    Totally agree with business people trying to scam you in Bangladesh. I am a Bangladeshi and have seen foreigners bring scammed that way. However, I believe it is not unique to Bangladeshi people. It is a trend of Bengali speaking business person in general. I mean, not all but maybe 50% of them are crooked as you said. Be it from Bangladesh or West Bengal or from anywhere else. Honest review.

    Lol. You are absolutely right about the price. I am Bangladeshi and I paid 8 time more for a glass bottle of mountain dew. It's not like I had no idea about the price but I already opened it, so can't give it back. So, how does a mountain dew taste after paying 8 time more? 😂 Taste like sin. Lol.
    Now my rule is- 1. Ask the price first for any food item if it is not a reputed place. 2. If you are taking a rickshaw, ask the rent before you ride. In cities the rent is around 4-5 BDT per 100meter or 3-4 BDT for every minute of ride. 3. Most of the small town now have some sort of super shops try to buy only from those. Yes, I mean those shops with computerized POS. 4. Buy ticket online, many time it can be a option.

    In most of Asia, Africa, even street sellers in Europe etc it's a well known practice of cabbies, vendors, suverniors etc I.e. the normally haggled items prices have deferent starting price to foreigner's, naive looking or rich locals, all get different starting prices but some experienced savvy travellers know all the walk away act, get f off body languages etc trick + always drop your starting price at 20 25% of their proposed..etc tricks, this different prices for different folks is super normal in most non industrialized places, don't fret it my friend. 1. Alcohol is restricted but not banned. You can drink without any problems but in the Private room or at Bar. Local people can apply for a license to buy, carry or drink alcohol. Bangladesh has also Government-owned Alcohol industry named Carew & Co (Bangladesh) Ltd is a distillery producing alcohol made from sugar cane in Bangladesh and produces Vodka, Whiskey, also export Alcohol to some countries. For non-Muslims, you are also allowed to bring 2 bottles of Alcohol when you visit Bangladesh from other countries.
    2. Fruits and Vegetables actually cheap if you buy directly from farmers, the price rise in cities because of the broker or middle businessmen. You can search for many news that Farmers did not get the right price then they dumped all potatoes, tomatoes in River, or in the street. From Farmers, you can even buy 1KG Tomato or Potatoe for just .10 to .15 cents, same as Fruits.
    3. There are bad people all over the world so in Bangladesh or India no differences. Be careful and take help from Tourist Police if you face any problems. Tourist Police of Bangladesh is the best Tourist Police in Asia, no doubt! Besides Bangladesh is the rising Economy and a safe tourist place in Asia. Hope to see you again in Bangladesh :)

    Yes very sad that everybody talking about the cheating part. but nobody talking about the how hospitality Bangladeshi people did for him without knowing him very weel.
    Now about the business people they always cheat even they cheat with the local customer. No other country people let you to stay there home and eat for free without knowing you very well so I think you should be grateful for that.
    I live in Sydney for the last 12 years I never seen or heard anybody help anyone without knowing them very well. And even USA also the same. Bangladesh is much better country than any other Western countries regarding hospitality.

    I am Bangladeshi myself but I grew up in the west. I absolutely cannot go anywhere there without my father, who is an expert at bargaining and will not let anyone cheat him. Many Bangladeshi people are street smart and bargaining is an essential skill. I would always suggest that you travel with a local.

    • @Edgesofearth
      @Edgesofearth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      - I always traveled with a local. 98% of the cheating took place when a local was standing right next to me. Even the local was shocked that the other local was trying to cheat me. The response was always that 'he is a foreigner, so he should have to pay more.' 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Most of the fruits are imported, that's why those are not really cheap(as you said compared to india). India produces many kinds of fruits. Also that our diet is far from being fruit centric. So fruits are considered food of the rich people. Like vegetables in America cost a lot compared to here in Bangladesh..

    @4:50.. yep, that's the Bangladesh I know.. My friend, they see you as a walking ATM.. and yes I agree my personal experience has been the same, it's the mentality of the people!!! You got to ask yourself why no one bothers to go there for a holiday, or if they have gone then why they never go back..
    I am actually very pleased that you have bought this issue up.. I've travelled extensively around the world and in BD the amount cheating and ripping people off is just unreal..
    Having said that I have been to many places where they have a tourist price and locals price, it's just the way the world works. Take any tourist bazaar all the prices are inflated by 500% -1000% in some cases, when you walk down the road you will find it for a fraction of the price...

