    It took me awhile, and I watched and re-winded a couple of times, but I finally got what you meant about "sewing binding from the back." I have struggled with binding looking really good like yours, especially the miters. Your method of leaving that 1/4" batting, pressing the binding after application, and binding from the back gives that excellent result.

      Oh Sue, am I really glad to hear that you had some results that made you happy! I will continue to share binding tips in the future, thank you for watching!

    I do the flat side of the clip just like you do but I'm happy to hear a pro does it cuz I'm an advanced beginner not all knowing.

    Wow...great hand binding video! It's so relaxing to watch but I lovingly dislike doing it myself.😄 When I hand sew I like to work on a cross stitch project.
    Thanks for sharing this 3-part series. It's been nice to see the project come together.

      I am so glad to hear your feedback, I wasn't sure if this camera angle was going to work ok, and I didn't want to bore anyone with my chicken noodles dinner stories lol Thanks for watching!

    Excellent videos! I agree! I think starched bindings are tough to stitch.

      I love to bind with bias binding, it just flows right where you want it and makes the process faster! Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the great video! I couldn’t help but laugh when you said I hate starched binding, only bc I know Kimberly sends you all those starched bindings lol

    Wonderful! A hand binding video 😊😜
    Love the mishap about pulling the thread out, that's so real life🤗😂!
    Nice bag your friend made. Did she have a pattern for that or video tutorial? She should...😉

    What specifically do you like about Lori Holt’s needles? I appreciate your video…I hand bind all my quilts but use a double thread. Im going to try your single thread method on my next one. Thanks for the video.

    • @GinaTellThreadGraffiti
      @GinaTellThreadGraffiti  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Debbie, I used a double thread for years too, but I didn't like that the thread was so visible, so I went down to just one strand. It feels a little skinny to hold at first, but once I got the hang of working with a thinner strand I love the look much better. I like the needles because they are sharp, but not super pointy and they seem to push through more smoothly, plus they are pretty inexpensive to try. I also like that 3 sizes come in one tube so I can switch for different projects if I need to. Sometimes I used the bigger ones if I am doing thicker binding like pillows with more batting. I linked them below in the description box. Thanks for the comment!!

    Thanks for a great 3 part series. Your hand binding set off light bulbs for me. I've been binding a quilt and it has been my nemesis..I could not seem to get a "groove". What is it about the Lori Holt needles that you like over others? Just curious. I've used her cross stitch tapestry needles, but not the binding ones. Maybe I need to give them a try.
    Your chicken, noodle and pea recipe sounds AMAZING. Can you possibly share the recipe? Really enjoying your videos...can't wait to see what you do next.

      Hi Joanna, I am so glad the tutorial helped, binding can be tricky so I will continue to do others to talk about things that I run into during binding. The Lori Holt needles are pretty inexpensive if you want to give them a try, I linked them below. I like that they are sharp but not too sharp so they glide through the fabric nicely, and they bend well, plus the different sizes in one tube helps so you can try and see what you like. Thanks for watching!

    I love binding quilts too!! What are your thoughts on starching the backing fabric if you starched the quilt top? Is it necessary? All 3 videos are great! Thank you!

    • @GinaTellThreadGraffiti
      @GinaTellThreadGraffiti  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rhonda, I see a lot of quilts that come through here that had starched tops but no starch on the backing, and I think that is just fine if it is for your home, or a gift for a family or friend. I do not think the shrinking is going to make finished washed quilt look bad. However, if you were making a quilt strictly for a show and planned to have it judged then I would probably do all of the components the same. Thanks for watching!

    So do you hand bind a king size quilt as well?? Love this project, beautiful colors. Love the quilt pattern, I am only able to do straight lines at the moment. I have an older JUKI that has some kind of long arm attachments, but I don't know how to use either. tfs

    • @GinaTellThreadGraffiti
      @GinaTellThreadGraffiti  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I hand bind pretty much all quilts. I do machine binding on pillows and TShirt quilts and some I know will be heavily used, but mostly hand binding. I plan to do some beginner quilting on stand machines in the future!
