruments.
You really can't blame him. That is extremely strenuous on your chords and what not. I mean, sure, there are "correct" ways to do it, but maybe he's just been doing it wrong. Nothing he can do about it.
for alot of the old songs including this and moonshield for instance, jesper played lead. i dont believe bjorn played lead for the jester race AND whoracle? i think he was still on drums until colony?
the one who looks like the lead singer from coheed and cambria is Björn not Jesper.... its really sad that youve been listening to them for 5 years and you get them mixed up.....
They've been kick as up to say Clayman, after that they've been a little bit bland. It's still greta, but nothing beats the old material. This is one of my favourite IF songs! \m/
Did anyone else catch that they missed the melodic riff/solo at about 1:30? I think Jesper and Bjorn got confused over who was gonna take it or something. Still sounds badass.
that's horrible. i loved him when he was more himself, saying in interviews shit like " i have absolutely no comments ", and, " it was really cool ", and that whole modest aura about him.
i admit its just not the same, I like the lower pitched growling more myself. still, in flames is still top in my books, almost all of their stuff is really good in my opinion anyway..
@cj397 Did I ever say that I won something? My point was you got upset over some guys opinion on the internet, while calling that person a loser. Bit hypocritical ain't it?
Anders sais "I OFTEN DREAM OF HUGE NUMB BAGELS!" its supposed to be b"buildings". it sais it in the booklet. and he sounds like he says "bagels" in the actual song too HAHA
discover me like emptiness awesome song their new album sense of purpose not so good unless you are depressed but hey compared to other bands it is still pretty good
Can anyone who read this comment can tell me who he understands the lyrics? I'm just curious, becouse it's quite hard metaphor for me, and I love lyrics at Whoracle ;)
he doesn't have a alcohol problem. he has pretty much figured out.haha. But seriously alcohol has destroyed many people. It can bring down the greatest of us.
I tottaly agree with you man. They just saved "Reroute to remain" with Trigger amd "Soundtrack to your escape" with The quiet place. But nothing more than this...
i don't know, i usually dont focus on the entire lyrics but more like single lines combined with the melody create an image in my head...it's hard to explain
Well I still think they are amazing...i guess i dont know what i wanted you to say, I dunno why i got so worked up its your opinion I dont care...anymore
Add to the fact that they'd need a third guitarist to produce the same sound they do in the studio considering most songs have 4 or 5 guitars going on.
I think everyone is saying that because Bjorn does the leads on most of the new material. I still consider them both lead and rhythm guitarists though.
Omg I wished I would've been there. Jotun is one of the best IF songs ever.
That moment when the live version is actually superior to the studio version.
That was great. *~*
100%
And this maybe least performed of all song!
The song that introduced In Flames to me, I will never forget this! Even if I am not a huge fan of theirs I must admit that this album, Whoracle, is a great one!
I also got intro to In Flames by this song!
I don't disagree with the fact that the sound has been mixed a bit post-production, but I'll say one thing: I've seen them play live 4 times, and their sound live is impeccable-you can record without remixing and it'll still be album-quality. It takes knowledge and skill to do that, not many bands do.
One of the best metal songs ever made.
I fuckin love that overdrive on bass guitar
Well, I really like the feel they had back then. The guitars were in tune, and Anders sounded amazing, but hey, to each their own ^_^
I honestly haven't liked anything they've put out after Clayman, but this is my favorite In Flames song.
My old band almost got to open for them for 1 show in San Francisco a long time ago, but Killswitch Engaged ended up NOT dropping out of the tour. That would have been bad ass opening for In Flames and Dark Tranquillity.

One of their best songs
what I like about this live version is that I can hear the bass strings. and its knocking really hard
In my top 5 of all In Flames songs. They're so good!
@krelna For the intro, Bjorn plays the first lead part, jesper plays the short part right after it. It is obviously hard for you, because you don't know that. Ok, look at 0:21. I hope that they will play this live tonight!
Ahhh patience is a virtue.
That bass tone is nasty
@krelna Bjorn plays the intro lead, then jesper plays the short lead at the end of the intro
if people dont like their new stuff oh well..i love all their material!!!! best band ever IMO! and to be fair..in flames was established as a project 4 Jesper to try out the material he couldnt play in ceremonial oath as they werent open to change..where as IF was from the word go!

