This is the kind of sound you can hear from a kilometer away or more. Hearing these taiko at city festivals, even with the tall buildings and traffic, it pulls you towards them, it's really primal. The sound is really incredible. You can feel it in your lungs and ribs even from a block away.

This is the kind of thing you have to witness live. You can feel the energy they put into their drumming and being a halfbreed I felt a sense of honor and pride when I got to see it performed live at an event in NYC

I did Taiko on Sado Island, Japan a few weeks ago. The instructor was amazingly funny and crazy, perfect for the job. He was a complete goofball, but a master at Taiko nonetheless. He was 53 years old and he was screaming and jumping everywhere! :D Amazing experience.

I loved the performance :). It really shows the amount of strength and discipline they must have to create such a wonderful sound. I really hope the children learned a lot from their experience. I would love to see this performance live. I think it would be a very powerful and meaningful experience for your mind and heart. Something you'll always remember.

Ive seen these things live and hearing it through your computer speakers or headphones does not do them justice. You can literally feel the sound in your chest and its very empowering. Youd need a high quality surround sound system and powerful bass to get close to the experience. Even then it wouldnt be the same.

@Ghrimvixon Ive seen it live once; at a holiday festivel at Fasion Island. I was just lucky. This doesn't do it justice. They had a mostly female team with a male 'backup' lead by a modern Samuri. You could feel it from the ground. I've never heard anything so intense. It shook my very core. Every single cell in my body could feel it. Not some flimsy new age meditation; but THUNDER that seemed to reach to heaven and tear open the sky. I think my viking ancestors...I think it changed me.

The volume of this drum may be measured with a shout of their best, and is known.
Unbelievably they have struck the drum with might and main.
In fact, the stick of that tree is also heavy.
It is the physical strength not to be believed.

This kind of drum artistry (cause it is, totally) must have been inspirational to one of the performances that "Stomp Out Loud" show (at least in their DVD) I'm thinking of the one where they use, I think they're socks with knots, to hammer at some drum barrels which are constantly being lightly sprayed by water.
