Surge XT is free and it's by far my favorite VST. It has so many cool sounds and even ambient sounds. They update it daily and I could sit for hours and hours playing with it. Try it guys! It's worth it!
Tom, it's Henry from college days. I was literally just searching for ambient VSTs and came across your channel 😂 Great to see you're doing well brother
Subscribed. I so enjoy getting lost in the joy of creating ambients. Manually adjusting dials as an instrument as opposed to pre programming and arranging on a DAW. It has its place , but it is so different the feeling of creating and flowing. Cheers man
Shocked this plugin is for free.. Insanely usable This free plug in made me invest in all of his plugs just for offering this one for free Sick on synths
I've been slowly learning things about what you are showing, and I love this whole topic, but I can't help but mention: You are giving me huge Tony Anderson vibes, especially with the felt upright and how you play it! Anyway, love Valhalla Supermassive and it sucks me in for hours playing with the super long decays.
It's funny you mentioned Nova in the whatever you had section. I used Ableton intro for two years, and intro doesn't have EQ 8, the 'stock' EQ in the Ableton tutorials. I ended up using nova as my primary EQ for most of that time, and it's wonderful. Four bands with low and high cuts, the dynamic settings are intuitive and useful. I will warn that it is set to gain main by default so if you are aggressively high passing your hihats it will crank the volume. That fooled me a number of times. But from my experience; Nova is great. But it's also what I had, and making music is more important than new stuff even if thst stuff is free.
Nice to see Bubbler getting some love! I've been using that for years but you hardly ever see it featured in videos like this. I usually add some octaves and reverse with guitar, it's like a free Microcosm pedal. Have to say I was expecting more than just two plugins, but there's some lovely examples here. Emergence is another great free granular plugin, there's Deelay, Stone Voices Ambient Reverb, even Valhalla have a few more free ones that nobody seems to look at. Surely Paulstretch is an obligatory mention too? 😅
Thank you for sharing! Also, these reverbs sound amazing if mixed with (not passed through) ambient noises (forest sounds, water from a brook, crashing waves by the sea, soft winds blowing, etc.).
This is the first video of yours that I've seen (the first that YT recommended to me) and I've subscribed immediately. Beautiful presentation, and excellent examples. And I agree about Valhalla Supermassive! I don't know if it is YT compression or what, but your felt piano coming through my headphones, has a distinct thump at the start of each note/chord.
Other awesome free stuff that’s great for ambient music: -Deelay by Sixth Sample (can’t suggest this one enough, great alt for Echo Boy) -Magic Dice by Baby Audio (also go ahead and get the free Pitch Drift and Magic Switch) -Spitfire LABS series -MINIMA (forget the company name but it’s like LABS) -U-HE has free synths and I think a free reverb as well -Starlight by Chaos Audio (shimmer verb)
you have opened a huge panorama of possibilities for me to investigate I guess ambience with a bit of a hard edge is my passion and I think Valhalla will assist Thanks for the uplifting and tasteful video
I'm not sure it was already a thing at the time of this video, but there is now a free Fabfilter Pro-Q3 alternative : ZL Equalizer from ZL Audio. It offers 16 bands, several filter types and stereo modes, and each band can be dynamic with adjustable threshold, attack and release. All that with a GUI as intuitive as (and obviously inspired by) Pro-Q3.
Thank you for the examples, Tom. Valhalla Supermassive should be a paid plugin so the developer at Valhalla giving it for free is a very kind gesture, considering how everyone loves their plugins and would buy it anyway. That upright piano sounds so beautiful and intimate. What vst strings did you use at around 6:12?
💥 Can you help me with this ? I use electronic pianos, but they sound very plastic and flat. In the real world, an acoustic piano sound is captured by using microphones over them, and to give a warm tone, we place other microphones nearby, to capture the room acoustic and even the instrument distance is essential. Is there any VST plugin to simulate placement of the microfones on the ambient ? I was thinking about putting 2 mics near my speakers, just to capture the room reflections and add to the output sound, because it's not so simple as adding a reverb to the piano channel. Any tips ? Thanks in advance. 🎉❤❤
Nice! Super Massive sounds very similar to my Strymon Cloudburst pedal that I paid almost $300 USD for. 😂🤦🏻 I love your workspace and your music is lovely.
@@sarahhey8654 I think they mean that this one is a delay that can be turned into something that resembles a reverb (Via the warp knob). Either way it's not a reverb plugin
Legend has it, SixtyPercentOfInfinity is still reverbing on.

