True Falklands story about Steve brown's Harrier: When Steve brown was land his Harrier on the Atlantic Conveyor he set the nozzles to 27° whilst landing. Soon he realised how close his tail was to the pole at the end of the ship. So he moved forward which made it worst. His mistake was that he forgot to set the nozzles to 90° and he soon realised that. He then pushed it to 90° but as he tried to land the nose flopped over the side bringing the plane with it. "That's the end of that airplane" said (Can't remember his name) from the main deck. It looked as if he was going to smash straight into the water, but just then Steve Brown (thinking quickly) pushed the throttle to 100/WEP and managed to pull the 21,000lb jet up away from being lost and (name not remembered) looked from the deck amazed even though it seemed the aircraft had tipped over the side. Steve Brown then turned vertical landing off and flew away from the Atlantic Conveyor with little fuel left. He later landed at Hermes.

Some missinformation. No Harrier performed VFFING in 1982, they fought as they were trained and slowing down during air combat makes you easy target. They fought dog fighting in normal maneuvers, the few air to air combats Argentine Daggers and Mirage III gained first shoot due their speed advantage but lost energy and their missiles failed due poor reliability of the old missiles then the British pilots outmaneuver them and fired the Limas. British pilots were trained with outdated sidewinders so they fired the 9Ls from the 6 as usual. The advantage they got was the the Limas had a higher reliability with new seeker heads and electronics, so unlike Argentine 9Bs and Saffirs they didn't lock on the sun, didn't lost targets doing high G evasion and could be launched from farther. Only 1 Mirage IIIC was lost to air combat. Fighter pilots were ordered to not merged in turn fights against Sea Harriers and Sea Harriers avoided Mirages coming hot supersonic and high staying out of their range, waiting 4 minutes and then proceeding, since the Mirages couldn't stay in the area due lack of air refueling. All other fighter losses except 2 Daggers, were fighter bombers, and 65% of them were lost to Royal Navy anti air missiles.
"No Harrier performed VFFING in 1982"(si) One SHAR attempted it in a futile attempt to down a Pucara. On the Folklands War, A British Maritime Said The Following: "They did what we never expected the Argentine Pilots to do; They were flying at sea level." Fun fact: The british soldiers saluted the Argentine soldiers when retreating from the islands, and they also recognized the skill of our pilots for flying so low!

When they first were added to the game, it seemed like they were less maneuverable than other jets at tier, as if they were constantly in compression. But now they seem to be flying a lot better. I have the GR.1 and GR.3, not the american ones, though.
If anybody wants to know more about how the harrier came to be and the pegasus engine I can highly recommend "not much of an engineer" by Stanley Hooker. The biography also goes over the merlin engine and early jet engines
Love the air spawn that makes facing them nearly impossible
Question: will your add some plane from Argentina, someday, in the game? im thinking about something like the IA-58 Pucará/Fenix, or the Pampa 3... they are good planes for ground atack, particularly the IA-63 Pampa 3.
Harrier AV-8C is in my top 5 favorite planes to fly in-game
I can't wait for the AV-8B Harrier II. The US Marines and Italian Navy still have them in service, and there's the Spanish Navy as well (maybe a premium for another tree, I don't know), and it's an even more beautiful aircraft. Finally, I could take up one of my favorite aircraft in history, if Gaijin actually gives it to Italy eventually.
Yes my fav plane! This was the first jet fighter I sat in! 😄
Also the most op plane....
Did you admit that you bought your way into the top tier?
@@snakethewarlord4685 I think he means in real life and even if he did buy it it doesn’t matter does it…
@@snakethewarlord4685 idk maybe it was when he had gotten to like right before jets? But most likely... Sadly
@@snakethewarlord4685 the tech tree harrier
Man. Cant wait for another Thunder Show episode
"Do you enjoy flying it?"
I'm getting started into war thunder and I am considering using the british tech tree as a main aircraft source just to fly the Harrier.
The only problem is that my computa can't run war thunder
same, tried many things to make it run but, nope. I had borrowed a HP Pavilion from my friend, but when he said that he had to go, I had to give back his laptop. Oh how I miss flying the Spitfire
@@rc_1234 I use a 2013 pc with a gt1030 and run the game on low/medium settings at 1080p@60fps. Should be around 150-200 euro/dollar to buy that as a used build nowayads so if you want to game for a low budget that might be a good option.
"No Harrier performed VFFING in 1982"(si)
One SHAR attempted it in a futile attempt to down a Pucara.
"Only 1 Mirage IIIC was lost to air combat."(sic)
One Mirage IIIEA was shot down by a SHAR flown by RAF Flt Lt Barton on 1 May. A second Mirage IIIEA was hit during the same engagement by RN Lt Thomas in a SHAR and then shot down by Argentine AAA.
I'm beginning to understand how you implement new vehicles, let me know if I'm close!
