Thank you! I did my first games 2 years ago and had no idea what I was doing except for the momentary lesson on site, lovely and supportive sport it is. I heard someone yelling, "Get it in the pocket!". Makes sense now.
very cool. I appreciate your posting this. I've just started tossing caber at school, and nobody seems to have this much advice on technique. I can't wait to apply the stuff I've learned from your tutorial!
Excellent...good information here. I learned much the same information from another thrower and it was key to my being able to get my turns. I'm still a jump stop'er...but that was what I was taught, may have to try your way and see. Thanks for the examples and good luck as a Pro!
Hi Dan, I'm just starting out, transitioning from being a mediocre thrower in track because this seems way more fun and exciting. Caber is pretty foreign and a bit intimidating for me. Your video is extremely helpful and I appreciate you putting it on! Thanks!
@SonnyAmou I think you're on the right track, for sure! The major lifts are where I like to spend my time: bench, incline, OH press, front squat, back squat, and of course hang snatch and hang clean. Best of luck to you, Sonny!
Sometime you want to go out and throw, let me know. I'm just minutes from the park I throw at, and I've got all the equipment. I go in the evenings after work, and yes, it's a monster of a caber!
It seems like pulling straight up when it is already tilted a lot makes it spin and hit the ground faster... Why not pull up and forward, wouldn't that make it go further?
Hi Dan I saw your Facebook post on you retiring that a shame I would have loved to have met you at a games in America someday it would have been cool to throw with you yanks youse always have great throwers coming out of America
Thank you so much sir! A friend of mine has some old telephone poles near his place which aren't in use so we may cut those down for practice! Will those work?
The Sylvan Smith I would make sure they are smaller, power poles. Telephone poles are too big. You can make a caber with supplies from your local hardware store (boards, screws, glue, sandpaper). Good luck!
Thanks for this vid. I've never tried it, but I'd like to. The technique looks straightforward enough, and i stress: 'looks', but what size caber should somebody start off with to train?; Should they be shorter or is it better to just start right off with full length?

This song is, "MOVE" by Thousand Foot Krutch ... great group!
Thanks! It's a great sport I wish I was exposed to years before I graduated college!

Wow you're such a great teacher!!!
Great job Dan. Thanks for posting this, I will try the "no jump stop".
thank you for the instruction. theres not alot of good videos for us new guys. this was very helpful.
Great Video. Thanks! Lifting It Up High is everything.
Thanks man, I'm glad it was helpful. Yeah, I try and concentrate on the hips, and it seems to be more explosive in a competition when you're psyched.
I'm glad you like it! Thanks for the kind words!
That helped me alot, thank you. Hope to see you at the Glen again soon.
Tried this for the first time today on much smaller cabers...lots of fun
Thanks DL! Yeah, the jump stop works for a lot of great throwers, so I agree it works for many. Hope to see you in St. Louis. Happy Training.
>Daniel
I'm glad you liked it Glenn!
I'm glad it was beneficial to you. Any ides for a different event video?

Matt McRae Thank you!
Nice music and nice shirt!
Awesome and you have a great attitude!

Can one feel thr pressure on shoulders?
Wow! How would you recommend training for this if you are just starting out and don’t have a caber?
WOB could use some work and Stones if that is cool? I like the sport specific exercises idea too.
I wanted to ask how much does the cabor weigh for the amature events at 18 ft long
Fantastic information! And not a lot of extra blah blah ❤ lol love it
Got it. Now all I've got to do is get younger and considerably stronger.
How did the caber tos originate?
What are the dimensions? or are they always different?
Nice video man! What's the name of the song?
awesome video thanks for the help!
You give me too much credit! Thanks for the kind words!

Dudley Dooright? But I'm not Canadian! : )
How does one train for the caber toss as a beginner?
The best way is to get a caber and just start playing with it. There's no replacement for the real thing! Good luck!
Thank you so much sir! A friend of mine has some old telephone poles near his place which aren't in use so we may cut those down for practice! Will those work?

Alright thank you so much! I greatly appreciate your help!
Daniel McKim or the empire state building?! im certain the eifel tower would take 4 people XD
Does that REALLY say 165lbs?!?! Man alive! I may have to come practice with you.
LOL.
impressive!
whenever daniel mckim plays a bagpipe, it becomes a blimp!! the benefits of being barrel chested lol
I wonder if we are related?
Kind of depends, but most are 95-115 lbs. in the amateur games.
Daniel McKim I heard the average weight was about 175. Is that for more advance competition?
Good video to go back to when your caber goes a little wrong once in a while haha not that yours will.
I’m just a skinny 21 year old but at least I have a goal to try this at least once! Lol
那个男人很壮,但是我也很壮!
Music should be bagpipes....
pls no toss me :(
the cabers real name is strikeout: impossible! making it the ideal baseball bat!!
The only way to toss a caber, right!? Haha!
because its the only time american men can wear a dress (kilt) in public and not be mocked.
Why is it that all of these types of videos are done by Americans (not that I'm moaning) I just find it weird. Cool video though.
Cuz Merica'
