The first time I heard this album (Soulside Eclispe), I was absolutely blown away! I still love the album. It is an epic journey through conflict and victory, chaos and resolution. This track, Black Hordes Rising, is by far my favorite, with its driving rhythms, layers of harmony, and discordant chaos. It feels like an epic climax to an equally epic journey, and it's a wild ride. This is why I was stunned when X admitted they weren't sure this track should have been included, that maybe the journey should have been concluded with Arcane Pandemonium. So, I went back for another listen, and I realized why. There is no transition from Arcane to Hordes. The entry into Hordes feels disjointed and out of place, and I now understand what X meant (at least from my perspective, eh?) Arcane does indeed draw a story to a close. But, I don't feel that it concludes the epic journey. Hordes concludes an epic journey, but a massive piece of the journey is missing. It needs another whole "book" or two of the story, as if "The Curse of the Eclipse" through "Arcane Pandemonium" was book 1, and Hordes is the climax of the entire trilogy. That all said, I don't know if Ensl better follows Arcane or Hordes. Either way, I absolutely love this track, and this album.
