    It comes straight up. It is probably frozen on due to calcium build up or corrosion of the brass to zinc metals. I would gently tap it on the handle end upward and see if it will break loose. On a couple of mine I had to pull pretty hard. Just be careful.

    A few useful points in the video, but I found it frustrating because it was filmed too far away and key steps edited out. I would have found it more useful if the video was shot from a distance that the person doing the work would be viewing. Thank you for including instructions on removing the handle down in the comment section. That is the step I was looking for when I found this video.

    I agree with the comment below 100%. I looked for so many videos to see how I can open my faucet which is the same as this one, but you skipped the crucial part. What's the point?

    Interesting your other video mentions not using ball ended hex allen wrenches to prevent damage to the set screw. If you show how you remove the spring and rubber as well how you installed the cartridge that would be an excellent video.

    It all looks so easy...IF, the frigging nut comes off. In my case, on both faucet handles, the nut would not come off; turning it just turned the whole assembly. Underneath, I could see the square, flat plate threaded around the fitting where the two water lines entered. When turning the nut up above (as shown in the video), the fitting underneath would turn threatening to twist the water lines together (two lines going into each faucet handle from below. Now, my valve leaks are worse. I cannot get a wrench around the square, flat plate to tighten it, there isn't enough room and it is too thin. Any suggestions or advice on special tools available to put on the flat plate to tighten it?
    I also tried to hold onto the escutcheon with one wrench and turn the nut with another...to no avail.

    • @RHQ-uj4iq
      @RHQ-uj4iq 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      David (or others) - I'm having this exact same issue! When I use an adjustable wrench around the nut, the whole base turned also. How the heck do you anchor / hold the base still so the nut is the part that actually turns?! Many thanks.

    Thank you so much. The best video on faucet removal. I am changing my entire house faucets seals (18 yrs old). Most of them are easy to remove. A few stuck at the set screw. Clarification question? You mentioned the Tap 1/4x28NF. Then you mentioned Drilling with 3/32 followed by 5/32. Does the Tap and Drilling go together or do they serve separate purposes? Thanks

    Nice video; thanks. Unfortunately my professional plumber is unable to solve the problem after installing a new cartridge (RP24096) complete with 1/4 turn stop (RP2409) and new seat/spring RP4993. When installed the same direction as it was prior to removing the old cartridge the water does not turn off. However, it does turn off when rotated 180degrees ... but of course that means the handle is facing backwards . Any advice ?

    Yeah all of the stuff that I needed to see you skipped over. I needed to see ways to get the handle off I’m trying to get a Delta tub handle off that looks just like your sink one and it’s not coming off I also need to see how you got the spring out as well so this video ended up being useless

  • @redonKiLaus
    @redonKiLaus  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    They are American sized wrenches, not metric, because Delta was made in the USA. I use a dental pick to get the calcium build up off and then put the wrench in. If it is too caked up, you have to drill it out, and that is a mess and a difficult job.

    Do get the faucet off, you’ll need to remove the little rubbers pieces at the stem (red for hot, blue for cold usually) and stick the hex key (Allen wrench) in until it fits in the little tiny hexagonal screw socket and then turn until the socket is removed. Also, the video says use a 3/32 hex key but size can very. One of mine is 1/16th.

    I appreciate the video. I'm about to replace one of the stems in our master bath. Absolutely HATE plumbing... But,Vaseline can break down rubber. I wouldn't use it on the o-rings.

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't Vaseline, it is Krytox grease. It is made for O-Rings.

    • @txvstrom
      @txvstrom 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      #redonKiLaus I saw it and I heard the reference. However, the video narrative mentions that you can use vaseline. That particular comment is right around the 3:51 mark of the video. Vaseline is not made for o-rings. It will break down rubber.

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whoops, wasn't thinking when I made the video I guess. I don't even use Vaseline for...anything...so I don't even know where that came from. I'll add a note in the description to fix the issue. Thanks!

    • @JamesCurl_aka_RedonKiLaus
      @JamesCurl_aka_RedonKiLaus 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      txvstrom Hi txvstrom - note that Krytox grease should not be used for drinking or food sources if directly exposed to those food or drinking sources. In this case, for me personally, I am OK with using Krytox or Apiezon grease - they are expensive, but will last a long time and the o-ring location is to prevent water from weeping out of the fixture so I think exposure to any drinking water would be way, way low. Using Silicon Jel grease might work, as it won't deteriorate the o-rings, but doesn't have good lubrication. Plumbers o-ring grease is mostly petroleum product - almost just like Vaseline. There just isn't a perfect answer that I have found thus far. Also, we hope to make a video on how to drill out the set screw at some point in the near future - it is an easy job with the correct tools and a lot of patience. BTW, thanks for watching our channel.

    • @txvstrom
      @txvstrom 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Curl I've never used Krytox and never even heard of it. I can fix almost anything but I avoid plumbing because it brings out my anger issues. :)
      I just installed the stem/seat as it came out of the pkg. I figured the water in the housing would lube it sufficiently.

    What if your faucet doesnt have an Allen key to disassemble?

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that's the case, it may be a press fit, or might have hidden hardware...really depends on your exact model of faucet. Thanks for watching!

    We bought a Delta Peerless faucet a few years ago. After a couple of months all it did was drip about 300 gallons a week. We replaced nearly everything, rubber rings on the inserts, the inserts, swapped cold water side for hot water, bought new handles and cleaned adjusted, each time it got worse now it's a steady stream, swapped handles. Because of the cost (pumping running all the time, hot water heater running all the time 10 trips to the store, they refused to refund or replace the thing) we are not calling a plumber. I notice the handle was real sloppy and it couldn't be tightened down not even with a new insert or handle.

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      My best guess is that they unscrew, but one is probably right-hand threaded and one left-hand. I would consult with an experienced plumber, as it is easy to damage the faucet.

      Thanks for your reply - it turns out that it is a Moen "some-mock-italian-name" and the whole bulbous base unscrews - but it doesn't help because the part is way down in the "rough-out" and to reach & remove that one needs a special key.
      Fortunately Moen is a company true to it's principles and I called and waited a long time and they have sent the parts to fix it. I haven't tred to do so yet, snowed in (different dwelling).
