    Thanks guys. Stan's tattoos are all real. Great reaction. Awesome insights and comments about Stan's performance and his look. His ethnicity is Maori from New Zealand. The nature scenes are real, they are indeed volcanic plateaus and natural bush, as well as waterfalls, coastal sunrises... all located in his general district where his family lives in Bay of Plenty New Zealand. Great comments.

    Kaitiakitanga. Is a Māori concept meaning guardianship. That we don’t own nature, but are guardians of it. We keep it in trust for future generations. I wish this simple, but powerful concept was universal. Because, we’re trashing this planet and it’s the only habitable home we have. A home that’s hospitable environment teeters on a knife edge

    His documentary on his cancer journey, removal of his stomach etc, is here on TH-cam. Well worth a watch. Also Amazing Grace, cover of Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House and his cover of Ultralight Beam by Kanye are insane. He's a very proud man of Maori descent from here in Aotearoa New Zealand. He is absolutely amazing and so humble too.

    I'm from Rotorua New Zealand, (Geyser City)...Tamoko are done as was in the old days, its still a ritual, and i must admit, Stan's Tamoko is truly beautiful, his tone has changed a lot since his Idol days in Australia, with the journey he has undertaken his tone has depths, soul, and carries that Mana feeling in his lyrics... bringing all the elements together. Papatūānuku (Earth) Rangi (Sky) Moana (Sea) Tane Mahutu (forest).. hope everyone likes this song hes definitely has come a long way.

    New sub here also. I'm from New Zealand and I love how our culture music is being reacted to from all over the world. We're also trying to keep our culture and language alive in our own country. Unfortunately we have majority of New Zealand Europeans trying to get rid of it. Not only that is happening at the moment. It has only just starting a movement towards this current Government. We've just got over 1 million Māori here in (Aotearoa) New Zealand. We just want to be included in all decision making that includes us all here equally. I am a Pakeha who has many people in my family who identify as Maori my elder sister speaks Te Reo. Most of my family are either fluent or have a good understanding. The big problem is that people are being told these lies and it is becoming devising and that will cause a problem. It suits those more privileged Maori to ferment this rubbish. @@MyCatalog23Origin is a movie that follows the life of Isabel Wilkerson around the time she wrote the book Caste: The origin of our discontent. She delves into what makes us detach emotionally from other groups of people who are different whether it be race, colour, religion, social or economic background and allow it to develop into persecution or hatred. I believe this is one of the most important movies of our time. I am a massive Stan Walker fan and it is through this sing I discovered the movie. New Sub. I am a stan of stan LOL Loved your guy's reaction. Stan mentioned in an interview how he grew up watching 'The Avatar' and loved the character Ang. The tattoo is influenced from it but has a more Traditional and deeper meaning. Stan is very creative and is very intentional with every song and video he makes (Lyrics, Traditional attire, scenes etc). It is made with pure love and respect for our culture, but it is also music that empowers and inspires all people Internationally. Look forward to more reactions from my fave Nz Artist, much love from Nz. Ava discovered Stan through his Kanye West cover 'Ultralight Beam' Powerful vocals, pls check it out.

    Second time you've impressed so I'd better sub. Done. I haven't seen the film or read the book yet but I believe it's about the nature of society's hierarchies, segregation and caste. Stan is amazing, so far everything I've seen of his blows me over. Thanks, guys, well done. Imagine, speak out, forgive and act. 🌍🌎🌏💖

      Hey, Mark, for someone who hasn't seen the movie, or read the book, you have a perfect grasp of the subject. ! I'm a little mystified, however, what impressed you about the drivel dished up in this reaction.

    • @marklane58
      @marklane58 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@alpeach9480 HI, Alpeach. I watched several interviews with Ava Du Vernay and the making of the film as well as interviews with Stan Walker about how they got connected and what they saw as common themes to cover. Also I read reviews of Caste, Isabel Wilkerson's book, and ordered a copy. I wasn't expecting a highly intellectual review as those guys started from scratch. But I thought they ended up on the right track and I was encouraging the thought they were putting into it. Maybe they'll look into it more. And I'm pretty drivel-proof as I've watched a lot of reactions. I can't wait for the book to arrive and then to watch the film. My last sentence was inspired by the words of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, the lyrics of 'You're The Voice', the post Great War speech attributed to Mustafa Ataturk, and the motivational inspiration of The Fairy Voice Mother aka Lolli Wren. It also reflects a long held interest in the Kabbalah and the Mahabharata. I hope I've demystified my line of thinking somewhat and I do appreciate your response.

    Stan is a really beautiful human being who’s overcome a lot including a recent bout of cancer. He lost his stomach due to that. He’s got an incredible voice & is a true artist in how he expresses the lyrics. He’s a proud Māori & yes, those tattoos reflect his culture & are real. Someone kindly put a translation of the Māori part of the song. Like Native American peoples, Māoris consider humans to be stewards of the earth/the Earth is our mother & we pass our origins down to subsequent generations. We’re not doing a great job of protecting the legacy of our beautiful environment. We need to do much better by our children.

    To all Polynesians, Maori included of which Stan proudly represents, our history, ancestors, and Origin, dictates the people and person we become today. This song speaks to all who listens to seek out your origin, and to know your ancestors and stand proud of who they are, and the journey they struggled through, to bring you into being. We believe that your future is lost, and your direction is aimless, without the strong foundation your ancestors left to you.
    So seek your heritage, know your past, and stand proud fully knowing the sacrifices that brought you to today, and the great person you have become.
    KNOW YOUR ORIGIN!!!..and give thanks to those of your family gone on before you…
    Awes9me video guys…welcome to the rabbit hole that is the unique…. Stan Walker

    He actually watched the movie and this song is the result of the movie, he is a full Maori born in Australia but now living in New Zealand with his family and yes the tattoos are real it represents his Whanau his iwi (Family and tribe) he is acknowledging his ancestors. The places you see are actually his home land around his home.

    Lots of great info in the comments. Just to add, parts of NZ are covered in rain forest. No jungle in NZ; it is a bit far south for that (too cold!).
    The Eastern and Central parts of both islands are now more open country than when the early Polynesian settlers (Maori) cut and burnt all the trees which originally grew there. They did so to hunt one of the largest/heaviest birds ever to have lived, the (flightless) Moa bird, which became extinct within 100-150 years of Maori arrival (around 1300 {Medieval times in Europe}). Something like 6 or 7 million hectares had been cleared of bush and forests prior to Europeans arriving in NZ. (early 1800's). The Haast's Eagle (the world's largest ever eagle) also went extinct, since Moa were its main source of food. The rats they brought with them may have also contributed to that loss.
    Both clearing and extinctions continued after Europeans arrived and are still going on to this day.
