I hate having people always say a year prepares them for the nba. It's just an extra year for scouts to nitpick. If anything it's mostly a lose lose for draft picks especially for these two who should be top 5. Just look at BJ boston last year lol. He was supposed to be lottery and he got dropped heavy. This is preparing them any different. If it was preparing them better then every player would go here. If you're good, you can thrive anywhere. There are few coaches that make players better. Not even Phil Jackson made players better. He had MJ, Kobe, Shaq lol. The only coach that you can say will make the players better is Popovich.

This is a repeat of the 2007 (38 and 2 season record) team which had Derrick Rose, Antonio Anderson, Robert Dozier, Joey Dorsey, Chris Douglas Roberts (CDR) and they made it all the way to the title game only to lose to a 3 point shot made by Mario Chalmers of Kansas. I believe that this group has more depth and can win a national title. Plus Emoni has 2 years before he can go to the NBA so I don't think a lot of pressure will be on him whether he says at Memphis next year or goes the G-league route

There are some parallels to the 2007-08 Memphis team with these elite recruits joining several core experience upperclassmen. But its worth noting that 2007 Memphis team had already been to 2 consecutive elite 8's and were a top 5 team for almost 3 full years when Rose joined them.

What nobody is noticing or mentioning is the team that Memphis already has in place. Penny is building a culture with HIS guys. Now they are juniors and seniors and that will help a lot with bringing in the young guys like Bates, Duren, Ayomide, Camden, Minott, Timberlake, and the Lawsons
The team is looking solid for sure. Penny can go get those one and done players but also get players who will stick around for a few years. These athletes like playing for Penny so he gonna have a good recruiting class every year.
They didn't even make the tournament last season so no it's not championship or bust, it's simply go as far as your talent and coaching will take you...that's with any team.

I say at least make it to the Sweet 16… The staff is still very young and I think they are still figuring it out as well! I think they will make it to the Elite 8 just depends on what side they end up on… Want to avoid Michigan and Gonzaga as long as possible and maybe see Texas in Final 4… It’s going to be very interesting… Glad I’ll be at every home game and nearby away 💪🏾💪🏾

This team might have the best defense in school history. That was the mane reason we won nit last season. Even though 2 of out mane defensive helpers are gone dj and cisse. We also have good offense on top of adding these new recruits. Now its just up to the coaching staff to call the right plays
And Jalen Duren will be a great addition for the defense he can block shots and grab rebounds. a lot of Championship DNA on the coaching staff I they going to be good
I've been watching Memphis basketball since Keith Lee was here.. this was in the early 80's. I witnessed the magic of Penny in the early nineties. This season is exciting for the fans.
The fact your putting championship pressure on two teenagers who haven’t played a minute of college basketball yet is ridiculous. Yes we can appreciate their talent and expect good things from them but to come out and say win it all or bust isnt right.

It’s not a cChampionship or Bust season. This is the 2nd #1 class in 4 years and it will continue for years to come. This season will be special because it’s year 4 for Head Basketball Coach Penny. The foundation has been set and reloading has started. This is not a all Freshman team and that alone makes the Tigers a legitimate contender. Let’s see if they can get better than 38-2 put up by the 07-08 Tiger traen.

Duren is 6-9 not 6-10 but he plays like he's 6-10. I am also concerned with the corrupt NCAA trying to stop them by banning the Tigers from the tournament. Penny's crashed Calioari's house party and they don't like that. If they get to play then I think they can be special and make a deep tournament run. But a win it all or bust is unfair to them and to Penny.

We only will start 2 freshman ..we have Juniors and Seniors in our starting line up and this is Penny's second number 1 recruiting class and he's only coached 4 years...this is not going to stop...we will continue to have success.
Penny hasn’t done anything yet. The conference Memphis is in is also a bottom feeder. The team has a green coach and won’t be battle tested come March.
They should at least make the tournament this year with this roster. And Memphis doesn't play a lot of ranked teams so yea you could be right they won't be battle tested come March

we got athletes, but they gotta learn how to play basketball together and they need a leader bc we are so young.
Well we have a few juniors on the team and they played well in the nit. We just couldn't beat Houston and we seen how far they went.

Mayhap they won't win the big one. But if you're a long time tigers fan.. claiming they'll never win the NCAA tourney.. this is the type of fans Memphis can do without. I'm not trying to be an ass here. But in Memphis we already have way too many boo bugs in the crowd. It's like they already Expect Memphis to lose. As if our city.. we're not worthy of championships. Will Memphis ever be as successful on the court as Kansas Duke or North Carolina? Putting multiple championship banners up in our arena? Likely not.. as you've stated. Only an optimist could believe it possible. I'm an optimist.. but also I'm aware of reality. As you've said it is unlikely.. but with college basketball miracles do happpen. And this attitude of being winners is a trait only successful ppl achieve. Memphians are excited and fortunate that we have Penny as our coach. Able to land several top recruits for multiple reasons i won't go into now. I'm eager and excited to see our team play this year. You obviously know nothing about the team. How would be compared to the fab 5?? We only will start 2 freshman ..we have Juniors and Seniors in our starting line up and this is Penny's second number 1 recruiting class and he's only coached 4 years...this is not going to stop...we will continue to have success.
Penny hasn’t done anything yet. The conference Memphis is in is also a bottom feeder. The team has a green coach and won’t be battle tested come March.
They should at least make the tournament this year with this roster. And Memphis doesn't play a lot of ranked teams so yea you could be right they won't be battle tested come March
