    What determined the color you painted your engine. I have seen L4-134 engines both black and gray from the factory. The engine I have in my 1948 pickup came out of a CJ2-A and had been factory painted gray. I matched that color when rebuilding it. Also was your crankcase vent always at the rear of the side valve cover? I sure wish there were more assembly line photos taken back in the day. I also paint the timing marks on the flywheel with red nail polish.

      Good questions - regarding color I have seen many painted grey and mainly just personal preference. I actually ended up moving the crankcase vent after this video to the front because I noticed that is where most people have it, although I liked how it sat better when it was in the back. Yea I agree 100% .. would love to see more original photos from back then, would love to get stuff like that posted online if they exist somewhere. Good tip on the flywheel marks!
