    Small confession, I am jealous as flip. I mean how much more envious can I get watching you have a great time with friends and fish and also be able to drink as much ocean water as you can collect. But here's the killer, you did it all yourselves. Bah, humble....love you guys.

    Tip- get yourself a plant mister, fill with fresh water. Spray over yourself and then turn on fan. The cooling by evaporation is divine...kept us sane in hot climates for many years. We have the same watermaker,now 25 years old and still working like a charm.

    Well done on the watermaker install.
    Warning: I ran my watermaker for 10 minutes with the raw water sea cock closed - cooked my impeller!
    Suggestion: 1. Run the watermaker for 5 minutes without making water everytime you turn it on. This prevents you from making smelly water caused by stale/old salt water that was standing in the piping.
    2. add an automatic freshwater flush to the watermaker system. Easy install and not expensive. Rainman sell them. It flushes the RO filter with freshwater after you make water and then weekly. It means you can use the watermaker intermittently or even leave the boat for months without needing to pickle the system. I have operated like this for years.

    Heads up on the brine. Mine was plumbed into the sink through hull. My through hull was bronze. It corroded to the point that on last haul out while removing seacock the through hull broke off. Could have sunk the boat. I believe the high salt content had something to do with it. I now exit brine through its own plastic through hull.

    Hey, just wanted to say I love yall. People keep asking about my Salt and Tar shirt and I always try my best to sell them on this great channel that goes from the snow pact north pacific to the subtropical in just, well, a little over a half decade. I have watched great building Vlogs that don't know how to transition into great sailing Vlogs and great sailing Vlogs that struggle to transition into building Vlogs. You are the benchmark in my opinion of going from a building to a sailing Vlog. Your boat was built for purpose and you are starting to live that purpose. Congratulations!

    Congratulations! Just a point on using water makers, on the seagoing tugs I have worked on , we never ran our water makers inside of three miles off shore. There is too much stuff, crud etc, in the water near land and it gunks up the machine. We use reverse osmosis water makers. Hope this helps

    If you are suck sealing dry goods you might want to chuck a desiccant packet and/or an oxygen depleting packet. One keeps it dry and the other kills anything that might have been in your raw materials.

    Grouper doesn't grill well, but, you can soak it in milk, then wrap it in foil with butter, lemon, garlic and herbs, and bake it on the grill. Or just pan fry it in lots of lemon, garlic butter... Then you can wash everything up in nice, FRESH water!

    A great feeling to know you are able to make fresh water at any time. I hope your added fittings and check valve don’t affect the rated flow rate through the water maker due to additional back pressure as well as being a source of leaks into the boat. Any easy fix when the correct fittings are available. We used a shower bag for many years in the Great Lakes and found that it heats up better if it’s laid horizontally on the deck (black side down). You are living a great life! Have fun.

    I might have just run the two separate small reject lines all the way to the sink. It lets you see whats going on and the small tubing is easier to route. In any case, this has to be a happy moment - if you have to find harbor every time you need fresh water, it can put a cramp in your style. 😊

    Food savers suck...
    Wow, two fans for Ruth.. You spoil her.
    The boat becomes a little bit more complex each day with all the plumbing and electrical systems being added. They day I would not look forward to is the day when things stop working and you can't remember what is what and it all just looks like a mountain of spaghetti. If you're not creating detailed documentation as you install these things, someday you'll wish you had.

    • @chrisincalifornia
      @chrisincalifornia ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the beauty of building it all yourself - you know EVERY system because you built and/or installed them all. ✌🏼

    • @fredflintstone8048
      @fredflintstone8048 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chrisincalifornia From personal experience I can state that even though you did it all yourself, in time you will forget what is what. He was scratching his head for a few minutes when it wouldn't work until he remembered (or had to check, we don't know) that he forgot to connect the negative terminal to the battery and that was within a day or two?
      As an engineer who's built many systems electrical and mechanical, and written thousands of lines of computer code, you will forget what you did in time. Happens to everyone, and the more you do, the more you'll forget. The longer a system works the more time you spend away from that system, and the more you will forget.
      Experienced engineers/builders know to make good documents, especially of the electrical systems.
