      Her routines were designed around the new code of points at the time. Certain connections and leaps. Her stoned face only made her routines boring. Although I do think she had more potential but she just followed orders for her coaches glory for their government. I think that's why she never looked like she had any personality.

      Under the 1993-1996 COP, an acrobatic series of at least two elements was required. However, unlike the current COP, a salto was not required to be part of the acrobatic series. Gogean’s back handspring step out + back handspring to two feet portion of her dismount series fulfilled the requirement at the time.

    Sadly these performances WERE Forgettable in 1996. Overshadowed by GREAT USA performances but even by Gina's standards from her earlier years these were some of her MOST stock routines. I first saw her in 89 and thru 1992 she was a VERY exciting gymnast with HIGH difficulty on ALL events. Hard vault, crazy combo's on bars at Euro 92, full beam difficulty and full in in some cases off it to boot, and MAD paced choreo with FAST combo whip thru to combo's on floor. But after 92 the only thing that remained of interest were her EXTREME cat-like stick landings that impressed me and her flare, but everything else had been lost unfortunately. Others her age increased they difficulty like Shannon etc but Gina seemed to go the other route even if it still spoke to the code it was to basic and I lost interest.

    • @Zarumaans
      @Zarumaans ปีที่แล้ว +3

      USA great performances?? Apart from Shannon, USA had atrocious form on most of their skills with bent knees, flexed feet, cowboyed summersaults, crossed legs on twisting skills, lack of amplitude on many of their skills and etc. just to name a few. Luckily, during that era, the scores didn't reflect those obvious problems at all. Whereas the Chinese were the ones that really stood out. They had immaculate form and execution but unfortunately it didn't give them any advantage in terms of scoring. They did much more difficult leaps that got credited exactly the same as the much easier US leaps for instance.
