Uganda Airlines won't get profitable until they get up to industrial scale in fleet size. A Proper Business MASTERPLAN that includes A NEW AIRPORT and a NEW AVIATION ACADEMY to train all Staff is vital in making Uganda Airlines a success. The business plan is to shuttle International passengers with Uganda as the main hub. Just like any other business. You get more money from 600 Acres compared to 6 Acres. You get more money from 1200 Trucks compared to 12 Trucks. And still there is no Guarantee of Profit. To get to a large fleet size, Uganda should have a Masterplan to build a large NEW AIRPORT on land area of 40 km2 for at least 160 million Passengers with at least 4 runways. It should be built in Phases as needed. Phase 1 - 1 Terminal and 2 runways - up to 40 million Passengers. Phase 2 - 2 Terminals and 2 runways up to 80 million Passengers. Phase 3 - 3 Terminals and 3 runways up to 120 Million passengers. Phase 4 - 4 Terminals and 4 runways up to 160 Million passengers. This is cheaper in the long run than building a New Airport, whenever the Old airport reaches Max capacity. RwandAir is still not yet profitable since it started in 2010 and yet it has 12 Planes and Govt. of Rwanda has spent Billions. They are planing to sell 49% Shares to Qatar Air. Qatar Air who understands the Aviation industry better, wants to expand the New Bugesera Airport in Rwanda to 2 runways instead of 1. Many other African Airlines are also struggling with profitability. Ethiopian Airlines is the most Profitable in Africa and they have 134 Planes. And they started off 1945 by hiring Aviation PROFESSIONALS from the US of the TWA Airlines who in addition to running the New Ethiopian Airline, built an Aviation Academy and the Maintenance infrastructure for the new Airline. Giving self-sufficient training for Pilots, Aircraft Technicians, Cabin Crew, Catering, Marketing, Sales, Management and Finance Staff, for the New Airlines. Ugandans and Uganda Airlines should learn from this. The Soroti Flying school trains only Pilots and Aircraft Technicians but not the rest. It needs to be Expanded to train the rest. Or build a new Modern Aviation Academy on its 500 acres. Replacing the ageing Pilot training planes and providing Modern flight simulators for Airbus and maybe Boeing or others. As for Salaries Uganda should hunt for the BEST people with experience in the Aviation Industry, and pay them High Salaries in order to Attract them. Thats what the Emirates Airlines also did to get the big Guys like Tim Clark from UK to work for them, when starting the airline in 1985. Today Emirates has a fleet of 264 Planes and still some years are not Profitable. Uganda Airlines without a Proper Business Masterplan that includes A New Airport and a New Aviation Academy to train all its Staff, will remain a Small and Unprofitable airline. Wasting Taxpayers money in Billions.
Maybe the oil will be better managed than Uganda airlines, otherwise we are greatly worried especially if the auditor general raises concerns and little or nothing is done.
It's Not only uganda Airlines that is mismanaged, the whole of uganda is mismanaged
