The amount of money the state collects as a whole should be more than enough to run the entire state and counties within. A one time purchase tax on the home should be it. If anything, a maximum of 2k a year on each house would be more than enough. Instead of taxing on improvements done. Which had always been ridiculous and just greedy. Personally I don't like how money in our country is managed and would like to be part of the solution.
Seeing first hand how contracts can work out of the favor of tax payers, money can be wasted quite easily. I may have to apply for the job in my own city once I'm out the service because I think I can do a better job. If all it takes is fixing stuff in our local economy...that's something I can definitely do.

Unless its big corporations and big investors buying up all the land over a short space of time then the price should not increase too much and if a price increase happens it will be gradually over a long period of time. They know that prices are coming down in real estate so property taxes will follow. So they’ll continue taking property taxes. It’s an unlawful tax. They can take your property away. They’re basically the landlord requiring taxes for you to take on all the risk and work as they claim it goes towards local school etc. then tax people that use those services. Don’t take money and property from people that don’t use those services with no accountability.

  • @indianapapi

I don't believe in getting rid of property tax, but I agree with the caps. Capping it allows the public to take a hard line with the government, especially local governments that believe they can tax their way out of deficits. Here in Texas, we all know that when one form of taxes is taken away, they increase in other areas. We have no state income tax, which is AWESOME. However, we have high property and sales taxes to compensate for it. Additionally, we are seeing a rise in toll roads. The caps will also take up fewer resources on both sides because residents don't have to spend time and resources to fight it, and the local government doesn't spend resources on the fight.

Limiting what local governments can spend and tax caps are the answer. Stop ALL new initiatives. In particular, break up large school districts. Keep as much government local as possible so citizens still have control. If local institutions are funded by statewide income and sales taxes you have none whatsoever. A management pyramid will form with tens of thousands of highly paid and unnecessary bureaucrats. That is your biggest revenue drain.

There is a movement in Congress to tax unrealized gains - a wealth tax, but a federal unrealized gains tax is probably unconstititional. Property tax is theft. Or, at least, attempted theft.
Not making the taxation is theft argument. Raising property taxes is attempted theft given that not paying property taxes can cause you to lose your home or force you to sell. Either one is holding your home over your head if you can’t pay. The government knows this and continues to do it.
Plenty of other ways to raise the money needed for the services that property taxes supposedly pay for.
Increase sales tax would be one.
At the very least, you could freeze the taxes and never increase them unless the property is sold. Doesn’t matter how much value you add to the property.
That number doesn’t move until you sell.

its the purchasing power of the dollar manipulated to go down...thomas jefferson said if we let bankers manipulate our currency our great grand children will wake up homeless on the continent their forefathers founded. another thing is the stupid property tax which you will have to pay. example grandfather buys house in 1965 for $18,000 dollars, ends up paying mortgae for 30 years where he pays over 100,000$ dollars. plus taxes every year on top of all that. after mortage is paid off in 1996, still has to pay between $2000-$5000 a year for property tax for that house. years down the road the 95 year old wife thats on social security barely can make ends meet every month. it gets to a point that the property tax cant be afforded anymore and the gov takes that house. if a house can be in your family for over 60-70 years and it can be taken from you because you cant pay $2300 property taxes for that year its time for a revolution. do you know what the definition of a mortgage is? mort - means death, gage -means pledge. so your mortgage actually means death pledge.
