When I was a kid in 1976, we went to Texas as a summer vacation. We went on a charter boat and fished with live shrimp out in the Gulf. Another family was onboard had popping corks on. They consistently caught bigger speckled trout than the rest of the boat and might have caught more.
Years later I was stationed at Camp Lejeune and I bought a boat so I could fish. I never learned how to catch trout, not for a lack of trying. This was before the internet, so it was a lot harder to find stuff out.

I fish Florida Gulf Coast or freshwater. One thing I've noticed, I can't remember ever catching a trout that showed signs of being caught before. Unlike freshwater fishing where I've caught bass, crappie and even catfish that had hook marks. I wonder if the mortality rate on speckled trout is higher than we are estimating. None of the fish you caught today showed signs of being caught before.
I don’t think so. I catch a bunch of 13-14 1/2 inch trout near the community holes that have been caught probably a dozen times, lol!
