As always, a bounty of glittering wisdom for the surf magpies out there. Had me reaching for the notebook once again...
I think much of this info hits hardest for those of us who have accrued decades of mistakes, so for you beginners take serious note and save yourself years of flopping round like a frankfurter!
Super grateful for the free info, can't wait to enroll once im able.
    Froth on everybody

I've been surfing a long time. Clayton is a great coach. If you can ingrain good technique early it can prevent a lot of heartache and frustration later. This will fast track your surfing, unfortunately, I had to take the long way.

Please do a coach's eye of Dane Reynolds. How does he throw the tail out so easily?

Amazing analysis guys. Very thoughtful and meaningful for us willing to progress. One quick question based on your comment on min 7:52 (funnel analogy): it happens to me that when I surfskate on my carver I can flow with ease, do carving turns and cutbacks on flat sections, go to the bowl and draw up and down lines... I feel comfortable with this. However, when I try to transfer it to surf, in almost all my videos my technique drops and looks sooo much stiffer than on the carver. My local coach keeps saying its a matter of time, but my impression is that, as the water adds unstability to the action, all this vibrations "overwhelm the funnel" which, as a result, makes me compensate by stiffening myself in an attempt to add stability to the body+surfboard block. I feel that this ruins what i have build on the surfskate... What cues would you give to a surf learner to overcome these type of situations? Thanks a lot 🙏🏾

Hello Damian, The idea of the land training is to help your body to get used to the new movement patterns that you later will be using in the surf. In that sense your local coach is right. It is a matter of practicing the movements, getting you body used to this movements until they become automatic. Look at driving for example. When you are learning how to drive you have to think about gears, pedals, indicators speed limits, etc. The fact that you are not used to this amount of information happening this fast, add tension and the 'stiffening' that you mentioned in your comment. The more you get familiar with the stimulus in the surf the less tension you will have. Same when driving. Keep in mind that land based training will accelerate this process.

Coffee cup for sure and also the cardboard surfer, arms up in front and light on the feet in a foreword stance, I did think that all the movement was key and style before watching this. I took right much from this, slight correct movement is key. “Calming “ - Tommy
