Everything looks great Devon and Katy! Love the updates. It is nice to know that someone else is doing a lot of the same work every day that we do. Sometimes you can feel like you are on an island in this kind of work. This (hydroponic growing) is still relatively new. I have personally run into things that nobody has even heard of and have had to come up with my own solutions. It's really nice to find folks like yourself to bounce ideas off of! Take care and God Bless you and your families. Chuck & Darlene
Thank you! Glad to hear it, and I agree. I know there are times when Katy is up at 4:30 and not done until 7 or 8. I'm sure you guys have those days too. Hope you have a nice evening and God bless. -Devon
Yay for fresh green beans 🎉 how awesome. I only had survived of green beans out of three when i had to transfer hydroponic systems. And excitedly I found a green been on it today. It’s finally starting to produce while the rest of the plants are starting to finally take off and start looking like growing plants. I put the tomatoes and basil in the same five gallon together and left everything else together in the bigger system and it’s doing great. I have to change the water tomorrow and add more nutrients and so excited for this growth in the hydroponics and just gardening overall. It always makes me ready to do more when there is any success as it just keeps a natural motivation to keep watching them keep growing. Thanks for another great video and update. Can’t wait to see the flowers bloom also
That's pretty good! I've killed some beans in my garden before and always have issues with ants eating the seeds before they sprout, so I'm excited to get some from the greenhouse. You'll have to let me know how your tomatoes and basil do in the same bucket. We usually have the tomatoes on the vine formula, and the basil on the lettuce formula, but haven't experimented giving the basil any thing else. Hope you have a lovely weekend! -Devon
Just found your channel - it's GREAT, thank you! I did the same thing with cucumber starts. They were just about ready for transplant. When I discovered my mistake, those cuc's where poorly - way wilted flat. My heart sunk to me ankles. I was trialing a new biostimulant growth product called Regenisys Organics and had some leftover mix on hand. I figured if those cuc's had any chance of reviving, it'd be a good test for the product [but I wasn't holding my breath]. I walked back into the greenhouse about an hour later and - BAM - those cuc's looked like nothing had happened. I was gobsmacked! Those cuc's ended up being the sweetest I'd ever eaten [a Japanese variety from Baker Creek]. Stay safe - be well - many blessings.
Just recently found your videos and have been following along. I have always been interested in hydroponics and these videos have been fantastic. Each time I watch, it just makes me want to get started on my own system lol and then, I found out you're only about 45min away from me! (I live in Medina, OH) - pretty awesome 😃. Keep up the great work!
Wow, that was fast! Is was like yesterday when you planted them beans! Good job, love your work and waiting to see between you and J&G would try Coco Coir in your Dutch Buckets!
That’s some whopper beans! The Fortex I tried in my greenhouse last year didn’t do very well. I’m in south Mississippi and the summer heat in my little greenhouse is terrible. They did very well outside in the wicking tubs. My Dutch bucket tomatoes are only about 12” tall. I’m interested in trying the oasis cubes when my supply of rock wool runs out. Nice video! Thanks.
Thanks! I tried planting a second batch of Fortex in the garden last year, and they didn't do well with the August heat, but the first batch was good. Never as big as Katy's though. Sounds like your tomatoes are coming along. The ones I was working on in the video are probably 18" or more, but the other side is about the same as yours. Hope the Oasis cubes work out for you. We really like them and save a lot of money. Take care! - Devon
@@HomegrownPassion We find it makes the hay much more palatable and have had zero maintenance issues other than usual greasing and that has been for years.
Incase you have another oopsie like with the bokchoi get yourself a little mist bottle. Mist the leaves just a touch about every hour, it will all come back even stronger. When you forget to water the roots will force new growth which equals to more plant. Which is worse, skip a watering day rather than over watering?
Looks great that hydroponical farm. Like to setup one myself, only in Portugal bureaucratics are s bureaucratic it takes years befor one can startup a new business. What I like to ask you. Where did you bought the gutters with separat covers? Or under what name can I find them on the internet? Great farming go on.
