When I first started violin before I had a teacher I was guessing I would learn 4th position because it is the same note as the higher string. The 3rd position is easy because it is an octave above the lower string.
Really good advice here! I just got done last week doing a strings camp where I had to introduce 3rd position and did a lot of what you showed. I'll admit though I'm a little confused about what Tartini tones are. I know the term has been used before but the closest term I can think of in relation to it is "ring tones" but they're not quite the same right?
on higher positions i must press the string all the way until it touches the fingerboard? because the tension is very high and i need a lot of power for my fingers to press enough. but i see if i press just 'almost' until before the string touch the fingerboard still i can get a good sound bowing a little harder. on extreme positions (7th, 8th, etc) it's almost impossible for me to press the string all the way into the fingerboard!
Pressing down on the fingerboard will cause tension, I don’t recommend that. Instead, try using the weight of your arm to naturally bring the finger down to the fingerboard. Try that and see if it helps.
@@erictheviolinist how can i use the weight from the arm? it stays lower than the hand. i tried many forms of position for this but without success. you could make a video about finger pressure on higher positions!
THANK YOU i'm supposed to be advanced but i don't know how to read or play 3rd position it's really a huge insecurity but i know i can learn it, tysm
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching and joining the community!
I've been playing sense i was 7 and am 19 now and no one ever taught me this either. I feel the same way I'm glad it's not only me.
Your steps are what I know as tone and semi-tone.
