The tour stop in Philadelphia (tower theater) was my 1st ever concert at 14 yrs old! Presented George with a stuffed bear and he sent me a thank you postcard! My mom called the school to tell me. Imagine my surprise when I was suddenly called to the principal office thinking I was in trouble and it was my mom on the phone telling me I had mail from Boy George! She was so excited she couldn't wait until i got home from school to tell me. 😃
it’s so sad that I feel like we’re regressing with all these incels and toxic masculinity as of late being spewed all over social media. If Boy George had come out right now with his music and his persona, he would be heavily put down.
🔆🔆 What an amazing gift this was today. On December 13, 1984 I just turned 23 (the day before). There is no way for me to describe how much George has meant to me since the release of their first single in the U.S.🔆🔆 I have never stopped listening to his music, which means I've been listening to him since 1982, when I was 21 years old. At age 63 (as of yesterday), I still love him and his music just as much today as I did back then. 🔆🔆 Boy George finally came to my city here in the U.S. in 2018 and I was able to meet him. There are no words to describe how I felt actually meeting him and discovering that he is every bit as kind and sweet as I imagined he would be. I have amazing photos with him. 🔆🔆 What has absolutely made my fall so exciting this year too is the re-release of Kissing to Be Clever on vinyl again, and now this month, Colour by Numbers has been re-released on vinyl. I feel like I'm in my 20s again!! 🔆🔆
In the previous work Color by Numbers, there is a scene at the end of the music video for "Miss Me Blind" where someone is shouting mera mera to moeteiru! passionately while trying to extinguish flames. Could this be connected to the album title ?
I never would have survived without his music…I was 19 jn 84 I left home at 17.. went to California ..I just wanted to be me! Love him! He was like my best friend .. I cried to his music I laughed an danced to his music…. I still dance in my kitchen now at almost 60
There was a kid at the Boys Club who mimicked Boy George. He got tuned up daily. I didn’t get it. I stayed out of it because I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. So one day he came up to me looking for a shoulder to cry on. Needless to say I told the other guys and they gave him another tune up. He later brought a weapon to school and deleted himself next to the canal behind campus. Thankfully he didn’t hurt other innocent people . Always thought he had mental issues. Still I liked Culture Club
A fantastic artist right from the start .In 1984 I was 18yold , I remember being confused seeing culture Club for the first time , it was something very out of the ordinary at that time yet extremely good !
Oh my…. An official release?!! I remember being there for this tour in Hampton, Virginia, USA in September 1984. I never thought I’d be able to relive this night of pure pop perfection in its entirety. What a beautiful 40th anniversary present to us all, to the very day! Thank you to Culture Club’s entire team for making this happen. Bravo!
I remember all this like it was yesterday...then it hit me it's been 40yrs & think of how the world has changed several times in 40yrs! What's incredible is that Culture Club had already recorded all their greatest Hits by this point. I still remember 1st time I ever saw or heard of Boy George on TV 2yrs earlier in 1982 when they were still relatively unknown (just after they released their 1st single "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me") on ABC's "Good Morning America" as I recall. At this time Boy George had very long hair as seen on the cover of "Kissing to be Clever" with tons of makeup & at 1st I thought he was a woman but as the interview progressed realized he was a man.lol Way back in 1982 there was nobody who looked like Boy George! I loved their music immediately & became a huge fan. Years later I had a GF from England who told me she'd been good friends with Boy George & his family (same hometown) since he was 1st starting out totally unknown around 1980 or so performing in little tiny clubs. She used to tell me how she'd talk to him & the family by phone & he'd be telling her stuff he was working on years later post Culture Club. His music had changed substantially by that point & I remember telling her to tell Boy George for me that he should really return to what made him so successful in the 1st place & reunite with the other members of Culture Club again & ditch the unpopular solo stuff he was experimenting with. For what it's worth it wasn't too long after that it appears he agreed & did just that which I was really happy to see. Like so many very talented young singers when they 1st make it they get seduced by drugs & bad influences & lose their way like he did. Sometimes after years of missteps & addiction they finally get it all back together & make a comeback returning to their roots. I'm glad to see Culture Club reunited & touring again!
I remember going to this concert in Dallas. Once the opening song was finished, Boy George said something to the effect of, “...and they thought Culture Club couldn’t rock.”
Thank you for releasing the live footage where both the visuals and sound have been beautifully revived. Isn't this one of the most glamorous performances among Culture Club's live shows ? Boy George sings like a powerful and elegant beauty. the best live performance for me is Live in Seattle 1983 MTV Concert. Would it be possible to revive this live show as beautifully as this one ?
I never saw Culture Club in the early days, but I remember wanting to! Of course, I had rude friends who wondered why but how can you not like this music!!!
my ex husband used to pick on me about my music choices. he'd say, "you know they are gay?" i would ignore him. now i don't have to listen to that abuse. i listen to him and any other music because i love it. gay, straight or other i don't judge, and we shouldn't judge someone else on what they listen to.
Gay or not doesn’t reflect the talent and treasured memories that Boy and the crew left on us. I can pinpoint my Jr & Sr year of High school off of these jams.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for releasing this in full! This is such an iconic and underrated era. This was Boy’s FIERCEST look and that album is one of their BEST! This quality is impeccable! Thank you! 💘✈️🐉☮️♐️

Nevertheless, I'm ECSTATIC to see this beautiful video, 40 years to the day after it was performed.
Exciting news, my loves, I’m back in Moulin Rouge! on Broadway! 🎭✨ This one’s for all of you, and I’d love to hear from you personally. Guess what? I’ve got a surprise waiting for you! Culture Club! The quality in this footage is absolutely incredible. You're talking 40 years ago. 1984 is a very important year for me as a boy.
I agree. The sound and video seem state of the art.
