    Watched many videos on this subject. Yours was by far the easiest to follow & absorb. I ordered the Ranger 56” for my Cannon ESO Rebel T7. I travel frequently, will use almost exclusively for photography & being a short senior the height & light weight works perfect, as you said this ticks off all the boxes for me. Expecting it tomorrow.

    I have the very same mini manfrotto - I got mine used (i'm new) for just under £10/$13.50 and highly recommend it as it is so stable on all platforms and the adjustable ball head is a dream to work with.!!!!

    Just about the best and most useful video I have seen on Tripods. I loved your opening comment about 'Cooler than the other side of the pillow'. What a great analogy. I have one of the Manfrotto Mini tripods but wanted to get something a little bigger but not costing a fortune. Your video certainly helped. And I thought it was particularly well-made and presented. Thanks and greetings from London, England. Oh, I have now subscribed and I have been using a VERY old Velbon tripod so far that is WELL past it's 'use-by' date.

    so i ended up really lucking out when it came to tripods...i knew i needed one, but kept getting too overwhelmed by the thought of trying to choose the right one for me that i kept putting it off. but, then i got a text from a friend who was cleaning out excess stuff in her house and found some extra tripods she was getting ready to donate! so i acquired three different kinds....a joby-like tripod, a monopod, and a full-size tripod. that said, i haven’t heard much about the brands (i believe two of them are off-brands...the only one i’ve heard a tiny bit about is Vivitar) of the three tripods, so i’m trying all of them out in a carpeted room before i take it outside for an actual shoot. i’m not expecting any to be amazing long-term solutions, but they were doable and attractive options because i got them free.

    i don’t have a tripod yet. at one point i was looking at a gorillapod or something similarly short because the portability of those are so appealing, but when i do end up getting a tripod i think i would probably end up choosing something that gives me a wide variety of options with regards to possible heights. definitely going to look into the Rangers one you mentioned!

    • @JoshWiniarski

      It's definitely tricky to find a tripod that an do everything you want. Do some research, but something similar to the Rangers 56" is a good place to start!

  • @petradigula1016

    Hey, thanks for these super useful tips! I am looking to invest in a tripod and am currently stuck on the Rangers 56". I have a question, if I were to take pictures - mainly portraits - in vertical position, how good is Rangers 56" in this case? Can it actually be adjusted to take shots vertically and how stable is it in that position (does the ball head hold it firmly at that angle)? If not Rangers 56", do you have any particular suggestion that matches these characteristics? Again, thanks a lot!

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In terms of build quality and sturdiness, I'd say the rangers is fine! HOWEVER, the biggest downside with this particular tripod is 56" isn't terribly tall. I don't have any personal recommendations, but I'd look for something similar just taller. I mainly use mine for landscapes where arguably it is less important. Hope this helps!

    • @JoshWiniarski

      Yep, it's standardized! I believe there may be one other size, but for any consumer level tripod and camera combo and even most professionals they should all be compatible!

  • @lothomillstone

    Ok, so I literally got my first DSLR (600D) on Friday, and I can't believe it - And of course looking for my first tripod. I;m actually watching this video for the 2nd time, doing everything you said... "Aghh Josh what have you done to me..."
    It seems near impossible to tick every box, especially if you want a decent height of 160cm / + 60" and light weight and a head suitable for video and photography oh and travel would be great. It seems to be the case in Australia that stores will have a limited range vs their online inventory and the price points for basic tripods in Australia have a "cheap" (aka probably crappy) $100 AUD price point then a huge jump to the 250 AUD. But further investigation leads you to find price differences of 50-80 dollars between retailers. That is the cost of a small travel tripod!
    My thinking of requirements is that I want to do A) photography of landscapes/portraits and B) want to shoot some video. I want a tripod that would be at least 5'5"-5'7" but it seems to be more rare to find tripods at that height or higher. The advise I had from a retailer was that at a certain point, tripods just get heavier and can take heavier cameras. Sure... so Josh I ask you this..
    Assuming you are taller than your tripods max height, has this impacted you? You already have some limitations with the head not being ideal for video, and you have chosen a brand online that is competitively priced.. (~90-100 AUD), - for somebody who wants to do a number of things but yet to do it, what features do you really really really REALLY appreciate for these /your use cases?
    is one likely to regret buying a tripod that is a great all rounder for photos/videos but isnt as compact as a travel tripod?

    Hey, I use a Nikon D3500 and I actually need to get a tripod. Exactly as you said, I came with the mind that I need one Tripod but now I'm confused. Though I want to be involved in mostly photography but I am rethinking because of the limitations of the travel tripod that you mentioned. So should I still go for the Travel/Photography tripod or I should look for a less complicated one

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the most part yes! Depending on what exactly you shoot you might want a pan/tilt head, but for normal "talking head" youtube videos it won't matter too much. Best of luck with your channel!
