What other plants should I try to grow emersed??
And more of my emersed plant video links in description ☺️

I've been growing plants for 10 years emersed. I don't mean to step on your friends toes but you don't need a fan. You need to keep humidity above 90% for anubias. Your set up looks good similar to what I use. Except I use coconut fiber pots with potting soil. I set it up and ignore it for 6 months. My lid is a piece of glass I had cut at the hardware store. I cut the corner off the lid just enough for the heater and pump wires. The plants create enough oxygen and co2. I do get a lot of mold and fungus but it don't effect the plants. I mix crushed coral with my potting soil. I don't change the water or anything. I just set it up and forget it. I get monster sized anubias mother plants with 30+ leaves. I've grown anubias petites but when emersed they start to covert back to full grown anubias.

I've grown a ton of aquatic plants emersed. The most challenging and fulfilling are my cryptocoryne. There are many different species that are equally beautiful from blackwater pools to limestone river beds. To get them to root, grow and flower from a bare rhizome is the ultimate high 👍 Welcome to the emersed addiction my brother 😂

I keep primarily cryptocoryne. You can certainly use terrestrial soil. There are several mixes I use depending on the species of crypt. The issue with soil is the nutrient dump that happens when first submerged. Especially in a clay pot with one hole, the nutrients are concentrated and can melt the roots of your plant. You can safeguard against this a couple ways. You can age your soil. Leave your pot submerged for at least a month before you plant. Or if you can't wait, create a hole and fill it with inert sand. You can nestle the rhizome into the sand so the nutrients slowly leach into the root zone. The other issue I find with soil is compaction of the soil, you can remedy this by mixing it with a crushed aggregate (lava rock, eco complete, etc) that will encourage root formation. Again many ways to do the same thing. The last issue is mold. In a high humidity setup requiring >70% humidity mold is an issue. I echo the use of springtails to help safeguard this as well as ventilation. However I don't use a fan, I just have passive cross ventilation. Also the use of rainwater or bottled water may help, but mostly the most effective for me are the spring tails. I keep almost 90% constant humidity with no issues. My setup has been up for almost a year now. You can check out some of my emersed pots here instagram.com/p/CZ2_K7pLppJ/? Love your bids Ryo, keep it up and pm me if you have any questions! 🙏☺️

Ooooooh I like it! Great idea. I would love to see some buce in there. And maybe rotalas, hydrocotyle, hygrophila pinitafida (sp?). But buce and anubias and crypts are my current faves. Great job.

Love these cool little diy setups. Do you just set them up for fun and keep them emersed or do you use it more to grow plants quickly so they have more access to CO2 and stuff and then then add them to the aquarium to grow submerged? Would be cool to see how you do that if you do and how you prep them or if you just let them die back then regrow.

Cryptocoryne affinis in submersed form is absolutely different. It has deep green upper part of leave and dark red bottom part or some red veins on bottom of leaves. If you had it once you will be never confused to identify affinis.
Yours look like young submersed Wendtii brown form.

I've grown A.B.Petite in deli containers that have the flip over lids. this way I don't need to vent the container or use tape to seal container. no fan, no heater. 2 inch aqua soil & 1 inch water over the plants and away we go. once they grow out of the water, bring on the springtails to help with mold, fungus, surface algae

Great video! I have a similar set up but I used a plastic bin with LECA as the bottom layer, a mesh barrier, and then potting soil all in an aquarium with a lid to keep humidity up. Works like a charm! I also added springtails to the bin with soil to prevent mold growth

  • @jamesleiser5240

I think you should really consider removing the glass aquarium heater and look into another solution. If you get too much evaporation and don't remember to keep the water over that heater, you will have problems. I do something like this with no heater in a room at 66F or more depending on the weather. You can also have fun with things like mosses and getting them attached to drift wood with a setup like this.
