You really should re-word the title of this video. It is very deceptive. I'm telling you rather than reporting it-- that is one of the violations that can be reported. The current title implies this is about one incident in which a new scientific discovery is made. Rather, it is actually 15 different stories about Everest.

To answer the question, I actively trained and tried to raise the money to Climb Everest In 1980, but the other members of my group were avid Triathletes, with body fat levels of about 6%, and refused to deviate from that level, so I declined to lead them. The “Death Zone” is mentioned over and over in the narration, without explanation, so I will explain. Once you get to a certain altitude, the human body can no longer absorb nutrition from ANY KIND OF FOOD!!! Even intravenous nutrition cannot be metabolized, and the body MUST burn fat for energy. That is the Death Zone, and it’s boundary is different for every individual. It begins at about 16,000 feet for unacclimatized people, but no one can metabolize nutrients above about 22,000 feet. So, you can rest in the Death Zone, but you cannot heal from an injury, and every moment you spend there your body is eating itself, and you will starve to death eventually. The lower your percentage of body fat, the quicker you die. It’s that simple.

dude..the death zone refers to oxygen pressure being too low for human survival without supplementary oxygen...agreed to be around 26,000 feet...if you cant breath you die...it has NOTHING to do with food ........except if you cant breath you probably cant chew and swallow...

He failed to mention the reason the Sherpa’s attacked. It was because after a earthquake or landslide, some of those climbers pillaged a village that was hit by the earthquake. And it was the female climber who stopped it.

Krakauer’s book differs markedly from his Outside Magazine article published immediately after the climb, and partially written during the climb. Mountain Guide Anatoli Boukriev’s book, The Climb, tells a somewhat different story, as do other significant members of the party, as will happen any time a group of people are traumatized by a tragic event seen from different perspectives. And, yes, I know that recent editions of Anatoli’s book spell his last name differently, and had to alter the title to avoid copyright difficulties after his death on K2.

It's not really enigmatic, it's simply hypoxia, with an addled brain due to low oxygen, the same thing often happens to people who are dying, they see family members near or see images of those who have died some time before, or there is an unknown person who is visible to them; it's not at all unusual in a low-oxygen situation.

WRONG! Mr Wilson was using a way of keeping the core body temp warmer. My late husband did the same every year in hunting season. ☺️

It's not a well known fact that silk stockings are very warm in cold weather. In the early 20th century if you did not have any good cold weather gear for your legs at least, then men often borrowed the wives silk stockings to help keep warm. Strange? Yes, but they worked. Quite often causing them to repeat it again when they were going back out into the cold. It's not well advertised, as men in silk stockings was not something that they wanted known. But many hunters of the time knew of it, and some people actually used them. But only during cold winter hunting trips! Am I advocating this nowadays? No, it's just food for thought!

Rather thorough documentary. 2-changes might improve it: This statement doesn't seem to mean what the commentator means: "...leaving a mystery as dense as the mountain air." The problem? High elevation air is not dense. The gas particles are far apart.
The other problem is that speaking of events on Earth prior to keeping records cannot be proven. So, the wording needs to include the idea that "Scientists believe..." instead of words like "It happened..." Fossils found on the mountain could be a result of a great flood prior to the mountain being particularly high up, etc..