-Hype it in dev blog and make it power creep the game towards requiring new upper BR limit
-Spend 6 months actually playing it in game before realizing the attributes of said vehicle and then adjust BR of surrounding jets
-Release a video on youtube of your now-polished product with newly found knowledge of how to pilot the vehicle
So Harrier 2 when?? Haha
But yes, the Harrier is extremely fun to fly. On mountainous maps, I hover behind a hill/mountain and wait for prey to fly by, then I intercept and fire my Air to Air missiles. It’s worked many times. Sometimes the missile doesn’t reach the target though, but sometimes it does.
Ah, yes. The creative-mode aircraft capable of killing unaware people from 3km away.
AV-8A/C, of course.
On the Folklands War, A British Maritime Said The Following:
"They did what we never expected the Argentine Pilots to do; They were flying at sea level."
We lost the Folklands war, and since 1982, The UK Refused To Sell Us Anything Weaponry Related.
We may have outdated Mirages and A-4Q's, But we do have a strong soul for fightning!
Fun fact: The british soldiers saluted the Argentine soldiers when retreating from the islands, and they also recognized the skill of our pilots for flying so low!
I don’t even play war thunder but I love these videos
WT: Did you enjoy flying the harrier? Which one is your favorite?
Me: Yeah im gonna have to stop you there-
I love this guys voice
Attack The D Point!
Negative!
I agree!
Thank You!
No!
Attack the D Point!
I tell you what Bruce, this was a cracking video.
I like the aircraft but I prefer ww2 planes but hawker is probs my favorite aircraft company for the hurricane, typhoon and tempest mainly but the harrier is a icon worthy of the reputation it holds
Oh cool I just finished building a 1/72 scale model of the Harrier recently!
Never expected my little country Belize, to be mentioned in a war thunder video.
Gaijin: do you enjoy to fly with it? Me: i love it
the Harrier was one of the best jets in war thunder past Mig-21 and F-4 Phantom
Thank you to mention my country 🇦🇷, and a part of the story of the war of Malvinas. I'll prefer use the legendary Skyhawk and the Mirage. I hope that one day the M5 Dagger combat plane will be added in the game.
Falkland Islands
We must make the "My name is Giovanni Georgio, but everybody calls me Gorgio" meme with this plane's vertical take off lol
I managed to capture a tank cap zone with the av8c
I love the harrier GR. 1 but man the repair cost is still so high, I rarely go without losing more SL than gaining it
One of my favourite jets and my first rank 6 one, but the repair cost is a bit much
Oh look it’s the thing that wrecked the game for like a month
Stop. you are making me want to grind out the entire British tech tree
Do a video on the history of the ”Tunnan”, ”Lansen” or even ”Draken”
It pretty good i wait for RTN Skin
Repair cost though, that's a BIG turn down for me
Yup
13k not bad used to be 20k
@@cristobalalvarez5491 that's still not good with how much the gr.1 gets bullied by 11.0 you lose sl playing a premium. That is egregious.
Yeah. The American Harriers are much cheaper than the English ones despite being just about the same planes. Thanks Gaijin...
There was a point where I would play the GR3, get 3 kills, die and lose SL. It was like 28k SL to repair at the beginning of the patch, it's not as bad now (19k) but still kinda high
The only good thing about the Av-8a are the aim-9Gs at BR 9.3. Do I enjoy flying it? No.
But I enjoy it’s premium RP and SL modifiers so that I can grind for something better.
I can't wait to get my very own harrier in the next 3 years
?
I would like to enjoy my Gr.3 but for some reason it has a 15k repair cost but the AV-8C has a 5k repair cost
Got 2 questions
Is there a way to not fully extend the radar on the ZA-35?
And
Can you maybe do a quick small tutorial on the Starstreak HVM?
0:12 ah yes the Harriers are ascending again
Other than the T1 and T2, the last truly british military aircraft
Something I would request is the hover percentage meter the way you control it is strange because you have to use the air brake button every time you want to hover. ps: I am talking about Xbox about how you use the d-pad left to use it
Love the video and love the harrier I actually got to see one of these fly and I will never forget that feeling love that I can fly it myself on war thunder
This is great now can y’all add the early versions of the f-15 ? Or f-111
We need the F-16 Fighting Falcon and the Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker, too!
The mig 25 and f14 as well
Please lower the repair costs or atleast remove repair costs. I love the harrier in every way.
War Thunder now needs the Sea Harrier
It wasnt really a mirage it was a Kfir if I’m not mistaken and thus the aircraft was Israeli not French although I can’t wait for them to add it even tho it might not be the best it sure sparks joy of the patriotism in me
I love flying the Av-8
Even Indian military ordered these. Decommissioned in late 1990s. Replaced by Russian Sukhoi SU 30 and now by Dassault Rafael from France.
"Jets need a long runway"
Me: Laughs in Viggen
Thank you for existing
Harrier looks so muscular and cool
Love playing against these in my mig 15 and early sabres. Very realistic and fun
It’s good fun flying it but at 10.0 br , the gr.1 with no counter measures and almost all of the Time being upteired, often leaves you pretty defenseless against middles
WTF IS THAT SONG IN THE BEGINNING, ITS SO FIRE!!
