An engine tends to be more fuel efficient at or around full open throttle than at part throttle. At least that's my understanding as an auto mechanic. I think it also deals with how much air is flowing and the throttle plate acts like a choke at partial. The more cool air the better as well.

      G'day,
      Good luck with that.
Anthropogenic Global Warming means that EITHER Humanity will totally cease to burn Fossil Fuels within 8.5 Years..., OR we will continue to make shit get forever worse - and the Intense Extreme Weather Events will worsen to the point where NO level of EcoGnomic Activity is possible.
Either way, if Jimmy's boys are still alive in 10 years, they might be telling a lot of stories about,
"When their Father used to take them flying...(!)".
But they will NOT be going flying unless they have a Hang Glider and a Hill they can walk it up, before jumping off to glide back down.
      Change IS afoot.
      Such is life...
      Stay safe.
      ;-p
      Ciao !

Usually, it goes the opposite way: if parents _make_ kid dance or climb mountains - he will eventually come to hating those activities by his puberty age and go as far from those as possible. On the other hand, being close to someone as sneaky and entrepreneurial as Jimmy may lay useful skills that his son would utilize in completely different area.

Hey Jimmy, love your videos. Awesome you are able to do this with your Son. My wife is still too nervous to take the family. 😉Two way radio communication is all that is required to enter class C airspace. • @oldcoot40

I think making Cameron a speed king is interesting. Your idea of taping the gaps was done in unlimited racing in the 1940s and 1950s. Many years ago I read the autobiography of Tony LeVier who was a test pilot (chief pilot I think) for Lockheed during that period. He went into detail about taping seals and joints.
I see that you’re planning engine work. Actually I think your limiting factor is the prop. Unless it’s pitched for max rpm at top speed you’re losing efficiency. You need either a fixed pitch tuned that way or you need some type of variable pitch or constant speed prop. You may also want to look at engine cooling drag.
You may want to contact the participants of the Reno Air Races. Their “sport plane” builders have already solved the issues that you’re having.
I’ve been watching your vids since your first Cherokee 6 vids. I look forward to them. Best of luck to you.

    Jimmy, I love your show please keep it up.. Just a small thing that may or may not be the same in the US but regarding your tongue in cheek comment about Isopropyl alcohol. For cleaning I buy 99% IPA not the lower percentages. Anything lower than 99% is also called rubbing alcohol and they add slippy things to it to make it easier to rub on, things like talcum powder. If you have tape pealing off places you've cleaned with rubbing alcohol it might be the talc ;

This video says it was released 2 months ago, but it has to be like three years old. I saw one of your recent videos, and Silus is 15, according to you in that video. And he looks a lot younger in this one.
What a lucky boy he is! To think he has you for a dad, and he gets included in your flying.
I wonder if your lower fuel burn is caused by leaning it out a bit?
Is it Lancair that makes the turboprop now that's supposed to be the Ferrari of the air?

I’ll race with ya jimmy, I’m down here in Fort Myers FL right now with my Beechcraft King Air 350i, it only has two 1050hp Pratt and Whitley PT6-60A Turbo Prop engines, its not very fast really, it will only go 310 nmph, but it has to be 30,000’MSL to 35,000’MSL the SAC (Service air ceiling) and it only has a fuel range of about 1800 nautical miles CC. At your service air ceiling it will probably be a pretty good match for ya, at that AD (Air Density) 200-240nmph depending on my weigh, configuration, and DA (Density Altitude) and the temperatures in the area also has a say in my speed allowance in my KA, or any heavy aircraft for that matter. Lol. But no kidding man, I’m in, you are welcome to ride along on a day charter in the right seat, and see how you like flying the KA 350i, I’m also a check captain on the Bombardier Global 7500 for a friend who resides down in Miami, if your interested shoot me a text at (6O6)612-9422

The only way to get it out... is a few minutes of inverted flight.

I saw you guys threw those raspberry fig bars from Target in the plane for the trip! I have a 17 month old daughter and she absolutely LOVES those things, the blueberry as well!! Great video boys!

Jimmy you should design a cap that covers that hole when you're putting the cowl back on. I would probably attach a ribbon to it and tie it to something in the cockpit so you don't forget that it's installed. Should be pretty simple. I'd be happy to draw one and print it. Just get me the dimensions and some detailed pictures.

Jimmy it gets a little dicey there clearing the obstacle before 10R there at KHWO isn't it...then the wind loves to play with you before touch down. You'd think that 3255ft would be plenty of runway, but it comes fast. Good to see you at the home airport. I wish I could have been there to shake your hand and touch Cameron myself. Great video sir, and keep them coming.

What about a 2 blade constant speed prop? That I think would be your biggest gain in performance?

How about a really thorough machine polish of the whole plane? I know it's not as simple as on autos (you have to be much more careful about paint thickness ), but even if it doesn't gain a huge amount of speed you'll have an even prettier plane.

I could be wrong, but changing to Dzus fasteners would be high on my Priority List on any airplane cowling.

Awesome video! Great flying! Couldn't you have gone Zero G and moved that bolt to a more accessible location? 😆 Amazing aircraft! Maybe not push your Speed Tape 'in to' the gap allowing it to bridge both surfaces separately? I just have a thought that you're not eliminating the gap but filling the gap with a more air-streamed surface in your gap instead ... but a gap nonetheless. IF it were cloth it would bridge the two surfaces tautly (understanding you have some moving surfaces). Thank you! You, too, Silas! 👍