That piano demo was transcendent my guy. You turned into Jon Hopkins for a minute 🙏

Tom doesnt remember Henry
@TomLJWhite Please read this....
Henry, a lot of producers have zero time to read these comments.
@@androgynastronautohh super producer with 14k subs is too busy reading the comment under his video and replying 😅
Sure Sure…
the piano sounds really good even without any effects !

Gosh this piano just sounds incredible on its own!
Hadn't heard of Bubbler before and after playing it, is now one of best FX I have (and I have a lot of FX)
Especially the "Density" Knob is GREAT when you automate it!

This is by far the most inspiring video i have seen in years. Thank you so much, I cant wait to be back in my studio tomorrow.

Biggest fan on spotify! every time i study i listen to you.
even with no processing that guitar sounded amazing !! is what they say, it's not about what plugins, it's about the music itself!
7:44 This is beautiful, i want to learn to play like this....

It needs a low cut filter
That Piano @8:00 sounded magical. Is there something being used along with the SixtyPercentOfInfinity?
Much appreciated. I use Supermassive since early versions. Fantastic free plugin.

Cool vid
The sound of the piano hammer mechanism thought the delay is amazing
Yeahhhhhhhh

Thanks for this, I already have Supermassive and Bubbler but you gave me some ideas, just a different approach is sometimes all you need!
Glad to see you’re still around! I love your videos!
sick calming video, keep it up
hello ! do you know Paul X Strech ? this is insane for pad !!
Yup, PaulXStretch is incredible for pads or long textures!
Hi, thanks for this video. But what is the synth you are using at 3:35? Synthplus? synthplucks? It looks interesting but I can't find it.
It must be the best free plugin ever made! I even forgot i got it for free. Bought the valhalla delay and it os superb
Very peaceful music keep it up your onto something. And good tips as well
Thank you for the examples, Tom.

Hi. What is the virtual instrument on 10.28 ?
And what do You thing about Polywerse music plugins for ambient music ?
Thank you this is amazing work you are doing
My windows cant download Sounhack. Can I bypass this?
Brilliant video. I also could not get my head around the TDR Nova interface 😆
Nice video I am new to music production I found this very helpful thanks
Are all these available for free in both VST and AU formats? Thanks!
Very grateful I've found your channel mate. thanks
Thank u for that black hole plugin. That shit is one of if not the best reverb I’ve found 🔥🔥🙌🏾

I love your workspace and your music is lovely.
Great job on the Supermassive examples!
Your felt piano sounds amazing without Valhalla. With Bubbler if you start out clean and slowly morphed to full effect it wouldn't awesome.
Nothing but love bro 👊
What an awesome video! Your energy is great!
Wicked video. Appreciate the time and detail put into this👍👊
How do you create the felt piano on the upright?
I anticipated the bubbler sound as soon as i heard the name. 😇
Great video! Very helpful . Thanks a lot!
Hi, I am a beginner and would like to know which DAW you are using in the background? Thanks in advance
Logic Pro, in case your still wondering
You’re an amazing musician.
What about Altiverb ??????????
BTW: Same but even nicer is NI Replica X.....makes a nice pad aut of everything ;-)
Really appreciate this! Thank you!!

Nice one mate cheers!
Thank you for this video btw
Cool beans thank you!😅

Fun fact i disc0vered after years: The valhalla reverb is a delay.
Is there reverb plugins that aren’t delays? I don’t understand how it works haha
All reverbs are lots of delays blended together in various amounts...
@@sarahhey8654 thank you!

Great video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your favourite free plugins. Very helpful 😀
'noice'
came for some free plugins; transcended space
I do not play anything, but this was still throughly enjoyable.
My cpu would self destruct with Valhalla & bubbler together
Piano took me far away❤
The guitar sounded like the hello neighbor title theme.
i have mic envy
