    A few years back I’d gotten a concussion on the Rugby pitch only to suffer another bc i played down symptoms and returned too soon (about 5 weeks). Thankfully they were both grade 1. Then 3 weeks later I was driving off campus and got broadsided on my drivers side. I didnt think I’d even hit my head that hard but my buddy said I was out cold for a couple minutes. The successive shots I took were cumulative, and probably the least hardest of them ended up a grade 4. That all happened between the beginning of Feb. and the end of March. I was never someone that dealt with clinical depression nor does anyone in my family. It wasn’t until my birthday around November of that year that the fog and depression started to lift and I even felt remotely like myself. I’d had to take a hiatus from school. I still get a little nervous when I think about how low I got.
    I can’t warn any of you younger guys enough, take concussions seriously!!And be patient while standing by your friends who are dealing with head a injury !!!!!

      I agree, and to emphasize something you mentioned I'll add this. Any head injury from a concussion to a stroke will ALWAYS then have a period of emotional roller coaster times and depression. Having depression after a head injury happens 100% of the time

      @@RonniePTexan Actually it doesn’t. I was on the mx track, fell off in front of another racer and he went over my back and got a bit of air off my helmet as he couldn’t avoid me, I fell right in front of him. I was out for about 2-3minutes and asking the same question, over and over and over for about 6 hours after. Have zero memory of the entire day up to the accident and at least 6-12hours after. Got checked out in emergency and thankfully was all ok apart from the serious concussion. Anyway, just here to let you know I’ve never in my life suffered from any form of depression, not when I had cancer twice and not from this concussion or either of the other 2 I’ve had.
      Where did you get this info about 100% of people getting depression after a concussion? Never heard anything like that before and I’m testament to the fact it’s not true at all. I’m very interested to see or read any evidence you have to the contrary.

      @@bobmorane2082 fair, I meant he's right that most of history is boiled down to story telling and that's where the benefit of history comes in. No one really benefits from knowing the date that this King was born or that Prince died. It's the overall story that's beneficial. It is important to try and stick to the facts as much as possible, but when we have such giant gaps in the historical narrations (especially early narrations like before 1000AD) it's better to focus on the big picture

    Ok, speaking as somsone who is in a PHD program and writing their masters diseration on concussions--most of the objective measures we have to diagnose concussions, up until the last 5 years are, are extremly poor (issues with realibility, but im not going to go into it). Recently, we have seen that with better use of objective measures, the average concussion seems to show symptoms for about 4-5 weeks, even when people say they are fine. For a more severe concussion, it may be closer to 8 weeks or even more before we see objective measures (think reaction time, for instance) return to baseline. If you have a mild concussion, and are retuning to any kind of training without giving yourself at least a months rest--you have not given yourself a chance to fully recover and are risking further injury (including Second Impact Syndrom).

  • @steffanofumo

    The thing is there is no accurate test for a concussion, it’s just listing off symptoms and then retroactively attributing to the head injury received, so you have situation where you could have a concussion but the symptoms are mild and ignored, or symptoms more severe and still ignored and not reported, a lot of athletes aren’t going to report crap for fear of not being able to compete.

    To be fair, it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility for her to have a sustained track record of being concussed when judokas are dumping each other on their heads repeatedly. It's like how wrestlers get concussed from accidental headbutts or from being dumped headfirst on the mat. In terms of diagnosing concussions, the medical community has only been taking brain trauma seriously after seeing the implications of CTE in college/NFL athletes. Guys were taking chair shots to the head in '90s pro wrestling when people didn't understand how damaging it was.

    I think what Ronda is alluding to is known as Post-Concussive syndrome. She likely had some form of concussion in her judo career and didn’t report symptoms, and her symptoms were likely “hide-able” from experts. She then proceeded to compete without proper treatment for a long time and essentially put her brain’s capacity to handle trauma at a deficit - let alone she likely had neurological deficits that were untraceable to the naked eye, but would have been caught during proper neurological baseline and post-injury testing. Concussion treatment and education and treatment protocols have made MASSIVE strides within competitive athletics, BUT not while Ronda was competing - UFC included.

    • @stonehorn4641
      @stonehorn4641 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Concussion protocol has been around since before Rhonda started fighting. Not before her Judo career obviously, amateur athletes are notoriously ignored healthwize. Professionals are not. NHL had early concussion protocol since the 90’s.

    Chael!
    My these dogs are dangerous and,in fact, my hands are so dangerous that if i move to suddenly and people get scared i could face all kinds of legal problems and I go to register my hands and it is going to be 100.00 and I can't believe it because I am fallowing the law to protect myself! I will be you in a no holds barred no rules battle to the death. Yes I'm talking a real-life kumete and if i win you pay to have my hands registered.

    Ronda quit because she saw the talent was getting better and her one trick style wasn't going to cut it anymore... my opinion of course 😁

    Ok she was concussed soooo many times. Well first THAT just isn't good, second was she, did she REPORT any? Was she reporting and ignored? Nobody even bothered to look at her? She not got a doctor? That " 3 time" and you're out yeah sounds unfair but how many? Concussions are ACCUMULATIVE from my understanding. To all you athletes , yes us savage fans want to see you beat the crap out of each other in...whatever match buuutttt NOBODY wants to see you end up like Ali and others. You give so much IN "the ring" . You deserve YOU time to enjoy...in my opinion, so anything that HELPS that happen, I'm for.

    Rhonda is always making excuses, her coaches and the press pumped her head up, we all watched when it happened, I get it Rhonda is pretty blah blah, so if I cant trust the words of historian's, then why would I believe Rhonda, who ducked every interview after her first loss & retired after her second loss. She even waited a decade, just to claim her losses wasn't her fault, & she is calling herself the 🐐 but refuses to back up those statments in the octogon. I would love to see a UFC panel wtih Rhonda, Holly, Amanda, & Chris Cyborg, I guarantee Rhonda wouldn't be so cocky, & if she was, she would be reminde that out of the 4 of them, she is the only one to retire because of how bad she was beaten. Rhonda got exposed for bullying her way through a new division that was still growing & it out grew her super fast.(Facts)
