I am usimg the SD Powerstage as a poweramp into my Palmer cab with a 1 x 12 Celestion Creamback for a while now.
I was really sattisfied with the volume and sound it delivers, that is until i recently compared it head to head with the poweramp section of my Randall 50 Watt Tube combo going from my pedalboard with tube preamp into the eff return off the Randall.
The difference is day and night!
That tube poweramp section of the Randall has so much more clarity and headroom. The whole sound is much better, the blanket is gone.
I really did not expect that big of a difference so now i am back to all tubes again.
That would be a great back up power amp for my Kemper rig. Small enough to hide in the rack and only a few moments to substitute for the power amp. The show must go on.☝
Yes, ideal use case! Thanks for watching and commenting.
In some cases (when I do not wish to carry around a amp head) I run my pedalboard through the 700, in a wet/dry stereo config. But it can also be run in mono, if I downsize even further and only use a single 12" instead of a 2x12" or 4x12. The line of power amps Seymour's got is all you could ask for.
Just got my power stage 170 in today and plan on using my mater effects super400 preamp pedal on it
I use the powerstage 170 with my master effects preamp pedal of a Mesa boogie 400
Can we see how inside look?
hi..thnx for the info..I just ordered a powerstage 200..I already have a boss me90 and a vox 112 cab..what do you think?.. a good live back line rig??
I have one of these! I bought it originally to power the signal from VSTs on my laptop, but went back to traditional amps. At the moment I've got a 15w EVH lunchbox which is wonderfully practical and sounds great, but lacks that headroom. do you think I could use the powerstage to beef up the lunchbox head and, if so, where would you run it? between the head and cab, or in the effects loop? great vid!
Hey, thanks man! Yeah, definitely run the FX send from the head into the Powerstage. Remember the EVH will still need to see a load though.
What is you wanted to set the tone controls to a flat response, using it with a Kemper?
Using this Powerstage 170 on an 8 ohm FRFR Matrix I believe I would get 85w, not 170w from the Powerstage 170. Would it still sound loud enough to play with a band in rehearsals and play with a band live?
Great question - For my needs I find it's loud enough for rehearsal and anything over a small show I would expect the guitar cab to be mic'd into a PA, but it really depends on how loud your overall band mix is. I think it's probably powerful enough but if you're concerned then maybe look at the 200 or the 700.
I have a MXR Fullbore Metal pedal that i use as a preamp into the PowerStage 170. I would like to add my reverb and digital delay pedal into the chain as well....how would the pedal chain look? Also i connect the PowerStage into a 2x12 cab. Thank you in advance.
Guitar -> MXR -> Delay -> Reverb -> PowerStage 170
If you look at the back panel of this amp. You will see there the power consumption is 55 watts. Power out put is 170 watts. What sorcery is this????? Hard to believe that a respectable company such as Seymour Duncan would lie in front of your face!
Thats at 16ohms. Right next to that inscription, there is another inscription that says 170w at 4ohms. Look closer.
@@KiLLJOY1056 Power consumption = power output + power dissipation. If power consumption is 55 watts, then power output is less than 55 watts. The maximum theoretical power output at 100% efficiency is equal to power consumption that is 55 watts. That is basic laws of physics. Law of conservation of energy. It is never possible that output power is greater than power consumption. Also it is never physically possible to create a device that has an efficiency rating that is equal to or greater than 100%.
Its not loud enough to use live at 8 ohms .
120 db from test at 8 ohm... not loud enough... ok
xd
I play in metal band and my chain is : helix - PS170 - 4x12 at 16 Ohms. 60% of volume is enough for destroy my drummer
Its loud enough, my brother uses it in our band, i go trough harley benton gpa 100. Works like a charm