    • @Edgesofearth
      @Edgesofearth  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - The only other place I have visited that had this amount of cheating four tourists was un Cambodia. Even in the towns and small villages where tourists rarely ever visit, they would refuse to sell me a product unless I paid the high price...such as water or food. Sad, really.
      I have heard very similar things about Morocco, unfortunately.
      Despite the negativity about Bangladeshi cheating, I still would like to go back and experience other places of the country. the regular people who were not in business, we're awesome, caring, and friendly! 🙌

    600-700 is very poor level hotel,it just a buffet lunch/dinner price in a restaurant...
    For medium level hotel probably 1500-2000 tk(like in many videos I saw hotel 71,and many other hotels)
    Rickshaw 20-30tk per km depand kn jam situation..
    CNG( call tuk-tuk in Thai) are for roads which not allow rickshaw and for more then 3km distances(may be 80-120 for 3km by bargain, then for 5km could be 150-250 by bargain)

    • @Edgesofearth
      @Edgesofearth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - similar to India and China, and probably other countries, there are special documents that hotels must fill out to report to local police. many hotels do not carry these documents. in addition there are certain liabilities surrounding the guests in their hotel. generally speaking, it is assumed that foreigners are rich and if something goes wrong inside the hotel, such as someone stealing your belongings, then the hotel would be responsible. and the hotel does not want to be responsible for extremely expensive luggage or equipment... so they will reject you.
      all i can say is get to a new city as early as possible like eleven thirty in the morning to give yourself several hours to find a hotel before night fall. not joking.
      if you are trying to save money, then it will be more difficult, but if you go to the most expensive hotels in an area, you will probably be just fine because these are usually labeled as international hotels. I hope this helps..

    Its really heartbreaking to know that u experienced few cheaters here. I am not disagree with you. But the matter, you are saying that almost everyone who was to sell anything to you, cheated with you about the price, thats actually happen in some very few occasions,. And almost every residential hotels and all restaurants has their fixed prices. May be, you were one of the most unlucky person visited here. Feeling sorry for you. You are welcome here again and plz have a schedule with me. :-)

      - this was definitely not something that happened very little. i could read the prices on the menu i even had the chart in my phone saved so i knew what the characters meant. if this happened only a couple of times, I would have never included this information in this video. but this happened so frequently. every time I went in to purchase a product or a meal from anyone, anywhere in Bangladesh, I always entered knowing that I would be cheated because it was so rare to find someone authentic. sad, really.
      but on the other side of things, when I met people who are not trying to sell me a product or a service, they were completely amazing and genuine and full of respect.

    I don’t get it about cheating on food items or anything u buy. You are a traveller, by now you should be smart enough to handle the cheating anywhere in the world. Price list always there in any restaurant in Bdesh other than very low grade restaurant. If they cheat you, you deserve it or u have to have more experience.How can they ask more from you than what u had. Packaged product has price tag. If somebody ask more, go to the other shops. Don't ask me to believe everyone will ask more.I do not deny there is no cheating but those are in certain sectors. That is there all over the world, when local see foreigners, like taxi ride, buying something from open market etc. Pls don't generalise everything for BD. I have travelled many countries of the world. I know how cheating works.It is there everywhere in the world, more or less. Bdesh is developing country, you can't expect everything of Western standard. Look, USA sells F-16 to some country with USD 35 m, same stuff with same configuration with USD 40 m to some other countries. Isn’t it one kind of cheating? If it happens in BD, u call it cheating, but business in case of USA. Enough of it. Pls do visit my country Bangladesh without any fear. If u need some kind of guidance to train you how to handle cheatingbin BD, give me a shout. I will be back in BD 1st wk of Apr'20. Stay safe & healthy.

      - your whole comment was about what to do AFTER someone cheats you.
      but that was not the point that I was making in the video. the point that I was making is that Bangladeshi people cheated me very often. In fact, it was significantly more than any other Asian country I have ever traveled to...besides Cambodia. It was probably tied with Cambodia.
      generalizing is the only thing that I can do because I cannot make a video and talk about every single transaction that I had. I give my judgement and opinion based on a percentage. those who did versus those who did not try to cheat me. and out of every single transaction that I made while in Bangladesh, a significant portion of those people tried to cheat me. FACT. numbers don't lie..

      - unfortunately it does. When people hear things like this they simply don't want to come. If they don't come, less money will enter their country and their economy will remain the same.

      - agreed. It is so weird because the people who were running a business and trying to accept my money almost always cheated me. But if someone was not a business owner, and just was a common person and I randomly interacted with them, they were extremely kind and friendly. It was only the business owners who we're very frustrating to me. 🧐

    If you told us the US equivalent to a taka, I missed it. Google says 1 taka equals 12 cents. I guess it's sinful for a foreigner to have a beer but not to cheat one. Hotel accommodations for a foreigner are hit or miss--no thanks, just cross Bangladesh off my list.

    • @Edgesofearth
      @Edgesofearth  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      - Wrong decimal place, 1 taka is currently 1.2 cents US.
      Yeah, the hotel thing in Bangladesh is weird...same in India. Maybe 35% of the hotels that I have visited, have rejected me (in India)
      Bring a tent, just incase 💪😂

      It is not sinful for a foreigner to jave alcohol, most places dont sell alcohol as its not allowed without a locense which is very expensive to get one. Foreigners are allowed to drink alcohol. But because there is high tax on alcohol, its very expensive in Bangladesh.
