This is an old idea that there are all rich Anglos who are hanging in Espana. There are almost 950,000 Brits in Spain and 2/3 of them are of lower middle class working at restaurants, hotels, bars, clubs, etc and in addition to this most of them don't even try to speak native languages of Spain but still Spaniards don't complain about them.
Above all I can't believe that the Brits who get immigrants from all over the world have some problems with some Poles. I thought Brits were the most sensible people in Europe since late eighteenth century.

Brits have no right to complain about foreigners while they're building ghettos in Spain- filled with pensioners who refuse to learn Spanish and leach off the sun and medical-care.
I say this as an English person who emigrated to Norway, I've yet to meet another British person who made an honest effort to learn Norwegian- this is a story that is repeated all over the world: no matter the language; no matter the country.

As a 70 year old Brit it makes me sad to listen to these Polish people. I was shocked and disappointed when I heard the referendum result as I knew it was going to spell trouble and I wasn't wrong. Brexit certainly emboldened the racists and xenophobes so I wasn't surprised to hear what the Polish ladies said. It's not only Polish people being told to "go back to your own country", even some black and Asian people have received the same treatment. That some have been born here doesn't cross the mind of the bigoted racists who can't get their heads around that.
I've spent years touring European countries, mainly Eastern and Poland was always a favourite. Whichever country I was in I would try to learn a few basic words but Polish is extremely difficult. Most young Polish speak English and a few older too though I never expect it from Polish people in my age group. Britains connections with Poland go back to ww2 when Germany had invaded Poland and we declared war. Young Polish lads who had managed to escape to UK were eager to join the armed forces and we had a number of RAF Polish fighter squadrons. Many sacrificed their lives to keep Hitler from our front door, yet now Brits (some) are telling them to "go back to your country" or demand they speak English when talking with their family members.
I understand why they are deciding to return.......i'm not happy about the reasons and it makes me feel ashamed that Britons could do this to other people. What will become of this country I dread to think as what i'm seeing now is not good and had I been younger, i'd have left years ago as i'm sick and tired of the race hate and xenophobic insanity.

They are pretty much hard working, family orientated, decent, friendly people like most of the other europeans I have met (few exceptions but not generally Polish). Comments on here have been pretty shitty in general and most people I know are pretty embarrassed by the current situation especially given that they are very much a part of the community in East Anglia where I live.

Yeah, "for centuries"... Those centuries stopped about about 150 years ago. The UK is not the wealthy, powerful empire it once was and we cannot afford to finance every other person in the world. We have limited and diminishing resources that need to be shared among UK nationals first, before we start to concern ourselves with the nationals of every other nation. Would you feed the neighbour's son and see your own son starve as a result? Of course not, you put your own first and it's time we put UK nationals first.

There have to be a reason that reputation of the Poles in England is that bad.

To all those saying "assimilate!, Learn English!" - did Brits finally assimilate and learn the languages of countries they invaded hundreds of years ago? Have all those Brits that bought houses and settled in Spain learned to at least say 'hi' in Spanish? I don't think so.
You all think you're so great, and can look at immigrants from above, yet, most of the negative comments come from uneducated Brits that live off child benefits and tax credits. We're not stupid. Most Poles are educated and sooner or later will learn that there's no place like home. Once that happens, you're in big trouble. It's already starting to happen. Thousands of Poles are flooding the borders, but this time it's on the way out. Peace and love to you ✌️

Mabey im missing something but why would you move to a country that pays more but is 4x more expensive to live? That doesnt make sence. Every country is the same if you dont have money then the ratio of living standard is pretty much similar everywhere in the west. Brits are NOT AGAINST IMMIGRATION. We are against UNCONTROLLED IMMIGRATION. Big difference. Currently as members of the EU we can not limit, set or change our immigration laws regarding EU migrants because of laws created by EU bureaucrats in Brussels. That's why we voted leave. There is nothing racist or xenophobic about that. How would Poles like it if Russians had a right to settle in Poland and were not allowed to limit the influx of Russians due to a treaty signed 6 decades ago?