Absolutely love your operation! I'm curious, as I've been struggling with beans quite a bit at home....Just can't seem to get any good info on a recommended EC / PH level...My oldest loves beans, and I've had some mild success, but I keep running into some deficiencies, and I know it's due to just not getting good info on EC / PH. I grow with Masterblend, and in an NFT system. If you had any suggestions, I can't tell ya how much I'd appreciate it. Thanks, and keep rocking! Love seeing your progress!
@Homegrown Passion - Thank you so much! I guess if you don't mind sharing what nutrients you are using, and ratios, that would be really awesome! However, I understand if that may not be something you want to disclose :) If you know the NPK, that would help... EC and PH would be huge... I've been home growing hydroponic veggies for abt 3 winter seasons, so no stranger to mixing, measuring, the processes, etc. Tomatoes, Cukes, Peppers, Lettuce, all things I can get, but these dang beans, lol!!! I haven't fully killed any (yet), but some seriously stunted growth and struggling plants because I have no idea what EC, PH, or other things I should be aiming for... Sorry for the long book, lol. I love growing, and having seen your videos before, you guys seem really cool, and I should have asked earlier :)
@@HomegrownPassion - I'm sure you guys get crazy busy, so even just a PH recommendation would give me a starting point? Just found your channel. Great video. You talked about getting on a ladder to get beans up high. Can you drop and stagger beans along your top cable like is done to tomatoes? Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Your greenhouse looks amazing!!
Hi and thank you! We probably could do that if we didn't let them grow along the top wire. They seems to wrap around anything they touch within a day. Luckily it's not a whole bunch to harvest. -Devon
Hello. I am used to bush beans. Is there any difference between them and pole beans. IE, flavor, texture, nutritional valve. loved seeing the skidsteer on tracks. thanks.
@@HomegrownPassion Thanks for the reply. I didn't think until later, but in a green house floor space is limited, so the more you can grow "up" the more you can produce in the limited room that you have. Plus I guess it would also mean less walking for you guys, for the same amount of produce.
I never knew about removing suckers. How do you tell the difference between a sucker and a leaf? You and your mom had a very polite and hard-working helper there for a little bit. The boys are so cute. ❤️
Yep these tomatoes will try to turn into a bush if we don't pull the suckers. The way that works for me is to start at the bottom of the stem and work up. The leaves are on the bottom and the suckers grow right on top in the crook between the leaf and stem, at least on these ones. I have cut the wrong thing before though lol. Thank you, the boys love helping out.
Hi devon and family great video, really enjoyed it .do Bobby green beans with bacon 🥓 they are lovely grilled with olive oil and seasoned .maybe a few mushrooms too x
Hi Paul! That's funny because he said the same thing. He told me to throw some bacon in with a bit of maple syrup. I've never tried them grilled. That sounds really good! 💚 - Devon

Are those chains on the wheels of the skid steer loader just for driving around in snow ? What happens if the fans ,which inflate the polythene greenhouse film layers, stop? Roughly many kilowatt hours does your greenhouse use each day in winter. Do you use more electricity in summer to keep things cool?
They are for snow and mud. Without them, it gets stuck easily. If the fans stop, the two layers of plastic covering loose air and deflate. Then they aren't tight around the greenhouse structure, and if it's windy they can flap around and tear. Also, we lose the insulation the air pocket provides. It'd be bad. I'll have to check on the kilowatt and get back to you. We use a bit of electricity in the summer to run the pump for the water wall in the back of the greenhouse and the louvers. Good questions! -Devon
Hi There, just found your channel. Great content and well done. Not trying to brag but I have a pretty good knowledge base of hydroponics as it relates to cannabis but am l converting a 10x12 space in my greenhouse to veggies. We would like to grow a variety but want to use one reservoir. We would like to grow bell peppers, peas, beans, strawberries etc but i did recall u mentioning lettuce had to be in a separate nutrient mix and I suspect others as well. Is there any info available about nutrient blends that would work for multiple varieties of plants? I would gladly pay for this info. I use RO water with EC of 0 to start.
i know you can get nutrient recipes made up from different horticulturist, universities etc. i guess that's the first place to start. peas, beans, tomatoes would work well on a vine formula but lettuce and strawberries I don't think would work.

Technically yes, but it can go against the terms of the seed breeder. I'd have to look these up. Some companies have patents on seeds.
