It's unbelievable to think that this place has been around for over 110 years serving just the basic hamburger on toast. The hamburger must really be good.
I thought they had the sign made special for them until I saw it in several other places. They are nice people and I judge their burgers are great ... even without ketchup.
My family was the first to serve hamburgers open faced on sandwich bread in Baltimore in the 1780s, they had it with onion, cheese, bacon and an over easy egg on top. Oh and my family was the first to create the batters for corn dogs and onion rings. Yep and we also created electricity, lasers, the internet, the cell phone, RC cola, the Swiss knife and and and uh,KETCHUP! All before 1894.
You want the BEST BURGER ever made ? Well then go to Meriden CT to a Place Called TED'S Restaurant and get a Steamed Cheeseburger. Without a doubt the greatest burger i have ever eaten. Steaming a cheeseburger is the way to go. The place has been featured on MAN V's Food and Hamburger haven's on the travel channel I moved to Meriden 3 yrs ago and I have to say TED's was my one reason for staying here.
yeh, but that is part of the "ambiance" of the place. They make such a big deal about it that people come in just to tease them. And, the burgers taste great without the ketchup.
Ya know, I should know ... but I don't. I was so busy doing the videography that I didn't pay close attention. All I can say is that the hamburger tasted fantastic. The Guy on camera took a bite out of the burger intended for me. Sheesh.
Well...we were on a video assignment to make this clip. So please don't shoot the messenger. They do seem to make a good case for being authenticated as being the first hamburger. My question is, why is it called a "hamburger" when there is no "ham" in it? We ran into this problem with some friends from Nepal, who do not eat beef, and ate a "hamburger" thinking it was ham.
Louis Lunch is not the home to the first American hamburger. Athens, Texas is the home to the first American hamburger, get your facts straight. The first hamburger in America was created by Fletcher Davis around 1880s, he served it at his café at 115 Tyler Street in Athens, Texas. Then he brought them to the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
"No Ketchup becouse thay dont want it affecting the taste" then thay slam a tomato and onion on it? Also. if i want ketchup on it, i'll have it on it... even if i gave to take my own....

That is really funny haha. People like you make it worthwhile to surf youtube!
Yeh, you can taste it in the hamburger. And they are nice people.
LOL making that old ass man make burgers with his arthritic hands.
@RZetlin Since the meat is freshly ground there's really nothing wrong with eating it raw. Ever heard of steak tar-tar?
Yuck eating raw ground beef!

Thanks for your kind reply. Served with cheese, onion and tomato . . . That's it.
I agree, toast does add a different flavor. Thanks for your comments. Have a fantastic week.
I asked for a burger and they broke both my arms. Bit harsh.
Well, I find that hard to believe. I will ask them the next time I am in there.

To do the video shoot we went after closing. The place is really small and so as to not interrupt the customers they asked us to come later.
dude i had ketchup on it and it makes it 10 times better then it is now