Obviously any attacks should be condemned, but compared to the millions of Polish in the UK, we are talking about a few incidents. ***** Sure, taking money out of the economy "has no effect"... I see roles of notes being sent back daily. £100's sent back by scores of people and that's just in my local post office. It happens all over. An average British worker would have spent that in the UK economy.
My partner works in a shop and she tells me she sees the Polish everyday. They buy the cheapest food apparently. Subsist on as little as possible. Around where a relative of mine lives, there's a 2 bedroom house with 6 poles living there. All men. All working.
You can't say anything against the Poles work ethic. They are good workers. They aren't here to make Britain a richer or better place though. If we had currency equality, or a weaker currency than the Euro, you would see hardly any of them. I don't have anything against them personally, but if you think millions of economic migrants entering a country in a short period of time has no negative impact, you're dreaming.

1 The UK, as one of the 5 net contributors to the EU, paid for the Polish infrastructure.

Every single one of them urged me to vote out of the EU ! This is because the EU required them to bring their factories up to European standards and it was just too expensive for the owners.

Of all of the europeans to victimise, the Polish fought for the British, are hard working and have apprentices, labourers, and craftsman who are capable of producing good workmanship. This is frankly fightening. Which other foreign nationals will treated this way in Britain? What's happend to "Cool Britannia?" and Britain as a Land of new ideas attracting talent from around the world? In that respect, the UK has in the last twenty years, almost enjoyed the status of a "Trademark" for talent and for new ideas as well as being one of the coolest place to be. Perhaps someone can enlighten me. Sorry if my English is not top notch, never the less, best regards from Germany.

+tomlinid that is.a good point. But leaving the EU on the grounds of immigratiom is rather thin, no one likes the EU, not even the Germans or French, however Britain needs the EU because it can't sustain itself on its own. I wish it could, but time will tell, about 10 years should do it. But beating up and abusing fellow European citizens is criminal. That is the issue at the moment. Eastern europeans have been attacked and murdered in the UK. Why the hell are Britons venting their anger angainst Polish European citizens?

    • @tomlinid

flippop101 It beats me why they are attacking Eastern Europeans. I can understand why some people are upset about the level of immigration the country is already overpopulated the government should have tried to reduce immigration and increased spending on infrastructure in the areas where the immigrants went but they didn't. The result is the locals feel they have to compete with the immigrants for housing, doctors, school places, etc. But that is no excuse for attacking people on the street.

Jesus, the comments here are quite the treat.
I love some Brits, but I find they don't quite understand why thinking about them in the context of WW2 can leave some bitterness in Poles.
To put it bluntly -a lot- at least some of us thinks Britain basically betrayed Poland, twice. The first time when they waged the strange war, basically doing nothing to help Poland during the September campaign, and then after the war when together with the USA they left us at the mercy of Stalin, basically sacrificing us at the altar of politics, for peace.
Now, history being history, it's usually much more complex and multifaceted than just single sided narrative, but that's how some people feel over here.
Add to that the fact that Britain wasn't overly happy with the reconstructing of the Polish state after the Great War, and you get "the damn Brits never liked us anyway" sentiment.
Is it completely unfounded? Well, I wouldn't go as far, but there are multiple angles of argumentation that can disarm some of it.

@@jeffreykalb8810 I'd go even further, the American public would be livid if Operation Unthinkable was realized and prompted five more years of war against the Soviets using US-made tanks and planes. No sane politician would make that decision. Stalin knew that and used it to his advantage.
The US with others has sold us for peace, it left a bad taste, but it's understandable. They made a deal with the devil, and we were the price.
However, Britain and France soured our collective trust towards military alliances. We hear "Western allies" and we think "right, like in '39?"

