This sketch is a parody of a 1960s episode of Coronation Street a long running soap opera set in Manchester. Ken the son in Coronation Street went to University and his dad didn't like it. They switched it round in this parody 😂😂.
Barnsley is a very, erm, unique Yorkshire town. They still speak an accent so broad even us who live not far away struggle to understand. Flipping love monty python, their take on the world and making people think about some difficult stuff through comedy... Genius.
Hey Connor, have you done the "woody words" MMPFC sketch yet? Even the extras had difficulty keeping a straight face. Its incredibly funny with a stupendous Michael Payne ending 5 star. Seen it many times and still snort hysterically with my daughter, who has watched since about aged 11 and 20 years later still does.
The turnaround of the classic working class parents upset that their child wants to work in the arts and wants to move to the Big City. I think they should have given the father's voice a more posh.

Monty Python was indeed ahead of its time but they took some inspiration from others at the time including Spike Milligan.
Connor utterly Baffled by the juxtaposition of this sketch🤔
Hampstead a very expensive well to do area of London and Barnsley at that time a northern mining town.
Barnsley was a pit town
Laughter is the best tonic...