This is my favorite In Flames song. The intro is orgasmic.
@xReinhartx He did them just fine in F(r)iend on the Used and Abused DVD, which I have. And, he should be able to...the fact that he can't shows he is only a mediocre vocalist by talent.
0:16 "beszarok"
i think they died for real after come clarity. At least SOME of their stuff after clayman as good. Have you heard their new album? it's like emo shit man!
@sugessad That is your opinion. In my opinion he was an excellent vocalist on the older albums. He had a very unique sound.
@EKAA25 Yes I understand that you don't know the difference of the words objective and subjective. Go back to the basement.
Awesome how they redid the song in their newer style, When was this?
I love all of In Flames' music though, new or old.
He fucked up his throat I think. He can still do low growls (see f(r)iend live) But I believe it hurts him too much.
In Flames we Trust
Greece
yes man! you right. ha can low growls, not continual. i wish he can be "old Anders" but it's too late :(
The best moshpit I have ver been into was in an In flames concert. I love them. Although its true that their best music is in their older albums, I still enjoy the new ones.
Whoracle 4 ever. In flames we trust.
go listen to the cd then, dont expect a live show to sound like a CD cause that will never happen.
@markusjaa Not ander... Jesper left the band because of his drinking. His on a rehab.
I'm going to guess that the reason Anders changed his lyrical style is because he's older and not as angsty as he was in his younger days and his voice probably can't handle a constant growl. Even if you use the "right" techniques, growling and screaming kills your voice - just more slowly than if you're doing it wrong. he doesn't have a alcohol problem. he has pretty much figured out.haha. But seriously alcohol has destroyed many people. It can bring down the greatest of us.

too loud i think? i could hear it alot more than the recorded version
Actually it doesn't matter if they are heavy now or not, thing is it's not making quality music like they did on those 2 albums, like it or not.
'''too bad they won't play it because they are sellouts. '''
this is 2007 ,,not 1997..they are no sellouts..ps: There new stuff fucking rules!
@InsanityIsNormality He never was a good vocalist. In time he just became the voice of In Flames, and IF wouldn't be the same without him.
@malticdesign
the whole band made an amazing performance, nothing close to what it came out to be the Tokyo Showdown record thank god
in flames are sick
new stuff is sick but the old stuff is just more melodic
and is it me or does the bass in this song sound weird?
dont try to sound witty and smart, and think your cool because you psycho analyzed the word i used to say music. aren't you original.
@EKAA25 Also died after singer's sex change operation and hair change to rastafari style. These gay screams are just unbearable.
nope they are not dead.
I think niklas englin gives them new impulses.
they will never die.
IN FLAMES WE TRUST VON GERMANY!
Gonna see them on 6 next month in Warsaw.
Oh fuck, Flames's gig with polish fans of metal, this will be fuckin' awesome! :D
Please do not compare Jester Race or Whoracle to everything else they've put out after, there is no comparison, not even close.
Sounds like him? not at all. the korn singer sounds like he's crying out words.
anders is a true metal screamer/growler.
@sugessad i like how in the internet people feel they "win" something if they anger the other person. i stated a fact.
the last 10 seconds is cut off :/ on my In Live We Trust CD it has it xD
cool vid but.
In Flames we Trust - Australia.
haha great song, but i think they both assumed the other would do the solo so neither played it. bjorn was laughing...
why would you wish that ??and i asked it because we've a diehard in metal fan in class and he says so that why i ask
This Friday Now!!!! I cant fuckin wait man. its at the docks too which is a fuckin awsome venue for sound quality!!!
What happened to the solo at 1:24? :o One of my favourite solos, very badass melody on it. Why didn't they play it?
honestly I love in flames but they aren't very good here. Satyricon and Behemoth are one of the best bands live.
"Jotun" is a foreshadowing of the main concepts where a society is crushed and broken after an apocalyptic event.
@EKAA25
Huh? Come Clarity was pretty damn good, sure it was no Clayman or Colony but still right up there.
@jheat16 : I think he does a decent vocal job on this song. The song itself is absolutely amazing of course.
They don't ever play their old stuff live anymore, do they? If they do I'm off to see them asap, anywhere...
ehh i wouldn't call it growling.its more low pitched than other screams, but it's nothing like the jester race
what mainstream are you referring to? mainstream metal? or mainstream music? (otherwise known as shit music)
fuck I wanna go see them live asap if any one knows were I can get tickets to a UK show plz message me =]
Well i just saw an in flames concert, Jesper looks so damn sad compared to when hes playing older songs..
lol no, his guitar got cut off, technical problems. you can see him playing it, but you cant hear anything
I'm swede and I think he says "Nästa dag" witch means the next day but... that sounds of out context :P
one of the guitarists looks like the lead singer out of coheed and cambria
(sorry i dont no the names
Why can't they be good like this anymore?
Why have they produced nothing but garbage the last 7 years?
