      It's also somewhat fitting to Kuja in the end of FF9, where he also sacrificed himself to save Zidane and at last the planet of Gaia as such.
      The line "I was defeated by life itself" is a good spoiler xD

    "Off with you. Aren't there more important things for you to seize?"
    I think that really says a lot about Kuja. He acts so cool and composed only to hide his crippling self esteem, can't blame considering he's looked down by all the other villains in the Dissidia universe and his backstory in his own game.
    That's what I love about him, he has layers and you can relate to him on some levels. It's not like, say Sephiroth, were he's like: "Woe is me, I have alien DNA that makes me stronger, faster, and smarter than everyone else. I work for a world dominating company and everyone loves me. Truly my existence is a miserable one!"

    • @emptilion
      @emptilion 8 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      coolguyman16 Yeah. Sephiroth was created as a sinister background villain who looms over the story like a shadow. Which works for plenty of people, but those have never been my kind of villains. And the side games suddenly push him to the foreground, which really reveal how boring he actually is.
      don't mind a villain who is more like an evil force of nature than a character "Kefka for example is my favorite villain alongside Kuja", but Sephiroth just wasn't meant to be used more than his own game. His entire thing was mystery, but as a character without that mystery he just completely falls flat.
      In dissidia he really was one of the least interesting villain of the bunch.
      But yeah, Kuja is a fantastic villain.

    • @Buliwyf90
      @Buliwyf90 8 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      the problem with sephiroth is that he's more or less a victim, but once he goes with the crazy/destroyer of worlds part he looses all his interesting parts and never recovers. Kuja is much, much better (ff9 was much much better if you ask me) everything he does, the way he dress, the way he acts is a desperate attempt at self-affirmation, to defy his role an empty vessel (he is not empty, but he lives ALL his life under the threat of becoming so). He play the villain part because he's created to bring destruction to the world, and at the same time he tries to play his own game agaist his master. Also just like the black mages he has to copy with concepts beyond he immediate grasp, given his condition as an artificial being, like death. He's crushed by despair, but he managed to redeem himself in the end. He's a lot like Roy Batty in Bladerunner and thats one hell of a compliment

    • @coolguyman16
      @coolguyman16 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +Buliwf90 Yeah, that's what I love about Kuja, there's so much to explore. I feel like Sephiroth's backstory is done given its simplicity and what happened in Crisis Core (huge plotholes aside). But did Kuja love killing and destroying, or was it just a front to appease Garland? Personally, I think he spent as much time as possible in his Desert Palace scheming on how to overthrow Garland, only coming out interact with Brahne. Given his lack of complex emotions, I think he was more so indifferent to it than outright hated it though.
      And that's just the beginning of an analysis for Kuja, he's a lot like Ultimecia in that there's more than meets the eye, whereas Sephiroth is pretty clear from the start and is fleshed out pretty quickly. I think the deepest you can get with him in the Jenova & Sephiroth Theory, half of which makes him even less of a legitimate villain and more like a puppet.

    • @astrisperspecto4130
      @astrisperspecto4130 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Kuja also stood up against his fate to vanish into void after he reaches the age of 24 - and with that Zidane being old enough to have his maximum power able - and chose quite the overdramatic path.
      But here again Kuja has a clear theme within his acting: Theater. Since kefka who's motive was insanity, given by power and experimental doings on humans, Kuja has a clear and we'll pointed out theme.
      Ultimecia was quite the Witch but so are Edea and the witch of past. so nooo real outstanding there while Sephiroth is so vague in his theme - fallen hero? immature alien child? Whimsy Sissy? - I couldn't really find a way to him.

    • @astrisperspecto4130
      @astrisperspecto4130 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Also when you play FF9 as first part of the franchise, which I did, you don't think kuja is more villain than brahne.
      Of course he is following the villain rules: Older than main protagonist, fancy outstanding over the top sexy clothes, very unique hairdo. but it isn't as obvious as with Ultimecia

    So sad Kuja story. He had a reason to be angry at the world. The father who created him loved his younger brother more, his people didnt see him as anything more than a tool but thats not their fault because garland took away the things that made unique models after them 2. Kuja short life span. He really wanted to just prove he was as good as Zidane and worthy of being alive. He didn't have friends or any support. So he sought power but really everything he did was to protect himself and try and distance himself from the pain he felt deep down, he just wanted to be loved and have friends.

    Kuja did not "die"; when they are defeated, they are returned to their universes without any memory of Dissidia.
    None of them "die".
    They are competing for the crystals on a team.
    Cosmos and her warriors vs Chaos and his.
    The goal is to beat either side and claim the crystal so that the winning side can maintain power.
    When they lose, they are sent back to their timelines with no memory of the events of Dissidia

      You could say they are somewhat like brothers

    • @RandomShinigami7
      @RandomShinigami7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If I remember correctly, Zidane and Kuja were both created to be an “Angel of Death”, with Kuja being created first and Zidane as an improved replacement for Kuja. They have the same creator and were created for the same purpose, so in a way yes they are related. ISK calling them somewhat like brothers is what they may as well be.

    • @ericotness6147
      @ericotness6147 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're effectively brothers. Garland [no relation to the guy from the first Final Fantasy beyond name] created them to be Angels of Death as part of his agenda to restore Terra by wiping out Gaia. Kuja's the prototype, and was literally created as is. Because of that, he's emotionally stunted, hence his narcissism since he's essentially a child in an adult body. Zidane was created to effectively replace him, hence why Kuja basically banished him to Gaia, resulting in his own banishment courtesy of Garland.

      SuperBleuz then why is kefka one of the top ones? I liked kujas apearance

    • @SuperBleuz
      @SuperBleuz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's because contrary to Kuja, Kefka doesn't take himself seriously, Kefka's clothes fit him. Kefka is the stereotype of "goofy but strong" character, which is an extremely popular trope.
      Kuja was made to be serious but his outfit is frivolous and doesn't really fit what most serious male characters would be enclined to take i believe.