So a nation of almost 40 million who haven't had the taste of the West and real freedom for a long damn time, will invetiably have relatively more of its citizens migrate to the UK to that of the other nations simply due to a lack of choice. This wouldn't be such a big problem if for instance
    1. British employers never employed anyone and paid "under the table", but rather paid standard wages adequate for a role.
    2. UK Government should have negotiated limits and temp working permits for new EU members. Or something like that in this area.
I was really surprised when UK opened the job market pretty much from day one of EU membership. Noble without question, but a bit shortsighted if you ask me. Being Polish, I recall, nearly 20% unemployment rates in early 2000s in Poland, what do you suppose was to happen when you open up a job market to these masses of people who really didn't have much to lose but to give it a go...
I also fear that the immigration to the UK won't slow down, only it will only come from a different places.

      +John Mulligan there are plenty of highly skilled blacks and Muslims, even black Muslims, white Muslims, etc, what is your problem? This isn't a racism issue, not even a xenophobic issue, only a numbers and control issue, which has been the convention for centuries, save for the US when it first started to grow, because it's workforce was NON-EXISTENT. After the Second World War, many workers from the Afro-Caribbean areas were invited in because the casualty rate amongst young working men during the war meant that again, the manpower was no longer there;
Most integrated well, because there was a steady flow of immigrants. Yes, there were racial tensions, but most will tell you it was hardly noticeable; but always, a part of integration is to accept the language of your hosts and try and speak it as often as possible, partly because it's polite (how often did English holidaymakers get criticised by locals for not even trying to speak the local language?), and also it helped them fit in

What's racist is that an EU citizen who's not coming in to the UK, or France, or Germany, to contribute, is allowed to just stroll in and claim any amount of money, housing, schools and healthcare, where someone from outside the EU HAS to have qualifications, HAS to go through a five-year process, and then has to pay for everything when, and if, they can live there! We are not all the same. We dont hate polish or immigrants. to tlak in our native language shows appreciation for being here that is all. we have a culture like you, we feel our culture is being trampled on it is tied to the EU and the fact that they opened up the free movement of people to get votes. that's all. its not about people its about powers and We are sorry if you was hurt by our people but we are fighting for our country. We are fighting against the EU the new world order. our fight is your fight. How can you blame English people that we won't integrate it is not up to english people to integrate. it is yours. and if you walk around speaking polish in an English country it is you that rebels against our culture. its about respect and culture and you show no respect for our culture. this has been done by the EU purposefully. it is the movement of Globalism. We have no issues with polish peoples we have no problems with muslims. but if you are to come here and expect english people to learn polish NO. you need to show a littel bit of respect for the country you decided to live in. if i move to russia i wouldnt expect russia to achange for me. id have to change. same when you come to the UK. sorry if you dont like that. BUT UK HAS A CULTURE ALSO. STOP TRAMPLING ON IT. THIS IS A HIT PIECE

That guy said a lot of English people quit the job after a week or two. I done the same recently at a warehouse job. Not because of the work or pay but because the majority of the workers were Polish or Lithuanian. The workplace was very segregated with little British employees. Polish and Lithuanians all stayed together and spoke their own language in a team workplace even though most of them could speak English perfectly fine. They made little effort with the British staff. It's a horrible feeling to feel isolated in a workplace in your own country.

That's a silly reason to quit a job. Also, as a bilingual person, I can assure it's not the same to speak one's native tongue and the second language (english). These people did nothing wrong to you yet you don't feel comfortable around them cause they're different. You're just small minded

Lets be honest about this, before Polen joined the EU , there was a lot of unemployment in the UK. How do you think they created jobs for more than 1 million poles plus many other workers from eastern europe?
I know many cases when local british workers, all from cleaners, bus drivers to engineers and nurses were made redundant in order to create jobs for the newcomers from EU. People were being fired for no valid reasons, departments were closed and reopened just to be able to hire newcomers. No politicians ever admitted this happened although people could sense what was going on hence they voted for brexit.
